    Persistence of Vision

Persistence of vision is the phenomenon of the eyeby which an afterimage is thought to persist forapproximately one twenty-fifth of a second on theretina.

    THE PROJECTOGRAPH

2D Persistence of VisionThese devices create an image or text on a 2D plane. This is oftenachieved by waving a wand of LEDs very quickly or by spinning a similarwand around a pivot like a bicycle wheel or a spinning plate.

3D Persistence of VisionThis type of display works on a similar principle to the 2D POV devices except the

wand is moved in a 3D space. Doing this creates an image with three dimensions.Only the shell of an object can be seen, but nothing inside of the object.

Volumetric Persistence of VisionThis last type of display involves rotating an image plane around a central axis.Doing so not only creates an image field in width and height, but also in depth. Aviewer can see inside an object, and not just through it.

    3D-TO-VOLUMETRIC SOFTWA

OpenFrameworksprovides an easy platform todevelop 3D applications from an artisticperspective. Because it is based in C++, it isalso very fast for complex computationalprocesses.

There are two methods used for creatingvolumetric displays on the software side:vector based, and raster based.

Images are often sliced into pieces similar toMRI scans in order to display a 3D image.

    3D-TO-VOLUMETRIC SOFTWA

    Pros

When viewing a volume created and optimized by thesoftware, it is easier to understand spatial relationshipsand scale as opposed to viewing them on a 2Dscreen.

Packaging the software with the hardware is a good

    way to showcase the products.

    PROS AND CO

    Cons

The process of converting 3D space render is a complicated and computaexpensive process
