The Common and Specific Aamaal for the

Nights of 19th & 21st & 23rd Ramadhan

1To take a bath (ghusl) immediately after Magrib so that the prayers may be performed in a state of

purity.

To offer two Rakats (units) of Namaz, in every Rakat offer Surat-al-fatiha, and Surat-al-Tauhid/ Sure

Ikhlaas (7) seven times, and af ter finishing the prayer 70 times recite: "Astagferullaah Rabbi Wa atoobo elaihe" i.e., "I seek pardon from God and ask for penitence from

Him".

Seeking FORGIVENESS in the early part of the night is very beneficial. Remember your sins & seek

forgiveness by reciting "Astagferullaah Rabbi Wa atoobo elaihe" 100times.

The Holy Qur'an should be opened and placed in front, then one should recite,

(SALAWAT-After this he may beg from Allah whatever he wants).

He should place the Holy Qur'an on his head and say,

O Allah! I appeal to Thee in the name of this Qur'an and the Rooh that was sent along with it, and in the

name of the Momin (believer) whose praise is contained in this Book and Tine obligation that is on them.No one else recognizes the right and truth more than Thee (SALAWAT-After this he should repeat 10

times each):

BEKA YA ALLAH'HO (S.W.T.) (10 times) BE MOHAMMADIN (p.b.u.h.&h.f.) (10 times)

To recite the Ziarat of Imam Hossain (p.b.u.h.). According to Hadis, during laylatul-Qadr an angel

proclaims from the Arsh (Throne) on the Seventh sky, "Allah the Benevolent forgives him, whosoever

performs the Ziarat of the grave of Imam-e-Hossain (p.b.u.h.)."

6 Recite Duas Joshan e kabir & Joshan e Saghir.

7 To offer 100 Raq'ats of Namaz. It has been highly recommended. It is better to recite (after Surat-al-Hamd) 10 times the Surat-al-Tawhid/ Sure Ikh laas (Qul howallah).

8Pray for others - Think of the many people all over the world who are in great difficulty & pray for

them.

9 Give/Arrange for Sadqa/Charity tonight & keep oneself awake throughout these three nights. The vigil

during these nights carries great Sawab (heavenly reward). Dozing even for a short while, may make

one lose this great benefit .

Al-Kaf`amiy has narrated that Imam Zayn al-`abiden (p.b.u.h.) used to say this supplication very

frequently at the Qadr Nights while sitting, standing, genuflecting, and prostrating

;alluhumma inni amsaytulaka `abdan dakhiranO Allah: surely, I am at thisevening Your passive slave luamliku linafsy naf`an wa

luarranI have no control of hurt orgood to myself,

wa luasrifu `anhusuanAnd I cannot drive back anyevil from myself,

ash-hadu bidhalika `alunafse

I testify to so against myself,

wa a`tarifu laka bia`fiquwwate

And to You do I confess of mypowerlessness

wa qillati helateAnd my feebleness fasall `alumuhammadin wa

uli muhammadin

So, (please do) send blessingsupon Muhammad and theHousehold of Muhammad,

wa anjiz le muwa`adtanyAnd fulfill that of which Youhave promised me,

wa jame`a almuminenawal-muminuti

As well as all the believingmen and women,

mina almaghfirati fe hadhihiallaylati

That is Your forgiveness at thisnight.

wa atmim `alayya muutaytany

And accomplish that whichYou have conferred upon me, ,fainne `abduka almiskenualmustakenuFor I am Your slavethe poor,the humble

.aldha`efu alfaqerualmahenu

The weak, the needy, thehumiliated.

alluhumma lutaj`alny

nusiyan lidhikrika femuawlaytane

O Allah: (please) do not makeme negligent of the mention ofYou as regards that which Youhave bestowed upon me,

wa lughufilan liihsunikafemua`taytaneAnd do not make meinadvertent to Your favors tome as regards that which Youhave given me, ,wa luuyisan min ijubatikawa in abtat `anneAnd do not make me despairof Your responding to me

even if such response ispostponed,

fe sarrua awdharruaWhether I be in prosperity oradversity aw shiddatin aw rakhuinOr hardship or comfort ,aw `ufiyatin aw baluinOr well-being or ordeal .aw busin aw na`muaOr misery or bliss

.innaka same`u alddu`uiVerily, You are the Hearer ofprayers.

