The SBA supported the program by supplying trees that were planted across from Lipka Hall. Together with students and our industry partner UPS; we planted four flowering cherry trees. These tree will provide a beautiful welcome to people entering our campus. In addition the students and faculty were able to learn more about electric cars and how they contribute to sustainability. The panel discussions were enriching and spirited thanks to our Eagles partner Norman Vossschulte. Norman is in charge of the Fan Experience with the Eagles and also directs the sustainability efforts at the stadium. The Eagles, while not winning any titles would win for their sustainability actions. Deana Cain from UPS explained how electric box trucks, drones and artificial intelligence are all the next wave of innovation that will help save the environment. Each of the panel discussions and exhibits focused on "what we can do" to help advance sustainablilty in our everyday life, from reducing costs and conserving resources to improving learning and civic engagement outcomes.

On Tuesday, April 18th from 12-2 pm at Lathem Hall, students from the SBA along with our community

partners from the Chester Rotary Club, participated in a Stop Hunger Now: Meal Packaging Event. This event

helped increase awareness of hunger challenges faced by so many outside of the United States.

Along with the Chester Rotary Club, SBA student volunteers, Widener’s College Panhellenic Council,

Interfraternity Council, and Intercultural Greek Council over 10,000 meals were packaged and prepared for

shipping.

Each packaged meal contained rice, dried vegetables, soy and a vitamin pack. Once a

meal was assembled, it was sealed and prepared for shipping. These meals can be

customized at their destinations to suit local tastes and culture.

Stop Hunger Now is an international hunger relief agency that has been fulfilling its

commitment to end hunger for more than 15 years. Since 1998, the organization has

coordinated the distribution of food and other lifesaving aid to children and families in

countries all over the world.

Stop Hunger Now Event

On April 8th five students, James Feeley, Michael Garofolo, Julian

Jastrzebski, Matthew Stranix, and Daniel Whitney, held a Salute to Service

collection at the Widener Varsity Baseball game against Alvernia.

Fans were asked to donate: travel size tooth brushes, tooth paste, hand and

foot warmers, deodorant, and moist towelettes. Salute to Service was started

by USAA and the NFL to elevate military appreciation on and off the field.

Authentic “Salute to Service” wristbands were given out to each donor.

The students worked with the Phillies to host a raffle for four Phillies tickets

and a picture with the World Series trophy.

With help from Assistant Dean Hoopes and the partnership of a School of

Business alliance, Tony Heath at UPS, students were able to ship the boxes

paid for by UPS.

Together with the SBA and UPS, the students agreed to develop a fall

program to expand on their project.

The students agreed they learned valuable lessons from the

International marketing class project by displaying the following

competencies:

Marketing proficiency

Learning about a foreign country

Doing something good for humanity

Writing a memo of understanding with the client

Project management skills

Pi Sigma Epsilon (ΠΣΕ) is a professional fraternity for students and

industry professionals in Marketing and Sales Management,

Professor Mary Shoemaker has done an exceptional job growing

the local chapter and helping students find job opportunities. At her

last meeting on April 12th she invited 40 companies to participate.

The networking event is in a “Speed Dating” format so students

rotate from table to table and interact with different company

representatives.

The networking paid off for at least two of our students. Daniel

Whitney received an offer from Power Home Remodeling company

in Chester, PA. Daniel said: “I have been involved in the Oskin

Leadership Institute which allowed me to develop my own personal

leadership skills. I look forward to practicing my leadership skills. I

will be interning at Power Home Remodeling, where I hope to get

great experience in the marketing and sales world”.

Julian Jastrzebski had a similar experience at the PSE event. He

talked to several companies and was hired by Enterprise for an

internship this summer.

Both students are looking forward to learning about the sales and

marketing world.

At the School of Business Administration, we prepare students for successful careers and leadership positions

in business. Seniors presented their case study findings to Widener University faculty and staff on April 28th.

During their senior year, our students engage in semester long projects that partner groups of students with

local companies to tackle real-world business problems. To produce results, students must call upon critical

thinking, problem solving, collaboration and communication skills. In effect, they learn by doing. Management

451 helps students develop skills that employers need and they acquire competencies that give them an edge

over other applicants through a variety of hands-on learning
