1. What is the subject of your BA thesis?

My BA thesis is on translation assessments.

2. What is the topic of your BA thesis?

My BA thesis will approach the discrepancies in translation between the original Harry Potter series and its Romanian version.

3. How did you select the subject for your paper?

From all the courses I took in almost 3 years at University, translation studies were my favorite field. That is why I decided to write my degree paper on this subject, so I could improve my translation skills, and not only.

4. Where did you get the idea for your research paper topic?

I chose “Harry Potter” for 2 reasons. Firstly, it is one of my favorite childhood novels. Secondly, as I read both versions of the 7 volumes, in Romanian and English, I realized that there are significant differences between the two and that they should be pointed out.

5. Phrase your subject as a question and answer it briefly.

How should translators proceed in translating a children’s novel from English to Romanian?

They have to keep the original version as it is, without changing the names and the course of events, or to adapt it as well as they can. The contribution of a native speaker would also help.

Why is Harry Potter’sRomanian translation considered to be different from the original?

The person that translated Harry Potter in Romanian was only 16 years old when she started to translate it, andshe did not have enough knowledge of translations.The result consists in 7 volumes of a bestseller which do not correspond exactly to the original version at a lexical level, and more.
