MARYCLAIRE ROBINSON Head Coach22nd YearColorado College ’90

Maryclaire Robinson continues her second decade as the face of UC Davis women’s soccer in 2013. During her tenure, she has amassed nearly 200 victories and a .545 winning percentage. Nine times she has led her team to 10 wins or more, which includes a stretch of eight straight seasons with win totals in double figures. In all, Robinson holds a 194-160-31 record.

In 2006, the Aggies completed the final season of a four-year tran-siThe Aggies have received numerous awards and accolades, further strengthening their reputation as one of the most successful women’s soccer programs in the Big West Conference both on, an off the pitch.

Last season, Sienna Drizin earned a spot on the Big West’s all-con-ference second and all-freshman teams; Ashley Edwards also finished the 2012 campaign with 16 points -- a top 10 total -- on seven goals and two assists.

For the third consecutive year, Robinson’s program was recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for its aca-demic excellence and received the organization’s Team Academic Award.

UC Davis has also been recognized twice by the Big West as the recipi-ents of its Fall Sportsmanship Team Award. Earned by the Aggies in 2010 and ‘11, the honor was bestowed upon the Aggies as voted upon by the respective student-athletes in each of the league’s 16 championship sports.

An 11-7-1 overall record, the team’s first-ever trip to the Big West Tournament and Big West Coach of the Year acclaim were just a few of numerous highlights that took place throughout the 2011 season. Besides posting 11 wins that year, its first double-digit victory total since 2002, the program also boasted numerous players who captured individual awards.

In addition to Robinson, Aisha Lott, Lisa Kemp and Allison Kelly received All-Big West recognition, with Lott and Kemp also earning all-region honors from the NSCAA.

In 2006, the Aggies completed the final season of a four-year transi-tion to Division I. The year included a 9-6-2 record as well as a six-game winning streak. It was the team’s best mark since 2002 and provided a springboard to the much-anticipated 2007 season. In 2008, UC Davis posted a 7-7-3 mark and, with its stingy defense, was the only Big West team to allow two or fewer goals in each contest. In 2009, Rochelle VanBuskirk earned the program’s first ever All-Big West Conference First Team selection.

The D-I transition began with the 2003 season with 2004 being the first year of a schedule consisting exclusively of Division I teams. It was during that season the Aggies earned Soccer Buzz magazine’s No. 1 ranking among first-year Division I programs.

During the previous eight seasons, from 1995-2002, Robinson amassed a 95-47-11 record as well as three first-place and three second-place conference finishes. In 1996, her team won a career-best 15 games against just four losses and one tie. That included an 8-1-1 record in the Northern California Athletic Association (NCAC) and a conference title. For her efforts, Robinson was named the NCAC Coach of the Year for the second time as well as Far West Region Coach of the Year. The team was ranked as high as No. 4 nationally and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in UC Davis history.

Robinson’s teams would later go on to win consecutive regular season divisional titles in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in 2001 and 2002.

In 2002, the Aggies had one of the finest years in program history, winning 13 games and reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1996. During that run, UC Davis eliminated conference rival and two-time defending NCAA champion UC San Diego on its way to a national quarterfinal berth. For her efforts, Robinson was named the NCAA Division II West Region Coach of the Year for the second time in her career.

That season Robinson also directed the Aggies to the California Col-legiate Athletic Association tournament for the fourth time in five years, earning CCAA Coach-of-the-Year honors. She reached double figures in victories for the eighth straight time and the ninth time in her first 11 seasons along the Aggie sideline.

Prior to her current position, Robinson served as an assistant coach at UC Davis in 1991 and as JV head coach in 1990 where she guided the team to a 9-4 record.

As a collegiate player, Robinson won first-team All-Central Region honors four times at Colorado College and garnered first-team All-America distinction in 1989. She helped lead her teams to the NCAA title game twice, losing in 1986 and 1989 to North Carolina.

A 1990 graduate of Colorado College, Robinson has also received her teaching credential and master’s degree from Sacramento State.

Robinson holds an Advanced National Diploma with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and a B License with the United States Soccer Federation.

