Ben Page Question 3 What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?Two big media companies that publish magazines are IPC and Bauer. The genre of my magazine is rock so then it makes sense to be published by a publishing company that mainly specialises in rock magazines. Upon looking into IPC I have gained an understanding of the kind of magazines that it produces. These include magazines such as TV Times, Homes & Gardens and World Soccer. Therefore it would not be suitable to have my magazine published by this company as they are not known for music magazines. If you wanted to get attention for your magazine it would be more appropriate to have it published through a company that focus mainly on other music magazines. Covers of magazines published by IPC:

It is clear to see that from these magazine examples that the IPC are not really a company that commonly publishes music magazines, so it is not like that they would distribute my media product. IPC was the company I originally thought would publish my magazine, but after looking at the kind of magazines that they produce it would not be suitable for my magazine.

Bauer however are a company that more commonly publish music magazines. These include Q, Kerrang and Mojo. These are the same type of magazine as my media product; therefore it is more likely that my magazine would be distributed by them. I feel that a magazine would be more successful if it were to be published by a company such as this, as they will be able to make it more recognized and be more successful.Here are some examples of magazine covers from Bauer:

As you can see from these magazine covers , Bauer distribute magazine that are a lot more like my magazine, as they are the same genre, and are also rock magazines, which is the genre of my magazine. Therefore they have both experience in publishing music magazines and rock music magazines. Therefore it would be very likely they would be suitable form distributing my magazine.

This is my magazine, which you can see is a lot more similar to the ones produced by Bauer. When you look at my magazine it is fairly recognizable as a music magazine with things such as the sell line Exclusive Demo CD, and the fact that person in the image is wearing headphones. In the magazines above similar features can be seen such as the cover line Weve made the album of our lives, which points out that this is obviously that it is a music magazine.
