Environment day was cele-brated with great grandeur at ACE, across all sections of the school, with the noble intention of “PROTECTING THE ENVI-RONMENT”. Many activities as-sociated with environment pro-tection were organized. A well organized assembly by grade 10 A on this year’s theme topic “GO WILD FOR LIFE” aided the students to be aware about the wildlife protec-tion and to learn more about the ways they can help , to en-sure the future planet safe for the endangered animals. Prin-cipal Mr. Harikumar addressed the assembly and detailed the importance of environment pro-tection. A special oath was taken by

everyone promising to protect our environment. Later a rally organized by the science club students to spread awareness on environment safety, followed by a Poster making competition for grades 5 and above added colour to the day. The enthusi-astic participation by the stu-dents showcased their creative streak & commitment towards the cause. Our art teacher helped the junior students to make paper bags, which stressed on the theme “GO GREEN”, FOR A BETTER PLANET” She also explained the importance of reducing the use of plastics. FOR BEING BETTER BOOKWORMS

The reading of books provides us with such pleasure as we do not get from any other activity. Great is the blessing of books. The school organized the Book-Week from 20th to 24th June 2016. Students of Grade 1-10 were given various activities to create interest in their reading skills. The event was graced and inaugurated by Mr. Ragunath Kolathur, a renowned author, poet and a teacher by profes-sion. He shared his inspiring ex-periences with the students and held lively discussions with them by reciting poems and narrating stories. A Special assembly was conducted by the students of grade 4th A wherein the primary wing students were apprised of the fact that every kind of book is important. Students of grade 5-10 visited the book exhibition arranged in the school library. A quiz program on books and au-thors was conducted and a spe-

cial presentation commemorat-ing P.N Panikkar was organized by a few students of grade 7A.With full zeal and interest stu-dents were engaged in reading books that helped them to gain knowledge, wisdom and broad-en their mental horizons. Student read their favour-ite books to The Principal Mr. Harikumar, Vice Principal Ms. Bindu and the Head teacher Ms. Dhanya Arun. Reading be-fore them gave the students an opportunity to enhance their confidence level and gave them encouragement to keep going with the good habit of reading books. With more reading, come bet-ter reading skills. So reading is a fun and great way to leave stresses of our life. So with these events, the Book-Week was concluded that helped the students to germinate seeds of wisdom.

HEARTY RECEPTION TO FRESHERS

These days, most children have little or no knowledge about where their food comes from. Visiting farms is one of the most tangible ways to reconnect children to agriculture and ani-mals. A farm visit that explores how food is grown and how ani-mals are raised is an ideal way for the children to understand and connect with this reality. With a view to generate prac-tical knowledge, students of grade 3 & 4 were taken to the Anakkayam agricultural re-search station and grade 2 stu-dents to an animal farm. Here, children got an experience to see what they learned from their textbooks.

The visit to Anakkayam paved the way for students to relate the topics and information they learn in the classroom to an out-side real world setting. During a visit to the research station students worked together to strengthen their understanding of several species of plants, ag-ricultural procedures and some equipments connected to na-ture. Grade 2 students’ visit to the animal farm helped them to sort animals into categories based on their features. The little ones were very excited to watch the animals, fishes and birds in the farm.

Have you ever been in a bad mood and then some-one has come along with a huge smile? Perhaps a baby that looked up at you and smiled. If this has ever happened to you then you do know how great you feel right. When the person you are talking to or the people that surround you are smiling, you won’t be able to help but smile. A smile has special powers you calm your fear, insecurity, hurt and anxiety not only in yourself but also to others who are experi-encing the same. The next time you see someone sad, scared, nervous, smile with them and that will make them feel happy

and confident. A smile is contagious, it spreads in minutes, gives to the world and the world will smile back to you. You will brighten the days of those around you and make a difference in their lives….. Sim-ply by smiling.A legendry singer in his song conveys to the world:The power of a gun can killThe power of fire can burnThe power of anger can raise inside Until it fears you apart. But the power of smile especial-ly yoursCan heal a frozen heart. So spread a smile that goes a mile…

