2. Stitch a red 3-7/8" half-square
triangle to each side of the 4-3/4"
feather squares as shown:
3. Stitch a dark brown 4-1/4"
quarter-square triangle to two
adjoining sides of each of the
2-5/8" leaves on black

4. Sew half the light green 4-1/4"
quarter-square triangles to 4-1/4"
leaves on cream quarter-square triangles.
Sew the other half together as shown.
5. Add one of each light green/leaves on cream
triangle units to each of
the dark brown/leaves on
black units.
6. Lay out one feather/red unit, four units from
Step #5, and four 3-1/2" cream squares as shown.
Stitch units into rows. Sew rows together. Make a
total of ten pieced blocks.
7. Lay out the blocks in five horizontal rows of
four blocks each as shown in quilt layout. Add
1-3/4" x 12-1/2" brown sashing and 1-3/4" brown
cornerstones between and around the blocks. Sew
pieces into rows, then sew rows together.
Borders & Finishing:
1. Make two borders each with two 2-1/2" x 44"
cream strips together end-to-end. Add borders to
right and left sides. Press and trim excess from
these and all successive border additions. Cut one
2-1/2" x 44" cream strip into two equal lengths.
Sew each half-length strip end-to-end with a full-
length strip. Add these borders to top and bottom.
2. Add 1-3/4" red border in the same manner as
the first border.
3. Add the forest scenic 6-1/2" x length of fabric
strips to right and left sides of quilt. Make two
borders each with two forest scenic 6-1/2" x width
of fabric strips stitched together end-to-end. Add
these to the top and bottom of quilt.
4. Cut backing into two equal lengths. Sew the two
lengths together along selvage edges. Layer the
backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt or tie asdesired.
5. Prepare binding from eight 2-1/2" x 44" dark
brown strips. Sew strips together into one long
binding strip. Press strip in half lengthwise.
6. Carefully trim backing and batting even with
quilt top.
7. Leaving an 8" tail of binding, sew binding to
top of quilt through all layers matching all raw
edges. Miter corners. Stop approximately 12" fromwhere you started. Lay both loose ends of binding
flat along quilt edge. Where these two loose ends
meet, fold them back on themselves and press to
form a crease. Using this crease as your stitching
line, sew the two open ends of the binding together
right sides together. Trim seam to 1/4" and press
open. Finish sewing binding to quilt. Turn binding
to back of quilt and blind stitch in place.