Specific Aamaal /Duas For

The Night of 19thRamadhan

This is the night , on the morning of which, Imam Ali (p.b.u.h.) was struck by the sword of Ibn Muljim while reciting Fajr prayers in te Kufa

Mosque.

First:

It is recommended to repeat the following invocation one hundred times at the nineteenth night of Ramadhan:

I seek the forgiveness of Allah, my Lord, and I repent before Him.

O Allah: (please do) curse the killers of the Commander of the Believers (Ameer al-Mu'mineen Imam `Ali).

. Third:

It is recommended to recite the followingsupplication:

yadhalladhy kana qabla kulli shayinO He Who has been always therebefore all things, ,thumma khalaqa kulla shayinAnd He then created all things

thumm yabqawa yafnakullu shayinAnd He then stays while allthings vanish.

yadhalladhy laysa kamithlihi shayunO He Whose like in not found atall

wa yadhalladhy laysa fi alssamawatial`ula

O He; neither in the highestheavens,

wa lafi alaradhina alssuflaNor in the lowest layers of theearth

wa lafawqahunna wa latahtahunna walabaynahunna ilhun yu`badu ghayruhuNor above them, nor beneaththem, nor there is between themany god that is worshipped saveHim. ,laka alhamdu hamdan layaqwa `alaihsaihi illaantaTo You be the praise that nonecan count save You

.fasalli `alamuhammadin wa alimuhammadin salatan layaqwa `alaihsaihaillaanta

So, please bless Muhammad andthe Household of Muhammadwith the blessings that none cancount save You.

Forth:

It is recommended to recite the following Dua,

allahumma ij`al fimataqdhy wa fimatuqaddiru

O Allah: (please), among the

matters that You decide and

make,

,mina alamri almahtumiFrom among the inevitableaffairs wa fimatafruqu mina alamri alhakimiAnd from among the wise

matters that You make distinct,

fi laylati alqadriAt the Grand Night mina alqadhai alladhy layuraddu wa la

yubaddalu

From among the act that is

neither rejected nor altered,

an taktubany min hujjaji baytikaalharami

That You decide me to be with

the pilgrims to Your Holy House,

,fi `amy hadhaAt this year almabruri hajjuhumuThose whose pilgrimage is

admitted,

,almashkuri sa`yuhumuWhose efforts are praised ,almaghfuri dhunubuhumuWhose sins are forgiven almukaffari `anhum sayyiatuhumAnd whose offenses and

pardoned.

matters that You decide and

,an tutila `umriDecide to prolong my lifetime ..wa tuwassi`a li fi rizqiAnd to expand my sustenance

Specific Aamaal /Duas For

The Night of 21stRamadhan

Shaykh al-Kulayni, in al-Kafi, has narrated, with a complete series of narrators, that the following supplication, which is also narrated in al-Muqni`ah and al-Misbah

yet with an interruption in the series of narrators, should be said at the twenty-first night of Ramadhan:

At the twenty-first night of Ramadhan, 40 AH., Amir al-Mu'mininpeace be upon him, departed form this life as a martyr.

Besides general Amaals which are mentioned before, it is recommended to recite the following Duas:

yamulija allayli fi alnnahariO He Who causes the night to enterinto the day

wa mulija alnnahari fi allayliAnd causes the day to enter into thenight,

wa mukhrija alhayy minaalmayyti

And brings forth the living from the

dead

wa mukhrija almayyti mina

alhayy

And brings forth the dead from the

living,

yaraziqa man yashau bighayrihisabin

And He Who gives sustenance to

whomever He please without

measure:

;yaallahu yarahmanuO Allah; O the All-beneficent ;yaallahu yarahimuO Allah; O the All-merciful

;yaallahu yaallahu yaallahuO Allah; O Allah; O Allah laka alasmau alhusnaTo You are the Most Excellent

