ZL1 LID INSTALLATION PROJECT TUTORIAL

2ND Generation Cadillac CTS-V (2009-2015)

Q&A / FYI

1. Why change my OEM LSA lid to the ZL1 (Camaro) LSA lid? A. The ZL1 lid provides better cooling over the stock CTS-V LSA lid. This claim has also been

backed by GM. The ZL1 “brick” or intercooler provides more efficient airflow, resulting in a smaller pressure drop across it. This translates into almost one pound more boost in the plenum as well.

B. You should expect to see approximately 15 rwhp and rwtq gain. Below is a Dyno graph showing before and after installing the ZL1 Lid, courtesy of “flyingv” on ctsvowners.com

2. Where can I purchase the Zl1 Lid and required parts / accessories? A. The GM Part number for the ZL1 Lid is 12622236

B. The ZL1 lid can be purchased from any GM dealer. The average price is around $300 USD.

At the time of writing this tutorial, www.gmpartsheadquarters.com is providing free shipping to CTS-V owners using promotion code “CTSVOWNR” (letter E intentionally left out).

C. You can acquire fittings and hoses (for those of you that decided to tap your lid) from the following locations. Keep in mind many other parts will work but this is the most common.

a. Summit Racing - Hose Ends

i. Summit Part Number - SUM-220087B ii. Quantity two (2) iii. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-220087b

b. Summit Racing - AN to NPT Adapter Fittings

i. Summit Part Number - SUM-220047B ii. Quantity two (2) iii. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-220047b

c. Summit Racing - Braided Nylon Hose

i. Summit Part Number - SUM-240010B ii. Quantity one (1) iii. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-240010b

3. Required modifications to allow room for the ZL1 lid. A. The ZL1 lid is taller than the stock CTS-V lid. It WILL hit your hood. You must complete

one of the two following options: a. Option 1 (Recommended) – Lid Milling

i. You can have your lid professionally milled down on the top. This will not cause any performance loss and allows for no other modification/cutting to the car to be required for the lid to fit.

ii. Chris Shirey (well known in the CTS-V Community for milling lids) can have your lid milled for only $85 (includes shipping back).

iii. You can contact Chris at [email protected] for more information.

iv. See photo below for example of lid after being milled.

b. Option 2 – Modify Hood (Cut Hood) i. You can cut a section of the underside of your hood off to allow room for the

top of the lid to not hit the hood. 1) Step 1. Remove under hood liner 2) Step 2 – Cut section of hood off as seen in the photos below

(photos courtesy of “strapp” on ctsvowners.com) 3) Replacing the underside hood liner is optional. Most prefer to

replace it.

It'll pull out. You can see in this pic the lid is propped out. Unclip the two hose clamps in the back of the car and carefully remove the two coolant lines.

Step 6 - Place new ZL1 lid on. You should not have any fitment issues. If you do then it’s not seated properly.

At this time, you should also reattach all sensors.

Step 9 - After all hoses are reattached, start your car. Do not be alarmed if you see some smoke (evaporated coolant) burning off at this point as you most likely spilled some coolant onto the engine during the process.

Step 10 - While your car is still running, unscrew the coolant reservoir tank (see arrows in photo below) and let the system burp out any air bubbles. If you have a Norcall HX Tank (ice box) installed previously on your car, you can skip this step. You have now completed the installation.
