Queensway: Cultivating Community Connections

DESCRIPTION

Entry into the Emerging New York Architects' 2014 design competition, calling for proposals to create a linear park in the defunct Queensway. The proposal, Cultivating Community Connections, aims to provide educational and economic opportunities for residents of Central Queens through emphasis on urban agriculture, active design, physical access, multi-modal transportation, water, renewable energy, and waste management systems. Strategies to improve these systems are incorporated into a series of agricultural interventions, culminating at the new Ozone Park Station Sustainable Living Institute, a learn + work co-operative that cultivates existing assets to produce community improvements. Project Team: Leonel Lima Ponce, Zella Pirello, Elizabeth Bowler, Graham Cavanagh, Klio Mandalou, Mayank Teotia, Eric Olsen
