Dear Parents,

A huge thank you to our wonderful PTA who organized an outstanding event on Saturday 19th March. The Health and Safety Carnival not only provided lots of enjoyable activities but also promoted the benefits of a healthy lifestyle as well as important tips for ensuring we stay safe. I know my own son queued up many times to put out the ‘fires’ using the hose and fire extinguisher.

With report cards being sent home next week, I have included an explanation of the grading scale again for your reference.

Construction of the QAS Primary campus (old QF Procurement building) has begun. Please visit https://sites.google.com/a/qasidra.org/qasidra-ps-portal/ to view the latest photographs.

Social media use by children is becoming more and more popular. For this reason, parents need to become familiar with social media sites and how to use them and to monitor their children online. Here are some tips that may help you monitor how your children are using social media:

• Keep the computer in a public part of your home, such as the family room or kitchen, so that you can check on what your kids are doing online and how much time they are spending there.

• Learn about social media technologies first hand. There is simply no better way than to have a profile yourself. It will also enable you to "friend" your children and monitor them online.

• For children of all ages, ask daily: “Have you used the computer and the Internet today?”

• Technology use will vary by age. Pre teens are likely to be using more instant messaging and texting, while teens use those technologies and also networking sites such as Facebook. Ask daily how your family used those tools with questions such as: “What did you write on Facebook today?” “Anyone text you today?”

• Get your children talking about their social media lives if you can just so you know what they are doing.

Be aware of the sites your children are using and whether they are appropriate for their age group. The table below gives some

guidance.

In the Arabic language B, the students of G4 & G5 created their own stories and recorded a video to show their creativity. Students then created a QR code so that anyone can watch the videos by using a QR code reader program or by visiting our QAS “the Arab board of Mr Zayed”.
