Even though this was a low budget/no budget film, the advantages of Web 2.0 technologies give the software that enable people to still make, distribute, promote and research products. An example of these products and technologies are many of the ones that I used. Some of the products that I used are ones that I had no area of expertise in, and now I feel as though I would be able to use them confidently, one of these being Premier Pro, which I now feel I could use in other areas of my education. PREMIER PRO: Once we had all the main footage we needed to get started with making the trailer, we transferred all the footage from the video camera onto a Mac so that we could open it up in Premier Pro. This programme enabled us to place the footage how we wanted by cutting it up and changing to order of shots on the timeline layout which made it a lot easier to move about and see where different shots were being placed. Not only this, but the programme had a lot of effects built in to change how the footage looks and it also allowed the footage to be faded in and out when we needed it to be. Premier Pro also had a function that allowed us to put our own text in between some of the footage, making it look more like a realistic trailer, and there were also effect to manipulate the text and we ended up having our text come onto the screen with a typewriter effect. It also allowed us to place our own music and sound effects so we could place these on the timeline with the footage. To begin with, I wasn’t sure how to use the programme as I had no previous experience with it, but I picked up some skills and I would definitely use the programme again if I were doing something similar as the effects in the programme are very professional and very useful for the type of product that we were making. PHOTOSHOP: After using Photoshop last year, I was able to transfer all the skills that I had learned and used them within this work to create both of my ancillary texts, which are my poster and film magazine. The programme allowed me to use my own photographs and manipulate them how I wanted whilst also being able to put things such as text on the products as well. I also used Photoshop to scan in my planning materials and I used it to create a mood board showing all the different ideas we had for the trailer. I feel as though using Photoshop helped to make the ancillary texts look a lot more realistic and therefore they followed the codes and conventions of other magazine covers and film posters. I learnt more skills this year in the programme, and these are skills that I will be able to use further within my education. VIDEO CAMERA: This was what we used to film all the footage for our film trailer, we also used a tripod whilst filming some scenes to try and keep the footage steady but other times we did hand held so we could change the angles easily. It is also expected of low budget films that they won’t always be shot using a steady tripod and often will be shot using hand held. GOOGLE: Google being a worldwide popular search engine enabled me to search for what I needed on the internet. I used it to find photographs to use on my written texts and it also allowed me to find different magazines and posters for both analysis and to help create my ancillary texts with a bit of a template.

Not only this, but the programme had a lot of effects built in to change how the footage looks and it also allowed

the footage to be faded in and out when we needed it to be.

It is also expected of low budget films that they won’t always be shot using a steady tripod and often will be shot using hand held.

GOOGLE: Google being a worldwide popular search engine enabled me to search for what I needed on the internet. DIGITAL CAMERA: I used a digital camera to take the photographs of the girl who played a main part in the trailer for my ancillary texts. BLOGGER: This website was an essential part of me being

able to show my work, this is because it allowed me to put all my written work in one place, but I could also upload photographs and videos to put with the written work making it aesthetically pleasing. This website also allowed me to change my blog to my own interests and so I managed to create a blog that matches the genre of work that I have been researching and creating. And so, Blogger has played a large part in my work as it is where it is all kept and can be seen by all audiences.

DAFONT.COM: This is a website where people who create fonts can put them online and either make money from them or allow others to download them for personal use. This is where I decided to gain some of the fonts I used, because I knew that they would stand out among other regular fonts and they would be a font that isn’t particularly popular. And so I ended up using the font as the ‘Inevitable’title on both the ancillary texts.

IMDB: This is the main website I used for finding out important information about different films and it also helped me to narrow down what genre some films fit into. By using this site, I knew that it was reliable and so I was happy to use the information that I found in my research.

YOUTUBE: I used YouTube to help with the research for the main product; it helped me to view both old and new film trailers. By doing this, it allowed me to see how trailers have changed over the years but still manage to hold the same code and conventions; it was here that I found trailers to analyse as well. This is also where our trailer has been uploaded and from here it made it easier to upload it to my blog.

APPLE MAC: As a group, we used one of the Apple Mac’s to produce our trailer, because these are the computers that have Premier Pro on which are the programmes that we used to edit our footage and complete the trailer.

IPHONE: This is the mobile that I have, and it is what I used to take some of the photographs and it also enabled me to keep in contact with the rest of my group therefore we could arrange filming times and create schedules to be able to complete our work.
