The Anglican Church of Noosa Week 2, Genesis 2 Discussion Questions 1. Adam posed that one of the most helpful ways to approach Genesis 1 and 2, is as Historical Parable. Historical, because it refers to events of history; Parable, because it is told in a dramatic and illustrative way through story. What do you think about this? God Breathed (Read vv.4-7) 2. Have you previously noticed that Genesis contains two creation accounts? What are the different (but complementary) messages that they communicate? 3. What is the full implication of God being given a name (Lord/Yahweh) in chapter 2? How does this differ from other religions and/or worldviews? 4. The creation of humankind in Genesis 2 is humbling and beautiful. What is the link between Adam and the dust from which he was created? 5. How does humankind differ from other parts of creation? What does it mean to be a living being? 6. If God breathing life into us means that we are able to relate and serve him, how can we do this? God Planted (Read vv.8-17) 7. How would you describe the garden to a friend? 8. Whilst we are given much freedom, it is clear that humankind is also accountable to God. Do you think Christians find it hard to submit to God’s authority? 9. What is the expectation of man in the garden? Take some time to explain both responsibilities described in verse 15. 10. How do these verses remind us of the dignity of all work? (Reading vv.1-3, you might also like to reflect on the implications for rest.) God Gave (Read vv.18-25) 11. Why did God give humankind the gift of marriage? Especially take time to discuss how the spouse is intended to be both suitable and a helper. 12. How does the joining of man and woman honour God and enable humanity to flourish? 13. Why do you think that marriage is so important in the Bible and the ultimate symbol of Christ and the Church? 14. What would marriage be like if there was complete openness and no shame? How can we live more openly towards God and each other? 15. How has Jesus made it possible for the perfection of creation to be made a reality again?

Week 2, Genesis 2 Discussion Questions
