Q400 Multi-Role aiRcRaft
The Q400 Multi-Role aircraft, outfitted by Bombardier’s preferred supplier, Conair, is
a special mission variant of the high-performance Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft
operated today in more than 40 countries.
Besides sharing all the capabilities of the standard platform (maximum range and altitude,
typical cruise speed, etc.), the fully certified Q400 Multi-Role aircraft is equipped with
mission-specific features, from fire retardant tanks to life support systems, to meet the
diverse and demanding needs of our customers.
The Q400 Multi-Role aircraft can be tailored for firefighting, cargo transport, passenger
transport, disaster relief, and medical evacuation. Swapping in and out systems is easy.
If necessary, an aircraft already prepared for one mission can be rapidly reconfigured.
Q400 Multi-Role aircraft is a sturdy and dependable platform. The aircraft has logged
nearly seven million flight hours and transported more than 400 million passengers
worldwide, maintaining a dispatch reliability rate of over 99.5%.
Fitted with available fuselage protection, the Q400 aircraft is able to operate on short
airfields and unpaved runways making it the ideal platform for special missions. It is
also equipped with an Auxiliary Power Unit for greater operational flexibility and less
interference with ground handling operations.
Finally, the Q400 aircraft also has a low operating cost and small environmental footprint,
making this modern turboprop aircraft an even more attractive option. Q400 Multi-Role aiRcRaft - PassengeR tRansPoRt
The Q400 Multi-Role aircraft can be configured to accommodate up to 90 passengers in a four-abreast single class or dual-class seating configuration in VIP or economy class. The Q400 Multi-Role Passenger Transport aircraft is capable of a maximum cruise speed of 360 knots and has a maximum range of 1,114 nautical miles.
the Q400 Multi-Role aiRcRaft – fiRefighting (aiR tankeR)
The Q400 Multi-Role aircraft air tanker configuration is designed for fast and efficient response. Its Retardant Delivery System (RDS) tank has a payload capacity of more than 22,000 pounds (sufficient for 2,640 U.S. gallons or nearly 10,000 liters of water). This allows the air tanker to deliver greater loads per sortie than its main competitors.
In addition, the RDS is equipped with a standard single point filling receptacle on both sides of the tank, allowing for a fill rate of 500 U.S. gallons per minute. As a result, the tank can be filled in less than six minutes. The RDS tanks are external to the aircraft, eliminating the risk of corrosive retardant spillage.
The computer-controlled RDS allows the pilot to select the drop coverage level from 0.5 to 8 U.S. gallons per 100 ft2 by varying the drop flow rate and volume. The drop pattern can be kept constant regardless of the volume of retardant remaining in the tank.
The Q400 Multi-Role air tanker’s top speed of 360 knots allows it to reach its destination faster than most competing aircraft with its two 5071 SHP engines delivering superior overall performance. The aircraft is pressurized allowing it to fly at high altitudes while reducing fuel consumption.

the Q400 Multi-Role aiRcRaft - Medical evacuation
Designed for the medical evacuation of civilian and military patients, the Q400 Multi-Role medevac aircraft can carry both single- and stacked-stretcher life support systems. It can also accommodate a mixed arrangement of stretchers and seats for patients and passengers.
In its medevac configuration, the Q400 Multi-Role aircraft is equipped with a patient loading and unloading system, intensive care station and incubator. In addition, the cabin has a compressed air system, medical oxygen supplies, electrical outlets for patient monitoring equipment, overhead IV hooks, enhanced lighting, easy-clean floors, and storage space for medical supplies.
The aircraft can be outfitted with cabin Wi-Fi and SATCOM internet connectivity enabling downlink of patient information in real-time.
the Q400 Multi-Role aiRcRaft - caRgo tRansPoRt
The Q400 Multi-Role aircraft has a cabin volume of 2,740 ft2. When configured for cargo transport, the aircraft is capable of carrying 19,900 pounds (9,026 kilograms) of equipment.
The loading and unloading is facilitated by a cargo roller loading system for pallets and containers and a bulk loading section with tie-down nets. The aircraft also has a large aft cargo door, facilitating the loading and unloading of different-sized containers and enabling better use of cargo space. The aircraft’s baseline environmental controls (heating, cooling, and pressurization) are maintained within the cargo compartment.
The cargo transport configuration is comprised of a new floor suspension and structure, liner supports, floor boards and floor protection panels. In compliance with Class E freighter requirements, the cabin is fitted with a smoke detection system, a fire barrier at the front and a means to shut off the ventilating airflow to and within the cargo compartment. A lighting system is also installed in the cargo compartment.
