This section shows you how to make a basic TV connectionusing a cable TV or antenna signal. If you have cable TV service, youll simply connect the coaxialcable lead-in from the cable TV company to your TV. If you intendto connect a VHF/UHF antenna, you may need a 300- to 75-ohmadapter, which is not supplied with your TV.

NOTE: You should be able to buy optional accessories such as aVHF/UHF antenna or a 300- to 75-ohm adapter at most storesthat sell electronics. Or you can call our Customer Care Centerat 1-800-531-0039.

1 Connect the Cable TV or antenna signal to theANTENNA IN 75jack on the rear of the TV.NOTE: If you are using an antenna with a round coaxialcable (75), then you are ready to connect to the back ofthe TV. If your antenna has a flat, twin-lead wire (300),you must first attach the antenna wires on a 300- to 75-ohm adapter. Then push the round end of the adapter onto

    the ANTENNA IN 75

jack on the rear of the TV.

2 Insert the TVs power plug into the wall power outlet.

    BEST VIEW ING

The major benefit of this projection television is its large view-ing screen. To see this large screen at its best, test variouslocations in the room to find the optimal spot for viewing.

NOTE: Be sure to allow a free flow of air to and from the per-forated back cover of the set.

To avoid cabinet warping, cabinet color changes, and increased chance of set failure, do not placethe TV where temperatures can become excessivelyhotfor example, in direct sunlight or near aheating appliance.

Magnetic fields, such as those of external speak-ers, may cause the picture to distort if the speak-ers are placed too close to the television. Movethe magnetic field source away from the TV untilthere is no picture distortion.

    CABLES AND CONNECTORS

If you are new to making TV hookups, you may want to readthis section. (The cables and connectors discussed are not sup-plied with your set. You can buy them at most stores that sellaudio or video products. Or call our Customer Care Center at1-800-531-0039.)

This publication provides you with examples of basic connections.See pages 615 in the Directions for Use manual for more infor-mation and connection examples.

A 75-ohm coaxial cable connects signalsfrom an antenna or a cable TV companyto the antenna jack on the back of the TV.Coaxial cables use F connectors.

A two-way signal splitter enables you totake a single antenna or cable TV signaland supply it to two different inputs.

A 300- to 75-ohm twin-leadadapter accepts the antennacables (called twin-lead wires)from an antenna, allowing youto connect the antenna signal tothe TV.

    Video and audio cables

with standard RCA(phono) connectors con-nect the video and audiojacks of accessorydevices such as VCRsand DVD players to thejacks on the TV.

To simplify making connections, the connectorsare usually color coded. The jacks on your TV arelikewise color coded to match the colors of theconnectors. The coding is as follows: yellow for

video (composite) and red and white for the rightand left audio channels, respectively. Use an audiocable with a white connector when making mono,or nonstereo, connections. The connectors ofvideo cables used to connect component video orRGB (high-resolution) jacks are often color codedred, green, and blue. Component video connec-tions provide you with the highest possible color

    and picture resolution.

An S-Video cable connectsdevices such as DVD players,VCRs, or camcorders to yourTV. S-Video provides better picture performancethan regular (composite) video connections. S-Video cables can be used only with S-Video-com-patible accessory devices.

    MAKING PIP CONNECTIONS

Picture-In-Picture (PIP) is the showing of two pictures on theTV screen at the same timeone main screen picture andone small picture, or PIP. The picture for the PIP window can

come from an antenna or cable TV signal, or from AV1, AV2, or

AV3.NOTE: CVI cannot be displayed in the PIP window, and

AV 4 does not function with PIP.

The following connections explained below will allow you to use

a VCR as a second tuner specifically for PIP. In other words,

you can use the VCR to select channels for viewing in the PIP

window. This is just one example of how you can use PIP. Note,

too, that you can swap the main and PIP pictures on screen. See

page 7 in this publication for information on viewing PIP pic-

tures and using the PIP buttons.

To make the connections shown in this example, you will need:

    a two-way signal splitter

    two coaxial cables (75)

one cable for a video connection (standard RCA connector)

two cables for audio connections (standard RCA connectors).

NOTE: The two-way signal splitter and cables are not supplied withyour TV. You should be able to buy them at most stores that sell elec-tronics. Or you can call our Customer Care Centerat 1-800-531-0039.

    1

Connect an antenna or cable TV signal to a two-waysignal splitter.

2Use coaxial cables to connect from the two-way signalsplitter to the ANTENNA IN 75jack on the rear of theTV and to the ANTENNAIN jack on the rear of the VCR.

3 Connect the VIDEO OUT jack on the VCR to theINPUT-AV1 VIDEO jack on the rear of the TV.4 Connect the AUDIO OUT jacks, L(eft)/R(ight), on therear of the VCR to the INPUT-AV 1 AUDIO jacks,

L(eft)/R(ight,) on the rea r of the TV.
