IntroductionWhat are the Four Pillars of Christianity?

Christianity is based on Four Pillars, namely:

2) SACRAMENTS, representing our Public Worship: what must we celebrate as a community?

3) COMMANDMENTS, repre-senting our Morals: what must we do?

4) OUR FATHER, represent-ing our Personal Prayer: how should we pray?

What is the Apostles’ Creed?

The Apostles’ Creed, also known as the Symbol of Faith, is the sum-mary of the fundamental truths of Christianity. It is composed of 12

articles, corresponding to the number of the Apostles. The word Creed comes from the Latin verb credere, which means “to believe.” According to a venerable tradition, after Pentecost, and before depart-ing to preach the Gospel “to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8), each apostle dictated one article of the Creed under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Compiling the 12 articles, they came up with the Apostles’ Creed, which they brought along with them as the seal of true Christian faith. The Apostles’ Creed is also called the Baptismal Creed, because it is professed by the catechumens during the rite of Baptism, usually in the form of questions and answers. The Church of Rome has been using the Apostles’ Creed uninterruptedly since the time of St. Peter (64 AD).

Article 5: He descended into hell; on the third day he rose

again from the dead.

As the body of Jesus was re-posed into the tomb, his

soul descended into the Sheol, or Ades, which is the place where the souls of the just stayed before the resurrection of Christ (1 Peter 3: 18-19). Paradise was closed by Adam's original sin, and opened again by Christ's redemption. At dawn, of Sunday morn-ing, Mary Magdalene and other women went to the tomb, where they met the angel of the Lord, who said: "Jesus is not here, he has risen" (Matthew 28:6). Upon hearing the news, Peter and John ran to the tomb: after seeing the linen cloths on the ground, they believed. Eight days later Jesus ap-peared again to the disciples, and said to Thomas: "Doubt no lon-ger but believe!" Thomas replied: "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to him: "You believe because you can see me. Happy are those who have not seen and yet be-lieve" (John 20: 27-29).

The Year of Faith was announced by Pope Benedict XVI in his apostolic letter Porta Fidei. It will begin on October 11, 2012, the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, and the 20th

anniversary of the publication of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The year will end on November 24, 2013, the Solemnity of Christ the King. The Year of Faith should be celebrated at the catechetical and liturgical level. Concerning the catechesis, we are invited to promote evangelization and catechism among Christians and non-Christians alike. Concerning the liturgy, there should be penitential celebrations, in which we ask forgiveness especially for sins against faith, and solemn professions of faith, particularly during the Mass. The LOGO of the Year of Faith contains a boat, representing the Church; the cross, symbol of our faith; and the sail with the acronym IHS, which refers to the Eucharist. This calendar presents the 12 articles of the Apostles' Creed, which is the oldest profession of Christian faith. It was composed by the 12 Apostles under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, before their departure for evangelizing the world.

Faith is the theological virtue by which we believe in the exis-

tence of God and in his revelation. In order to be saved, we need faith and good works, as St. James said: "Faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead" (James 2:17). The basic truth of our Christian faith is the Dogma of the Blessed Trinity, which declares: "God is one Divine Nature in Three Divine Per-sons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit." It was revealed by Jesus himself, who said: "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19). We believe that God created the universe out of nothing and out of love. The Bible begins with this sol-emn declaration: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1). God created also the angels, with the purpose of serving him and guarding his creation. But some of them rebelled and were cast into hell. Article 10: I believe the forgiveness of sins.

All of us are sinners, and we deserve eternal death. How-

ever God, in his great mercy, sent his only Son to save us from our sins. As the Gospel says: "His name is Jesus, because he is the one who is to save his people from their sins" (Matthew 1: 21). Jesus Christ entrusted to the Apostles and to their successors the power to forgive sins, when he said: "As the Father sent me, so I am sending you. Receive the Holy Spirit. For those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven; for those whose sins you retain, they are retained" (John 20: 21-23). The Church forgives sins through the sacraments of Bap-tism and Penance: Baptism re-moves the original sin; Penance removes all other actual sins. Since the Lord forgives all our sins, we must also forgive whole-heartedly our brothers and sisters. As we pray in the Our Father:"Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us" (Mat-thew 6:12).

Article 9: I believe the Holy Catholic Church,

the communion of Saints.

The Church is the assembly of those who believe in Jesus,

who are baptized, and who are in communion with the Pope. The Church has four characteristics, namely:One: There is only one true Church, as Jesus said to Peter: "You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church" (Matthew 16: 18). Holy: The Church is holy because it is the temple of the Holy Spirit.Catholic: The Church is Catholic because it is universal, meaning is present in all nations.Apostolic: The Church is apos-tolic because it is founded on the Apostles.The Church is also called Ro-man because St. Peter died and was buried in Rome, and because Rome is the residence of the Pope. The communion of the saints is the community of all Christians who are in the grace of God, either on earth, Purgatory, and Paradise.

Article 11: I believe the resurrection

of the body.

At the end of the world, our mortal body will be resur-

rected, transformed into a glori-ous body, and united again with its soul. When we die, our body is buried, while our soul passes im-mediately through the particular judgment. Then, it goes straight to Hell, Purgatory, or Paradise. At the end of the world, our mortal body will rise and rejoin our soul. Then body and soul will pass through the fi nal judgment, and will proceed to Hell or to Paradise for all eternity. The resurrection is the act by which God gives eternal life to our mortal bodies, making them glorious bodies, and uniting them again with our soul. Jesus Christ was the fi rst who rose from the dead. As Scripture says: "Christ has been raised from the dead, the fi rst-fruit of all who have fallen asleep" (1 Corinthians 15: 20).

Article 2: I Believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.

