From international and regional marketing campaigns to music and sport events, Tourism Sun Peaks promotes awareness and drives new visitors to resort businesses. These are highlights and successes from the last quarter. QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER For more information, please visit us online at SunPeaksResort.com/Tourism Central Reservations Central Reservations was the independent contractor for the reservation call centre and on-site check-in for the April Coors Light Snowbombing Canada Festival. We operated a call centre from October to April and facilitated a five-day satellite office located at the Sun Peaks Grand. This was a successful contract for Central Reservations. Market Development In April, Tourism Sun Peaks joined Destination Canada on a 5 day UK road show, training 280 summer-focused travel agents. Also on the circuit were our key wholesale operators that create the packages the agents sell. Sharing this time together allowed TSP to enhance relationships and give the agents and operators a more in-depth understanding of what Sun Peaks can offer guests through the summer months. Marketing Tourism Sun Peaks’ summer marketing campaign is in full swing and we are now turning our attention to the coming winter. With the success of last winter’s campaign, we are able to fine-tune our 2017/18 campaign even further to maximize our results. Video and content will be front and center, as we have some great imagery and video (captured last winter) that will be used to launch this year’s campaign. Once again, our focus will be on Washington, BC, Alberta and Ontario. The campaign is set to launch in early October. Events Due to the influx of guest visitation for Foam Fest in 2016, it was decided that the Farmers’ Market would open a week early in 2017. Despite a slightly lower vendor turnout, the village was bustling with activity, and three vendors sold out of products. The weather was exceptional for an early season start and the guest musician, Matt Duffus, did an excellent job of entertaining kids and adults alike. Adventure Centre Relocation As of the end of the winter 2016/17 season, Tourism Sun Peaks is no longer operating the Adventure Centre satellite activity booking office in the Village Day Lodge. We have combined departments into the newly expanded Central Reservation section of the Tourism Sun Peaks office. This location will provide additional space to service guests for accommodation, transfers, activity bookings, event tickets and general inquiries. This amalgamation will lead to staff and administrative efficiencies and an improved guest experience. Summer 2017 Media Relations Tourism Sun Peaks closed out a successful winter FAM season in April with media visits from The Province newspaper (Vancouver), New Zealand Herald and Freeskier Magazine (US). In early June, the Media Relations department conducted media calls in Kamloops, Kelowna and Vancouver, delivering targeted pitches to qualified journalists and media outlets. Moving in to the summer months, an emphasis has been placed on our securing high-value golf journalists to showcase our 18-hole Graham Cooke designed golf course. President’s Message June 2017 marks the 27th consecutive month of year-over-year increases in rooms nights sold and occupancy. For the first time ever in 2016/17, year-round occupancy exceeded 40%. Our goal is to move that number closer to 50% and in pursuit of that goal, we are rallying around a target of 50 consecutive months of increases. Large events, conferences, tour groups and independent travellers will all contribute to this goal and we will work to maximize opportunities in each of these areas. Our new brand platform, which was recently presented to the community, gives us the tools to tell our story and set Sun Peaks apart from the competition. Together with our partners, we are in a great position to continue to grow as a destination and as a community.
