QSDA Award – Dancers who successfully pass at least one QSDA Examination from

19th August 2017 until the 15th June 2018, and compete at The Queensland Scottish Dancing Association 2018 Competition are eligible to enter a ballot to win $100 cash to

further their Highland Dancing development.

Dancers are requested to observe the ABHDI direction regarding standard of dress whilst in attendance at Highland Dancing Competitions. If dancers choose to remove any part of their costume whilst not competing, it is requested they be modestly attired at all times.

✓ AGE GROUPS will be decided upon receipt of entries.

✓ Aggregate Trophies will be awarded in all sections (except Primary) See Rule 7.

✓ In each Premier section dance, an additional prize will be awarded. This prize will be awarded to a Premier dancer who has not been otherwise placed in that dance and in accordance with Rule 6. The restricted prize will not incur any points towards the overall Aggregate in the section.

✓ RESTRICTED TROPHY DANCE – Entry is restricted to those Premier dancers who have not been placed in

accordance with Rule 6. Eligible dancers can also enter the Premier Trophy Dance.

RULES AND CONDITIONS – SATURDAY 16 JUNE 2018

1. This competition is registered with the South Queensland Regional Committee of Highland Dancing Inc. Reg. No. SQC 18/06 and will be conducted under the rules and conditions as set down by SOBHD and adopted by ABHDI.

2. Dancers must be registered and present registration card on the day of competition. 3. Age to be taken as at date of competition– 16/6/18). 4. Dancers are to compete in their own age group and one classification only. 5. PRE-PREMIER - Eligibility for Pre-Premier section will apply as at date of competition and shall be in accordance

with SOBHD registration scheme. 6. RESTRICTED DANCES / PRIZE – Eligibility for these is defined as a Premier dancer who has not been placed 1st,

2nd or 3rd in a Registered Championship since 16/06/14. 7. AGGREGATE - In each age group within the Beginners, Novice, Intermediate and Premier classification, an

aggregate trophy will be awarded. To be eligible, competitors do not have to dance in all relevant section dances in their age group. Points will be awarded according to placing’s given on the basis of: 1st - 137 points, 2nd - 91 points, 3rd - 71 points, 4th - 53 points, 5th - 37 points, 6th - 23 points.

8. QSDA AWARD – Dancers who successfully pass at least one QSDA Examination from 19 August 2017 until 15 JUNE 2018, and compete at The Queensland Scottish Dancing Association 2018 Competition are eligible to enter a ballot to win $100 cash to further their Highland Dancing development.

9. Dancers compete entirely at their own risk. 10. Dancers arriving late for a section will not be allowed to compete if the dance has been completed. Alternatively,

competitors may not pre-dance prior to the commencement of a section. 11. Dancers must “fill in” if requested by the organiser. If a competitor fails to fill in unless for a medical reason the

Organiser has the right to enforce Rule 1g), Page 44 D-Judges, SOBHD Rules and Regulations, which reads: “During the course of a competition the comportment and behaviour of the competitors may come under the jurisdiction of the Judges, not only whilst dancing, but also when entering or leaving the platform and whilst waiting for the dance to start. Any unseemly behaviour on the part of a competitor or any misdemeanour likely to upset the decorum of the proceedings may be penalised by the Judges and could lead to disqualification. A full report of any such conduct on the part of a competitor must be submitted by the Judge to the Organiser. In serious cases, the Judge should also provide a report of any such conduct on the part of the competitor to the Organiserand to the SOBHD.

12. Dancers entering sections when ineligible shall forfeit their entry fee. 13. The Committee reserves the right to refuse entries, substitute an Adjudicator and/or alter the program at their

discretion. 14. Subject to the official protest ruling, the Judge’s decision is final. 15. Any complaint made by an individual against the organisation or the adjudication of an event must be in writing

stating the complainant's full name and address and be lodged with the organiser, if possible on the day of the event, and no later than 48 hours after the event. Such a complaint is to be accompanied by a fee of $5.00, which is refundable if the protest is upheld.

16. For presentation of prizes, dancers must be in Kilt or National Costume. Competition numbers must be worn for prize giving ceremony.

17. Video equipment and Photography – DEFINITELY NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY is allowed whilst dancers are competing. Videoing is permitted with the following proviso – Only own child or pupil can be filmed and at no time will the film or video be accepted as evidence when protesting judging.

18. If after submitting an entry a competitor changes classification, the Entries Secretary must be notified as soon as practicable, PRIOR to competition day.

19. Any rules pertaining to the competition and/or championship released from SOBHD and ABHDI from time of printing this schedule and actual date of competition will be adhered to.

20. Competitors must use the official music and swords provided by the committee. 21. No warm-up or practicing is permitted inside the hall whilst dancers are competing. 22. Smoking is not permitted inside the hall or in the school grounds. 23. Dancers are requested to observe the ABHDI direction regarding standard of dress whilst in attendance at Highland

Dancing Competitions. If dancers choose to remove any part of their costume whilst not competing, it is requested they be modestly attired at all times.

24. Queensland Scottish Dancing Association is not liable for the safety of unaccompanied dancers and unsupervised non-dancers.

25. Queensland Scottish Dancing Association’s Risk Management Strategy will be in force and will be available for anyone who wishes to peruse this document.

26. Refunds will only be given on production of a medical certificate and if the Competition Secretary is advised in writing prior to the event. No refunds will be given if a dancer does not meet the criteria above or does not compete on the day.

27. Following the awards parents may photograph their own child or others with parental permission but be highly aware that there must not be other children in shot whose privacy must be protected.

28. As Organisers of this event QSDA plans to photograph winning competitors for the purpose of posting on the SQ Facebook page. Please indicate on the entry form if you wish to opt out of this process.

29. Queensland Scottish Dancing Association reserves the right to deal with any matter not covered by these rules.
