REMEMBERING THE FALLENOn Sunday 13
thNovember, all the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts joined in with
the rest of the village to take part in the annual Remembrance Day parade.
This is where the village takes time to remember those who fought for our
future in the First and Second World Wars, and also in the more recent
wars. They set off the parade at 10.00am and marched up the village to the
Church, stopping at the Royal British Legion on the way to pick up the War
Veterans. This was then followed by a short service by the War Memorial
where a Beaver, a Cub and a Scout laid poppy wreaths along with other
organisations from the village.

Kaa, Cubs
The Beavers havehad a busy month this month, taking part
in a variety of activities.
First of all, they took part in the Fitness
badge, and did various sporty activities.
We then held a Halloween Party, with
various ghoulish activities.
We also held our very own Bonfire Night,
before the real thing took place the
following Saturday!
And finally, we did a Spotty Night in aid of
the Children in Need charity.
Firstly, the Cubs have been having an
Explorer helping out called Charlie, for his
Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Next, the Cubs held their annual Halloween
Party on Wednesday 26th
October and took
part in various games and had party food.
It was a fun evening for all and Cubs came
dressed as skeletons and vampires and had
a feast of ghoulish food. They played
games in the dark and tried to eat
chocolate with a fork and spoon which is
a lot harder than it looks!
The Cubs also made their annual Guy
Fawkes for the Village Competition and
came 3rd, the Guy looked like a cross
between a girl and a clown!
The following week they were practising
their parading ready for Remembrance
Sunday, making sure they were all in line
and looking their best for representing the
Cub Pack to the Village!

veryone for a wonderful turnout and they should all be
roud of themselves.
was a great day, with great weather and everyone should
e very proud of themselves!
CUBS RUNNERS-UP
AT DISTRICT
SWIMMING GALA Continued from Front Page
The normal relay had four of the Cubs doing back
stroke, breast stroke, front crawl and freestyle.
The Hook-a-duck collection race had six of the cubs
collecting the objects from the pool with a fishing
net in a relay-style race.
The parents and guardians could watch their child
swim from the viewing room, which was in fact, a
therapy room!
The final placings consisted of Wolds 3rd
,
Queniborough 2nd, and Rothley 1st.
All in all, the Cubs had a brilliant time and was
enjoyed by all.
GENERAL NEWS
TOP OF THE MORNINGOn Saturday 12
thNovember,
Queniborough Scouts held a
Table Top Sale at the Village
Hall.
Stalls on show included books, toys, Christmas items, knitting,
clothes, DVDs and kitchenware
to name but a few.
Event Organiser, Colin
Graham, said at the start: I
think it will go quite well.
Theres a good queue of
people outside already.
The usual people have come
to support us.
A good hundred people came
through the doors and showed
their support for the group.
Twenty-one tables were sold
altogether and some did better
than others.
Stallholder, Ben King, thought
his stall couldve done better: I
think this morning has been
quite slow for me.
I havent sold has much as Ithought I would.
Hopefully it will pick up
later.
The low amount of purchases
on the stalls, is mostly likely due
to the recession, but they
certainly did well, considering
there was a similar Table TopSale on in Rearsby.
Colin predicted that we had
raised about one hundred
pounds from the morning,
including money raised from
selling teas, coffees and squash
and an entrance fee.
Tables were charged at six
pounds each and entry was fifty
pence.
We hope there will be
another sale on in February
with a Valentines Disco, which
unfortunately had to be
cancelled his time, due to lack
of tickets being sold.
All in all it was a good
morning and of a moderate
success, which everyone
seemed to enjoy.

NEW LEADERS ARE NEEDEDLeaders are in short supply at Queniborough, it is announced. Cubs especially,
as Baloo is not always able to make it because of work commitments. Scouts
also only have two full leaders at present and the Group is always looking for
more adult volunteers, even if it is just helping out every week. As the
numbers in the Group are increasing, it is more important than ever that the
Group recruit more adults to support the growing demand for places in
Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and to make sure the Group is secure in the long
run. We are primarily recruiting for Cub and Scout Leaders, however theBeaver section has the most numbers, so leaders will be needed there too! If
you can spare just a few hours each week it could make all the difference to
the success that the group has. Thank you very much!
AWARDS EARNEDQueniborough Scouts Michael Allsop and Ben King
have recently achieved the highest awards possible
for Scouting and Duke of Edinburgh Scheme. They
have achieved the Queens Scout Award and Gold
Duke of Edinburgh Award. Michael has been up to
St. James Palace to collect this Gold Award,
whereas Ben is still yet to go. They will both be
participating in the annual Windsor Castle paradenext April with hundreds of other newly appointed
Queen Scouts. Well done to them both!

GROUP NUMBERS HIGHEST FOR FOUR YEARS
GROUP EXECUTIVE
NEWS
The numbers in the Group are
on the rise, it was announced at
the last Group Executive
Committee Meeting.
Beavers have 20, Cubs, 14 and
Scouts have 9 in the biggest rise
n Group numbers in the last
four years.
Only two years ago, the Group
was struggling to top the 30
mark, needed for the group to
be viable.
This goes to show that the
effort put by in the leaders and
members of the committee can
be very rewarding and are
worth it in the end.
The Group certainly has been
very lucky in this respect, to be
able to have kept going for so
ong.
This hopefully signifies a new
era for the Group and will lead
the way for more young people
to join up and have fun!
But with more members, more
leaders are needed (see below),
and hopefully this will
encourage people to step
forward and volunteer.
We are now looking forward to
the next year and hoping more
6-14 year olds will join the
villages 35 year old association
and keep it in the village for
another 35 years!
As a mark of respect, the Group turnout in their numbers
for Remembrance Sunday

WIDER VIEW
GROWTH IN COUNTY, NOT JUSTGROUP
There has been a major
increase in numbers, not just in
our Group, but in the whole of
the County, Leicestershire
Scouts have announced.
Combined adult and youth
membership in the County now
stands at 8019, making
Leicestershire the fastest
growing Scout County in the
country for the year 2010-2011.
In the UK as a whole, 4,330 girls
and 3,796 boys have joined themovement and total
membership in the UK has now
passed half a million, standing
at 507, 867.
Bear Grylls, Chief Scout, said:
Its great to see that more and
more girls are signing up to
Scouting and that the
Movement is continuing to
grow as a whole.
Being a Scout represents all
that is great about life:
adventure, life skills and
friendship and it is no surprise
that so many girls are wanting
to be part of that.
Its absolutely crucial though
that more adults sign up as
volunteers as well, to ensure
that we can keep up with the
huge demand.
The growing number of people
wanting to join Scouting means
that the waiting lists for places
remain at an all time high.
Byron Chatburn, County
Commisioner, admired the work
of all the volunteers and
support that makes Scouting in
Leicestershire happen, saying:
We should all be pleased and
proud to be part of an
organisation that so many
people want to join.
On a weekly basis leaders are
providing a programme
Everyday Adventure that
Young People want to take part
in and supported by you and
your teams they are enabling
even more to participate in the
opportunities that Scouting
offers.
Thank you for everything you
have done to achieve this and
please make sure that everyone
in your District/team knows
that they are all part of a great
success story!