Names,

,wal-amthalu al`uliaAnd the most elevated examples .wal-kibryau wal-alauAnd greatness and bounties

asaluka an tusalliya `alamuhammadin wa alimuhammadin

I beseech You to bless Muhammad

and the Household of Muhammad,

wa an taj`ala asmy fi hadhihi

allaylati fi alssu`adai

And to include my name with the list

of the happiest ones,

,wa ruhy ma`a alshshuhadaiAnd to add my soul to the martyrs wa ihsany fi `illiyyinaAnd record my good deeds in the

most exalted rank

wa isaaty maghfuratanAnd to decide my offense to be

forgiven,

wa an tahaba li yaqinantubashiru bihi qalbi

And to grant me certitude that fills in

my heart

wa imanan yudhhibu alshshkk`anni

And faith that removes dubiosity

from me

wa turdhiyany bimaqasamta liAnd to make me feel satisfied withthat which You decide for me

wa atinafi alddunyahasanatanAnd (please) grant us reward in thisworld

,wa fi alakhirati hasanatanAnd reward in the Hereafter wa qina`adhaba alnnari alhariqiAnd save us from the torment of the

burring Fire,

warzuqny fihadhikraka washukraka wal-rraghbata ilayka

And (also) confer upon us at thisnight Your mentioning, thanking

You, and desiring for You,

.wal-inabata wal-ttawfiqa lima

waffaqta lahu muhammadan wa

ala muhammadin `alayhi wa

`alayhimu alssalamu

And turning to You, and success to

that to which You led Muhammad

and the Household of Muhammad,

peace be upon him and them.

Al-Kaf`amiy has quoted Sayyid Ibn Baqi as saying that it is recommended to say the following supplication at the twenty-first night of Ramadhan:

allahumma salli `ala

muhammadin wa ali

muhammadin

O Allah: (please) bless Muhammad

and the Household of Muhammad,

waqsim li hilman yasuddu `annibaba aljahli

And decide for me forbearance that

blocks the door to ignorance against

me,

wa hudan tamunn bihi `alayyamin kulli dhalalatin

And guidance that You confer upon

me against any item of straying off,

wa ghinan tasudd bihi `annibaba kull faqrin

And affluence that blocks the door to

all poverty against me,

wa quwwatan tarudd biha`annikulla dha`fin

And power due to which You repel

any weakness from me,

wa `izzan tukrimuny bihi `ankulla dhullin

And might with which You honor me

against all humiliation,

wa rif`atan tarfa`uny biha`ankulli dha`atin

And sublimity through which You

exalt me against all humbleness,

wa amnan tarudd bihi `annikulla khawfin

And security through which You

protect me against any fear,

wa `afiyatan tasturuny biha`ankulli balain

And well-being by which You coverme against any ailment,

wa `ilman taftahu li bihi kullayaqinin

And knowledge due to which You

open before me all certitude,

wa yaqinan tudhhibu bihi `annikulla shakkin

And certitude due to which You

remove from me any dubiosity,

wa du`aan tabsuthu li bihi al-

ijabata fi hadhihi allaylati wa fi

hadhihi alssa`ati

And prayer through which You

expand Your response to me at this

very night and at this very hour,

alssa`ata alssa`ata alssa`atayakarimu

This very hour, this very hour, this

very hour, O the All-generous,

wa khawfan tanshuru li bihi kullrahmatin

And apprehension due to which You

spread over me all items of mercy,

wa `ismatan tahulu bihabaynywa bina aldhdhunubi

And shelter due to which You

intervene between my sins and me,

hattaaufliha biha`indaalma`sumina `indaka

So that I shall succeed in the view of

the Infallible ones with You,

.birahmatika yarhamaalrrahimina

Out of Your mercy, O the most

Merciful of all those who show

mercy.

Specific Aamaal /Duas For

The Night of 23rdRamadhan

The twenty-third night of Ramadhan, the last of the Qadr Nights, is more meritorious than the two previous ones, namely the nineteenth and the twenty-first. Many

narrations confirm that it is the Qadr Night at which all affairs are decided. Apart from the general amaal at the three Qadr Nights, there are other specific a'maal for

the 23rd night: It is important to keep awake the entire night

First:

It is recommended to recite Surahs of al-`Ankabut(No. 29) and al-Rum(No. 30). Imam al-Sadiq (p.b.u.h.) is reported to have said, Anyone who recites these two

Surahs at this night will be included with the people of Paradise.

