Q3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? IPC is one of the earliest published magazine companies. It first published in 1853 with a magazine called the Field. When it was launched it was soon to become the largest newspaper in Europe. After that in the late 1800's, more lifestyle magazines such as Horse & Hound and Shooting Times were created. These were made for white, upper class males who would have these hobbies and could afford to buy the titles. However, I am focussing on a magazine that was published in the 20 th century. IPC has published a very popular music magazine called NME which is now the most popular musical magazine nationally. It was first published 1952 and then became the first major UK music title to get its own internet site- nme.com, which then later on became Europe's most popular music website. NME is a rock/punk focussed genre with a less targeted audience for white adults, although that is their bigger audience, showing the diversity now in the magazine industry. As my magazine is focussing on how diverse the music industry should be, especially in the pop punk genre, using an institution that is as knowledgeable as IPC would benefit the production of my magazine, especially after its success with NME. Bauer has also had a lot of success with music magazines, producing Kerrang!, Q, Empire and even radio stations, meaning advertisement would be easy to do for a new music magazine.

However, I am focussing on a magazine that was published in the 20th century.

It was founded in 1875 entered the UK with the launch of Bella magazine in 1987 and became Britain's third largest publisher. Their music magazine Q also has become large enough to have its own award show called Q Awards showing how widely read it is. Their magazine, Kerrang! Is a widely known rock magazine which also has its own radio station and its target audience is for teenagers and young adults and is cheaper because of it, which is similar to my magazine. The layout is also quite similar to mine, the bright and dark contrasting colours used and the style of font and is quite diverse with its artists whilst sticking to its genre.Out of these two magazine industries I would pick Bauer because it will have the radio publicity and also shares my magazine style, even if IPC has more experience and has been around a little longer. Kerrang! Also knows how to write for a teenage audience for a music magazine so I believe it would be better for producing my magazine.
