What are the objectives and scope of BT’s next generation network – 21CN? • The objectives of BT’s 21CN programme are to enhance the

customer experience, accelerate product to market times and reduce costs

• 21CN is fundamentally about customer choice. It is a platform for software-driven, open innovation by BT, our customers and partners across the globe

• BT is streamlining 17 networks into one platform, reusing capabilities and removing complexity

• The UK core infrastructure is 100% complete and will be capable of managing the significant growth in capacity from new media content

• 21CN involves updates to the core of the network but is complementary to BT’s plans for the rollout of next generation fibre access

Voice strategy – Wholesale Line Rental (WLR)

• Openreach’s Wholesale Line Rental (WLR) portfolio enables CPs to offer their own-branded telephony services over the Openreach network

• CPs access the WLR2 products through the Service Provider Gateway (SPG)

• Openreach have announced their intent to retire WLR2

• WLR3 is the latest development of the Wholesale Line Rental portfolio

• WLR3 is delivered via Openreach’s strategic Equivalence Management Platform (EMP)

Voice strategy – Wholesale Line Rental (WLR) on 21CN

• WLR on 21CN feature set discussions will continue at the Industry WLR Commercial Forum

• The installed base of WLR3 will migrate to 21CN on a like for like basis through the national migration from the end of April 2010

• This will be for PSTN and ISDN, on a rolling geographic basis

Quarterly web-call – Voice strategy – ISDN

ISDN strategy:

11

Voice strategy – Wholesale Broadband Connect Converged (WBCC)

Voluntary migration to WBCC starts in January 2010 in specific geographies.National migration to WBCC starts from end April 2010 following WLR migrations to 21CN

What does it do?

Offers CPs a packaged end-to-end converged voice and broadband service

Allows CPs to differentiate in broadband / voice features, overlay and integrate next generation SIP based applications, and call packages

What are the benefits?

Allows CPs to offer Broadband services

Will also be offered in a voice-only form, Wholesale Voice Connect (WVC)

Provides Narrowband service to allow CPs to supply Publicly Available Telephone Service (PATS) services via their call servers

Page 12: Quarterly update on BT’s 21CN programme

12

Voice strategy – Wholesale Voice Connect (WVC)

The voice only variant of WBCC that will offer CPs an alternative to Wholesale Line Rental (WLR) plus Wholesale Calls / Carrier Pre Select (CPS)

Allows the voice service to be defined and delivered by CP’s owned or managed network

An alternative to WLR allowing the CP’s call server to deliver the voice service Gives the ability to innovate, differentiate and segment through voice services that do not directly rely on a BT owned feature set or capabilityGives the ability to leverage call server capability and offer narrowband and broadband derived voice servicesBenefits from synergies, a common infrastructure/system interfaces and product family components (where a CP is also offering WBCC (voice and broadband) to its end users, either in the same or different geographies)

What does it do? What are the benefits?

Voice migration first phase of voice pilot activity – Pathfinder • The voice migration and pilot activity in preparation for voice network

migration is known as Pathfinder

• This pilot activity involves voice line migrations only at present

• The pilot is taking place in a small area of South Wales

• Pathfinder will provide learning and build confidence for large scale migrations

• All planning and operational activities are carried out in close collaboration with a working group of service providers

• We are contacting service providers with customers in the area ahead of migration activities

• National voice migration begins in April 2010