Second:

It is recommended to recite Surah of al-Dukhan(No. 44).

Third:

It is recommended to repeat Surah of al-Qadr Thousand times.

Fourth:

Recite the following famous supplication for the Imam of our time as many times as possible at this night:

allahumma kun liwaliyykaalhujjati abni alhasani

O Allah: (please) be for Your

representative, al-Hujjah, son of al-

Hassan

salawatuka `alayhi wa`alaabaihi

Your blessings be on him and on his

forefathers

fi hadhihi alssa`ati wa fikull sa`atin

now and at all times

waliyyan wa hafian(please, be his) friend and guardian wa qaidan wa nasiranAnd leader and helper wa dalilan wa `aynanAnd guide and watcher

hattatuskinahu ardhakataw`an

So that You shall allow him to prevail on

Your lands willingly

.wa tumatt`ahu fihatawilan

And You shall make him enjoy it for along time.

Fifth:

It is recommended to say the following supplication:

allahumma imdud li fi`umri

O Allah: (please do) prolong my lifetime,

,wa awsi` li fi rizqiAnd expand my sustenance ,wa asihha li jismiAnd make my body healthy

,wa ballighny amaliAnd make me attain my hopes

wa in kuntu mina

alashqyai famhuny mina

alashqyai

And if I am written with the unhappy

ones, (please) erase my name from this

list,

waktubny minaalssu`adai

And write it with the happy ones,

:fainnaka qulta fi kitabika

almunzali `alanabiyyka

almursali salawatuka

`alayhi wa alihi:

For You have said in Your Book that You

revealed to Your missioned Prophet, Your

peace be upon him and his Household:

( )yamhu allahu maiyashau

wa yuthbitu wa `indahu

ummu alkitabi

Allah makes to pass away and

establishes what He pleases, and with

Him is the basis of the Book.

Sixth:

It is recommended to say the following supplication:

allahumma ij`al fimataqdhy wa fimatuqaddiru

O Allah: (please), among the matters thatYou decide and make,

,mina alamri almahtumiFrom among the inevitable affairs wa fimatafruqu mina

alamri alhakimiAnd from among the wise matters thatYou make distinct, fi laylati alqadriAt the Grand Night

mina alqadhai alladhy layuraddu wa layubaddalu

Seventh:

Another Dua for the 23rd night:

O Lord of Lailatul Qadr! (Night of Destiny!) Who has made it better than 1000 months!

O the Lord of the day and the night and the mountains and oceans, the Lord of light and darkness!

O the Lord of the earth and the skies! O the Creator! O the Designer! O Kind! O One Who favors! O Allah Who maintains everything!

O Allah! O the Kindest! O Allah! O the Creator of new things! O Allah! O Allah! O Allah! The best names are for Thee alone. Thou hast

control over all virtues.

I ask Thee to send blessings on Mohammad (p.b.u.h.&h.f.)and his Aal (p.b.u.t). Write my name, in this Night of Qadr, among the

names of the fortunate.

Let my soul keep the company of the martyrs.

Let my good deeds be reckoned with "Illiyeen" (those exalted).

Forgive my sins. Bestow on me such belief that Thou may be nearest to my heart. Give me such understanding that all the doubts

may be removed.

Let me be contended over that which has been ordained for me: Let me have goodness and virtues in this world and the next. Save

me from the glowing fire of Hell. Encourage me towards Tine remembrance with pleasure and to be penitent. Give me all those

virtues that Thou hast given to Mohammad (p.b.u.h.&h.f.)and Aal-e-Mohammad (p.b.u.h.).

Eighth:

Recite Tahajjud near Sahar time

Ninth:

Pray a 100 Rak-at Salaat as under

In every Rak-at, after the recitation of Soorah Al Faatihah, recite Soorah Al Ikhlaas 10 times.
