University of Milano-Bicocca by carFrom the Torino-Venezia motorway, take the "Milano-Viale Zara" exit and head towards the city centre. Pass the sign indicating the Town border (Comune di Milano) roughly where you can see the "StarTourist" Hotel on your left. Take Viale Sarca (first street parallel, on your left, to the one you are on). After about 1 km along Viale Sarca you will reach the university campus. There are adequate parking facilities available for students and visitors.

TaxisTaxis in Milan, as everywhere in Italy, are expensive and easier to get from a taxi rank (in Stazione Centrale, Cadorna Northern train station, Corso Buenas Aires, Piazza del Duomo etc) than to hail on a street. The meter begins when the taxi leaves to pick you up. Several taxi companies serve Milan:

Autoradiotaxi +39028585; Yellowtaxi Multiservice +39026969; Taxi Blu+39.02.4040; +39028383; +39026767; Radio Taxi Freccia +39024000; eTaxi +39025353; Taxi Malpensa 800911333

Taxis for travellers with mobility/adaptive equipment can be booked via Radiotaxi +39 02 4040.

What to do when you have arrived? We recommend going first to your accommodation, leaving your luggage and only then coming to the venue at a time when the reception desk is open (opens at 12:00 on Wednesday July 20th and at 08:30 on all other conference days).

Once you've reached UniMIB and located U6 where the Reception desk is, the student volunteers will check if you have registered and paid your conference fees, and if all is in order, they will hand you your book and badge. You can then go on to enjoy the conference. If the reception desk finds any financial discrepancies in your record (membership or conference payment), you will get to stand in yet another stifling queue, at the NomadIT office in U6-10 (and then once again at the Reception desk once your payment's been sorted...). Please remember that you can only pay in cash (euros)!

There are two panel sessions on the opening day, followed by the Keynote and opening inAula Magna (U6). As Aula Magna houses ~900 people, the remainder of the crowd will be able to participate from 2 streaming locations U6-4 (Aula Martini) & U4-8 (Aula Sironi).

Reception desk and NomadIT office opening timesThe Reception desk, staffed by volunteers in white EASA2016 T-shirts, will be located in the ground floor foyer of Edificio U6 (Piazza dell'Ateneo Nuovo 1), close to the entrance and the Book Exhibit. Reception desk opening hours on all days will be: Wed: 12:00-18:30; Thu: 08:30-17:30; Fri: 08:30-19:00; Sat: 08:30-17:00.

WiFiEduroam wireless internet is available in the University of Milano-Bicocca. If you do not have access to Eduroam, you will be able to connect to the Unimib-Guest WiFi network or the Eduroam by using temporary personal credentials emailed to you prior to the conference (and the Reception desk can also tell you your credentials). These credentials expire on July 24th. Username and password are sensitive data, please treat them accordingly.

WiFi will probably be slower in the mornings when everyone arrives at the venue and logs in from their many devices. Please try to keep surfing to the minimum while sat in panel sessions, as your presenting colleagues may need to use wifi for their presentations...

Conference banquetThe optional conference dinner on the evening of Saturday 23 July (price €50) has sold out (please visit the NomadIT office in U6-10 if you wish to trade your ticket!). The dinner will be a three-course sit-down meal with wine, taking place in Triennale di Milano, Viale Emilio Alemagna, 6, 20121, Milano. The dinner will start at 20:30, so if you arrive early, have a look around in the building (it's a museum).

Book exhibitThere will be a Book Exhibit in U6 Foyer alongside the catering space, where delegates areinvited to browse the titles, and talk to the publisher representatives of Alexander Street Press, Berghahn, Bloomsbury, Cambridge University Press, Combined Academic Publishers, Lit Verlag, Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology, Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity, Pluto Press, Sean Kingston Publishing & Publishing Services, Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group, Verlag der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften and Wiley. The Book Exhibit opening hours will be: Wed 13:00-19:00; Thu 09:00-17:00; Fri 09:00-19:00; Sat 09:00-14:30.

desk. A representative of NomadIT can be contacted in emergency situations on the Italian cell/mobile number +393317396176 or UK cell/mobile +447866 425805.

Making use of your portable deviceGiven that the programme inevitably changes after we go to press, we suggest using yourmobile device to check the conference website: http://www.easaonline.org/conferences/easa2016/index.shtml

If you find the printed book a little inconvenient to carry around, we recommend downloading the PDF or EPUB versions.

More information The timetable, the panel session grid and two versions of the campus map follow. Full information will be in the conference programme which you can collect from the reception desk along with your badge.

On behalf of the local organisers and the EASA exec I would like to thank you all for joining us and ask you to take a moment to consider that with 1700+ registrations, this will be the biggest EASA conference ever. Please accept that there will be a certain degree of chaos and over-crowding; please head calmly to the streaming rooms if the AulaMagna has filled up by the time you arrive for the keynote/plenaries; opt for a different catering point if the one you've picked has too long a queue etc. In a world that appears exceedingly selfish and aloof, let us choose to be kind to one another.

Travel safely!

Yours,

Triinu – with Darren, Elaine, James, Ro and Sammy (NomadIT team)