In 2006, Robinson and her teammates from their 1986 collegiate team were inducted into the Colorado College Athletic Hall of Fame. Robinson and her husband, UC Davis alumnus Peter Brostrom, reside in Sacramento with their daughters Teaghan and Piper.

ROZANNE DeWEESE Associate Head Coach10th YearCal State San Bernardino ’97

COLIN GARON Assistant Coach1st YearHumboldt State ’02

KATHLEEN BRANDL Volunteer Assistant Coach1st YearUC Davis ’13

Rozanne DeWeese begins her 10th season on the Aggie staff, and her eighth as associate head coach. She assists head coach MaryClaire Robinson in all facets of coaching, recruiting and program management. During her tenure with the Aggies, she has played an instrumental role in the Aggies’ transition to Division I. In all, she brings more than a decade of coaching experience to UC Davis.

DeWeese’s first three years with the Aggies coincided with the final three seasons for the program in its reclassification from Division II to Division I. During that time, she was an associate head coach on a team that posted a 9-6-2 record in 2006 as an independent competing against an all-Division I schedule as well as a full slate against the team’s future Big West opponents.

Her efforts in recruiting have allowed Robinson to sign some of the program’s top classes in its 25-year history as varsity sport.

DeWeese arrived at UC Davis in July of 2004 after spending the pre-vious four seasons as an assistant coach at Indiana State University. Her responsibilities included on-field coaching, team travel and recruiting coordinator. During her four seasons with the Sycamores, ISU produced two first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference selections and four second-team all-conference honorees.

Before working on the staff at Indiana State, DeWeese spent three years as an assistant at her alma mater, California State University, San Bernardino. As a member of the staff at CSUSB she assisted with the recruiting efforts, practice sessions and monitored the academic progress of the women’s soccer team.

DeWeese played collegiately for the Coyotes and finished her career tied for third all-time in career goals (27) and fifth in points (61). In her senior season she was named team captain, a second-team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association selection, and a CoSIDA Academic All-American. DeWeese was the 1997 Scholar Athlete of the Year and was an NCAA Woman of the Year nominee.

DeWeese holds USSF National “B” and National Youth coaching licenses. She coaches a team with the local Davis Legacy soccer club.

Colin Garon joined the UC Davis women’s soccer program in August, 2013, after spending the last three years at Humboldt State, most recently as its interim head coach.

Before starting his career as a college soccer coach at Humboldt State, his alma mater, Garon was a four-year letterwinner as the Jacks’ primary goalkeeper. A fixture in HSU’s starting lineup from 1998-2001, he still holds numerous top 10 program records.

Ranked third all-time with 17 shutouts, Garon also possesses a 1.52 career goals against average, the seventh-lowest figure in the program’s history.

As a freshman, Garon recorded 5.5 shutouts, the seventh-highest total recorded by a Jacks netminder. Two years later, he earned his second single-season top 10 mark when he ended the 2000 campaign with a 1.20 goals against average.

Prior to his coaching stint at HSU, Garon was the head coach of the Poway Vaqueros Soccer Club from 2008-10. Throughout his tenure with the organization, he led two teams to the State Cup finals and served as a goalkeeper specialist for the club’s youth teams.

Garon earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Humboldt State and began his pursuit of another degree in mathematics shortly after Humboldt State offered him a position as its head men’s soccer assistant coach in 2010.

Four-year Aggie letterwinner Kathleen Brandl begins her first year on the coaching staff in 2013.

The Saint Francis High School alum appeared in 24 contests as a goalkeeper, including starts in all 17 games as a sophomore. She tallied 56 saves with 17 goals against in her careers, logging more than 928 minutes in front of the frame. Brandl capped her career with an Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar award in 2012.

Originally from Redwood City, “KB” helped her De Anza Force club team to State Cup titles in each of her last two seasons. She also helped SFHS to West Catholic Athletic League and Central Coast Section cham-pionships during varsity action.

Aggie Coaching HistoryUC Davis women’s soccer enters its 29th year of varsity status, having run under the guidance of just four head coaches. The program had been a club until 1983, then became a part of the intercollegiate athletics department after field hockey was discon-tinued.
