Kelley said the notes were not very good, but were passed easjly. Then this exchange tot loved at a recent house ap'» propriations s u b-committee hearing: "It came from New York?" asked Rep. Any person interested in this application who wishes to b D eome a "Party in Interest" in this pro- ceeding in accordance with pub- lished rules and regulations of the Time* Washington Bureau WASHINGTON—The man who wants to write a two- volume biography of the late Secretary of State John Fos- ter Dulles notes that Dulles once masqueraded as his own butler. This Is just one indication of how different Dulles was from the public image of him as an austere, abrupt public servant, according to Philip A. Crowl, assistant to the state department's intel- ligence director and a for- mer history teacher at Princeton university, where the Dulles Library of Diplo- matic History is located. Crowl went on leave from the state department in 1956, when Dulles asked him to prepare his papers for de- posit at Princeton, where the Watertown native went to college. Crowl "reduced" the ma- terial to 100.000 documents totaling 30,000 pages over a four-year period. In February, 1964, an oral history project was started, including more than 280 in- terviews. The Rockefeller Foundation and other donors provided $67,000 and Prince- ton helped out with office space and facilities. Those interviewed includ- ed Secretary of State Dean Rusk, former P r e s i d e n t Eisenhower, Chiang Kai-shek and former French foreign Commission must notify the under- signed in writing on or before the 18th day of April. 1967. Copies of the published rules and regulations may be examined at the Regional Office of the Conservation Department at Box 84, Watertown, New York. "" Any Party in Interest will be eligible to be heard if a public hearing ultimately is held in con- nection with the application. Dated: March 27. 1967 Douglas R. Wilson Local Permit Agent Minister Couve de Murville, as well as Dulles' friends and law partners. Crowl reports that French President Charles deGaulle did not think it would be proper to participate, while Egyptian President Nasser and Yugoslav Premier Tito did not answer invitations. He says the Russians were not asked to help, "although we had hoped to get Molo* tov." Twenty others refused outright to be interviewed, while 30 more, agreed, but did not find time. Crowl says, "There's noth- ing magic about oral history. The scholar has to be just as careful as before." Most of the project inter- views were conducted by Crowl and Richard Challener of Princeton, others by Spen» cer E. Davis of the Associat- ed Press, Gordon Craig of Stanford university. Louis L. Gerson of the University of ConjieclicuL-and^BayJiy Win* der, formerly of Princeton. One interviewee, described Dulles as having spoken kindly to Egyptian Ambassa- dor Ahmed Hussein when he told him the United States was going to withdraw back- ing for the Aswan dam. Most accounts have said Dulles was "rude and abrupt" at the session. "I admire Dulles and am sympathetic," says Crowl, "but I think I'm no more par- tisan than an honest biogra- pher ought to be." Wood Executive Secretary Dated: March 24. 1967. If interested in a' newspaper route for your son, colt or write the circulation manager. Children thrive on personal responsibility. This father knows thot. He's not one to push his sons . . . but he does want them to have responsibilities of their own. He'd also like them to know whot it means to hustle and to hove their efforts show a profit. This father knows thot when a boy tokes charge of a newspaper route he's going into business for himeslf. The boy learnt to budget his time, to keep accurate rec- ords, he learns the self-confidence that comes through responsibility. And his profits give him 4 head start on saving towards college. If your son comes up to you someday and osks if he con have a newspaper route, don't give him the brush-off. He's show- ing o little initiative. Counterfeiters Are Imported by State as Well as Politicians

Time* Weenlngton Bureau

WASHINGTON — New York state imports counterfeiters as well as politicians.

According to Thomas J. Kelley, assistant director of the Secret Service, a man in California came to New York with §700,000 worth of bad notes he had stolen from his companions after government agents had seized the printing plant. Kelley said the notes were not very good, but were passed easjly.

Then this exchange tot loved at a recent house ap'» propriations s u b-committee hearing:

"It came from New York?" asked Rep. Jeffery Cohelan, D., Calif.

"They came to New York from California," said Kelley.

"The printer p r o b a b l y came from Massachusetts," observed Rep. Joseph Ad-datbo, D., Queens.

And his name wasn't Kennedy, either.

WASHINGTON—The man who wants to write a two-volume biography of the late Secretary of State John Foster Dulles notes that Dulles once masqueraded as his own butler.

This Is just one indication of how different Dulles was from the public image of him as an austere, abrupt public servant, according to Philip A. Crowl, assistant to the state department's intelligence director and a former history t e a c h e r at Princeton university, where the Dulles Library of Diplomatic History is located.

Crowl went on leave from the state department in 1956, when Dulles asked him to prepare his papers for deposit at Princeton, where the Watertown native went to college.

Crowl "reduced" the material to 100.000 documents totaling 30,000 pages over a four-year period.

In February, 1964, an oral history project was started, including more than 280 interviews. The Rockefeller Foundation and other donors provided $67,000 and Princeton helped out with office space and facilities.

Those interviewed included Secretary of State Dean Rusk, former P r e s i d e n t Eisenhower, Chiang Kai-shek and former French foreign

Commission must notify the undersigned in wri t ing on or before the 18th day of Apri l . 1967.

Copies of the published rules and regulations may be examined at the Regional Office of the Conservation Department at Box 84, Watertown, New York. ""

Any Party in Interest wil l be eligible to be heard if a public hearing ult imately is held in connection with the application.

Minister Couve de Murville, as well as Dulles' friends and law partners.

Crowl says, "There's nothing magic about oral history. The scholar has to be just as careful as before."

Most of the project interviews were conducted by Crowl and Richard Challener of Princeton, others by Spen» cer E. Davis of the Associated Press, Gordon Craig of Stanford university. Louis L. Gerson of the University of ConjieclicuL-and^BayJiy Win* der, formerly of Princeton.

One interviewee, described Dulles as having spoken kindly to Egyptian Ambassador Ahmed Hussein when he told him the United States was going to withdraw backing for the Aswan dam. Most accounts have said Dulles was "rude and abrupt" at the session.

"I admire Dulles and am sympathetic," says Crowl, "but I think I'm no more partisan than an honest biographer ought to be."

manager.

The boy learnt to budget his time, to keep accurate records, he learns the self-confidence that comes through responsibility. And his profits give him 4 head start on saving towards college.

If your son comes up to you someday and osks if he con have a newspaper route, don't give him the brush-off. He's showing o little initiative. Arjd after al l , that's how good strong character is built.
