1 Introduction

The Diversity Optimizer 10.6 Installation Manual describes how to install and to use Diversity Optimizer.

Overview

The Diversity Optimizer software controls and operates measurement devices from a standalone computer. You can connect a device to a USB port or a data card slot on the computer.

Figure 1-1 Diversity Optimizer system

Note: For information on Diversity measurement devices, see the Diversity Hardware User Manual.

Diversity Optimizer automatically installs the following software on your computer:

TestManager: Creates and manages tests for voice, data, and video quality measurements. Test Manger runs as a Windows service that you can access through a web browser on the same machine at: http://localhost:8080. TestManager requires a Microsoft SQL database to store information about the test units, test plans, and test results. For more information, see Manual - NetQual - TestManager.pdf.

NQComm: Provides communication between TestManager, PCMs, measurement devices, and SQL databases. For more information, see Manual – NetQual - NQComm.pdf.

NQView: Displays real-time measurement values from the measurement devices on the controlling PC. NQView can also replay a measurement in real-time from the measurement files. For more information, see Manual – NetQual - NQView.pdf.

References: Contains file samples for measurement tests

Diversity PCM: Enables a PCM to operate the measurement devices. A Diversity PCM installation contains Maintenance Center which you can use to access Measurement Control, Measurement Engine, and Device Manager.

QuickTime: Provides QuickTime support

RealPlayer: Provides RealPlayer support

3 Using Diversity Optimizer

Before you can use Diversity Optimizer, you need to perform the following tasks to prepare your measurement device:

Install the Windows drivers for your device

Connect the device to your computer and configure the drivers

Configure the device in NQView

Create a task for the device in NQView

Measurement Devices

You can use the following measurement devices with Optimizer:

Mobile phone

Datacard

Dialup device

GPS Bluetooth device

Scanner

Adding a Device in NQView

NQView provides you with two options to add a measure device, namely a hardware detection option and a manual option. The hardware detection option automatically detects the Windows port settings for the device. If you manually add a device, you need to determine these settings through the Windows Control Panel. For more information, consult the Windows help system.

Important: You can only add a dialup device manually. You can only add a scanner with the hardware detection option.

To add a device in NQView

a In the C:\Program Files\SwissQual\Diversity\Drivers\<name of device>\Installer folder, double-click the installer, and then follow the instructions.

Note: These installers are also on the installation CD for Diversity Optimizer.

b Connect the device to your computer and wait for Windows to configure the driver.

To connect a USB device, connect the cable to a USB port on your computer.

To connect a datacard, insert the card in the PCMCIA slot of the computer.

To connect a scanner, connect the cable to a USB port, and then turn on the scanner.

Important: After you connect a dialup device, you need to manually configure the dialup settings for the device in the Phone and Modem Options in the Windows Control Panel. For a description on how to

configure these settings, consult the Windows help system.

2. Double-click the NQView icon on the Windows desktop.

NQView Walk Mode

By default a GPS receiver provides the map coordinates during a measurement. However, if you want to manually input these coordinates, for example, when you are indoors, you can change the Path Mode of NQView to Walk.

In this mode, NQView saves the Walk points that you manually add to the map as latitude and longitude coordinates in the measurement file.

To use the Walk mode

1. Open your map monitor.

On the Navigation panel in NQView, click Monitors, and then click your map.

2. On the Path Mode menu, click Walk.

3. Add a map coordinate.

During a measurement, click Walk point on the Tools menu, and then click the map where you want to add the point.

4. At the end of the measurement, click Drive on the Path Mode menu.