Jesus Christ is the second Person of the Blessed Trinity. He is true

God and true man. In him there are two natures, divine and human, but only one divine Person. His divine nature is eternal and was never cre-ated. His human nature is mortal and was conceived in the womb of the Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit. As Scripture says: "The Word was made fl esh, he lived among us" (John 1: 14). The name Jesus means "God Saves" (Matthew 1: 21), because his mission is to save us from sins and to bring us to Paradise. In order to be saved, we must believe in the name of Jesus. As Scripture says: "Of all the names in the world given to men, this is the only one by which we can be saved" (Acts 4: 12). The title Christ in Greek, or Mes-siah in Hebrew, means anointed. Je-sus is the Christ because he is the true prophet, king, and priest. God the Fa-ther revealed Jesus as the Messiah at the Baptism in the Jordan, when he said: "You are my Son, the Beloved; my favor rests on you" (Mark 1: 11).

Article 3: He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of

the Virgin Mary.

Jesus Christ was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, as

declared by the archangel Gabriel: "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will cover you with its shadow. And so the child will be holy and will be called Son of God" (Luke 1: 35). St. Joseph was not the real father of Jesus, but only his foster father. We believe in four marian dog-mas, namely: Mary Mother of God: Mary is the mother of Jesus, Jesus is God, there-fore, Mary is the Mother of God.Perpetual Virginity: Mary remained virgin for the whole life, because she was completely consecrated to God, and also because it was not proper that the Mother of God should have other children.Immaculate Conception: Mary was conceived without the original sin, and was never stained by any sin, in view of her divine motherhood.Assumption: At the end of her life, Mary was assumed body and soul to Paradise, because God did not want the body who conceived Jesus to ex-perience decay.

Article 4: He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was cruci-fied, died and was buried.

The passion of Christ begun in the Garden of Gethsemane,

after the Last Supper. As Jesus was praying with his apostles, Ju-das appeared with many soldiers, and betrayed him with a kiss. Jesus was brought to Pontius Pilate, to have him condemned to death. Pilate realized that Je-sus did nothing wrong, but he was afraid of the people. So he ordered Jesus fi rst to be scourged and crucifi ed. Upon reaching the Golgotha, the soldiers crucifi ed Jesus to-gether with two robbers. At three, Jesus cried out in a loud voice: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46).Then he yielded up his spirit. When it was evening, Joseph of Arimathea, the Virgin Mary and other pious women, took the body of Jesus, wrapped it in a clean shroud, and put it in the tomb. They rolled a large stone across the entrance of the tomb and went away.

Art. 1: I Believe in God, the Father

Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth.

Faith is the theological virtue by which we be-lieve in the existence of God and in his rev-

elation. In order to be saved, we need faith and good works, as St. James said: "Faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead" (James 2:17). The basic truth of our Christian faith is the Dogma of the Blessed Trinity, which declares: "God is one Divine Nature in three Divine Per-sons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit." It was re-vealed by Jesus himself, who said: "Go, there-fore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19). We believe that God created the universe out of nothing and out of love. The Bible begins with this solemn declaration: "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1). God created also the angels, with the purpose of serving him and guarding his creation. But some of them rebelled and were cast into hell. Man is the fi nest creature of God, because he was created "in his image and likeness" (Genesis 1:26).

The New Roman Missal

What is the Roman Missal?

The Roman Missal is the li-turgical book which con-

tains the prayers and the ru-brics for the celebration of the Mass. It should not be called Sacramentary, as different from Lectionary, because it does not contain the rites for all seven Sacraments. The Missal must be faithfully followed, and an in-dividual priest or congregation have no right to alter the rubrics and prayers according to their whims. The rubrics are the in-structions for the celebration of the Mass; the word comes from the Latin rubric, meaning “red ink,” because in the Medieval Missals they were written in red, while the prayers of the Mass to be spoken aloud by the priest were in black. What is the history of the roman missal?

When Jesus celebrated the first Eucharist, on the Last Supper, he used Hebrew for the readings of the Old Testament Scriptures, and Ara-

maic for the prayers and the discourses. After Pentecost, since many pagan converts could not understand He-brew, the Church begun celebrating the Eucharist in Greek. The Old Tes-tament readings and psalms were taken from the Septuaginta, which is the Greek translation of Old Testament, while the New Testament readings and Gospels were written directly into Greek.

During the next three centuries, since majority of the faithful could no longer understand Greek, the Church begun celebrating the Eucharist in Latin. Consequently, St. Jerome (340-420 AD) was commissioned to make the official Latin translation of the Bible, known as the Vulgate, which means “for the ordinary people.” During the Middle Ages there were several Latin Missals, notably the Verona and the Gelasium Sacra-mentaries, with several variants. In 1570, after the Council of Trent, the Church promulgated the first edition of the Roman Missal, also called the Missal of Pius V, or the Tridentine Mass, which was obligatory for the whole Roman Catholic Church. In 1962, the Church published a revised edition of the Roman Missal, also known as the Missal of John XXIII. In 1965, after the Second Vatican Council, the Church issued in Latin the Second Vatican Council Missal, or Missal of Paul VI, or Editio Typica, containing the liturgical revisions mandated by the Council. The new Ro-man Missal had a second edition in 1975, and the third edition in 2002.

Each card is inserted in an elegant leatherette folder and provided with a white envelope. For your order, choose one of the following: 1) SINGLE ORDER: if you need a single Mass Card for a particular person, contact

our office and provide us with the following: Name of the departed, name of the donor, complete mailing address and contact numbers. Orders in Manila will be personally delivered in 24 hours; in the province, in 3 days via express courier.

2) BECOME A MASS CARD PROMOTER: if you are willing to become a Mass Cards Promoter, we will deliver to you the Mass Cards on consignment basis and with additional discount.
