Luke 2 GWV
10The angel said to them … 12“… You will find an infant wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a manger.”
Luke 2 GWV
10The angel said to them …
“… I have good news for you, a message that will fill everyone with joy.

who was lying in a manger.
Luke 2 GWV
17When they saw the child, they repeated what they had
been told about him. 18Everyone who heard
the shepherds’ story was amazed. 19Mary treasured all these things
in her heart and always thought about them.
Luke 2 GWV
What if your ability to receive help and advice from other people
reveals your ability to receive help and advice from God?
17… those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gi[ of righteousness
reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
Romans 5 ESV
“Love God …”
and
“Love your neighbor…”
Loving God is a two-‐way relaeonship:
We love God with all we’ve got; God loves us with way more!
In fact, “we love because God loved us first.”
1 John 4:19 GWV
In fact, being loved is the premiere part
of this love relaeonship.
Loving our neighbor is the same, in that, it, too, is a two-‐way relaeonship:
We give love to our neighbor, and We receive love from our neighbor.
“Real relaeonships require give and take
– nobody with all the power and nobody with all the need. It steals a person’s dignity
to always be in a posieon of need, without ever having the opportunity
to be the giving one.”
“Love Where You Live” Bible Study
Example:
One sack of mulch
“When giving is two-‐sided, everyone feels a sense of worth. We need to understand that
everyone on our block has something to bring to the relaeonship.
… a feeling of “we can do this together” is created, and that is healthy.”
Jay Pathak & Dave Runyon The Art of Neighboring
Example:
The ever-‐said, never done
“If there’s anything I can do …”
You might quote Bible back to me:
“It is beLer to give than to receive.”
Acts 20:35 ESV
Sears Cra[sman brand lines:
“Good” “BeLer” “Best”
“Good” to receive “BeLer” to give “Best” to have both!
Example:
“Sprained ankles wai%ng to happen.”
Use your neighbor map to fill in some (b) level info
about their areas of experese and passions.
Then think about your neighbor’s when you get stuck!
Any neighbors with kids? Ask them to help you throw a birthday party for Jesus!
Any neighbors with musical talent? Go Christmas caroling to the larger neighborhood
around yours
Remember the baby lying in the feed box,
your Savior, Christ the Lord?
4So Jesus got up from the table, took a towel, and …
5Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet
and dry them with the towel …
John 13 GWV
8Peter told Jesus, “You will never wash my feet.”
Jesus replied to Peter, “If I don’t wash you,
you don’t belong to me.”
John 13 GWV
9Simon Peter said to Jesus,
“Lord, don’t wash only my feet. Wash my hands
and my head too!”
John 13 GWV
12Jesus … took his place at the table again.
14“… you must wash each other’s feet.
15I’ve given you an example that you should follow.”
John 13 GWV
1In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.
14The Word became human
and lived among us. John 1 GWV
16God loved the world this way:
He gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life.
John 3:16 GWV
Father God,
increase my love for you,
build my love for my literal neighbors,
and inspire me to be the “Good God!” neighbor,
for Jesus’ sake, amen.