People usually catch the fish that are near the surface of a river, lake etc. But the best fish swims near the bottom. It is a dif-ficult task to catch them. Pleasures of thy life has grown beyond dreams, into a mid-night fate of evilness, the thread between all my mind and thy has fallen into dark pit of des-tiny. Lives in the long lost world chanting the greatness of the mightiest but the one never sees me through my dreams. The words spoken are through the reflection of them, but the words which were unspoken are the jewels of emotions hurling and drawing pain on me.Smokey shadows of the one who hate were behind to unleash the victory of slaying me. Whoever glares at me, with their red eyes burning, oh they are the one. The mightiest, my words are to you; you are the magical mist for my eyes and for my mind,

During this summer vaca-tion I visited Srilanka with my family from 28.05.2016 to 03.06.2016.The journey started on 28.05.2016 from Kochi to Colombo by Srilankan Airways. From Colombo we travelled to Anuradhapura and stayed there with our relatives.

SRILANKAN SAFARI

On 29.05.2016, we started our trip to Jaffna which is the northern port city of Srilanka. On the way to Jaffna we saw the destructions done by LTTE on both sides of the road dur-ing the civil war in Srilanka. Jaffna was the main centre of LTTE headed by ‘Velupillai Pra-bhakaran”. We saw the very big water tank destroyed by LTTE in January 2009 at Kilinochi. LTTE was completely defeated on 19th of May 2009 by the then president Mahindra Rajapakse. On the way to Jaffna we visited Vavuniya, Keerimalai beach, Mullaithiv, MaruthanarMadam, Hanuman Kovil, Thalasevana resort and beach. On 30.05.2016 we started our journey to Sigiriya. Sigiriya is very big rock situated on a mountain top. We can see the ruined parts of a kingdom on the top of the rock. We climbed the rock. It says that 1500 years ago an Indian king named “Kashay-apa” killed his father and es-caped to Srilanka. He feared that his brother will come to take revenge on him. So he had hid-den in the palace made over the rock. In the afternoon we went for “Jungle safari” (Elephant sa-

fari). This is a trip through jungle in an open jeep to see the ele-phants roaming in the jungle. On 31.05.2016 we visited “Ash-tamasthana” - the holy places of Buddhists. These are situated within 10 kilometres of Anurad-hapura. We visited the following places.1. Jayasreemaha Bodhi – There is a huge banyan tree which is 2650 years old brought from India.2. Ruvanmali Sala3. Jayardhanapura4. Twin ponds5. Abhayagiristupa which was built in 1st B.C6. Moon stone residential com-plex. It is a ruined residence of Budhists built in 7 to 8 century A.D7. Guard stone8. Thuparamaya9. Mirisavetya Rajamaha Vihara10. Isnunuya

On 01.06.2016 we went to Trincomalee which is the port city of Srilanka. On the way we saw Mihinthala Mountain, Ka-hatagaliya, Horowpathana and Kennya holy hot water wells. Kennya holy hot water wells are seven wells with hot water with different temperatures. There is a myth that King Ravana made these wells when his father fell sick. His father took bath in these wells and was cured. Then we saw Trincomalee port city, Koneswora temple, Pigeon Island National Park. In Pigeon Island we did “Snorkelling” in the sea. On 02.06.2016 we returned to Colombo. There we saw Presi-dential house, Town hall, Indian Embassy, World trade centre, Majestic city mall etc. We stayed there at night. On 03.06.2016 we bid farewell to Srilanka and started to Kochi by Srilankan airlines.Ienjoyed the trip very much. Some important information about Srilanka1. Language- Sinhalees, Tamil2. You all know that we are living in this beautiful earth. But we are making it dirty and destroying the earth. So to make the earth more beautiful we should plant more trees and always put the waste on the dustbin. We should plant more trees so that we get fresh air. We should also save water and plants. We should try to save our whole environment. So I am ready to save our earth. Are you all ready to save the earth?
