Stem changers in the present tense: How do they work?

In some conjugations of the verb, a letter in the stem/root changes. Then they use the same endings as regular verbs.

We’ve already noted that –ar and –er verbs that stem change in the present DON’T in the preterite so we’ll stick to –ir verbs.
