7 The question regarding renal failure is not precise. Renal failure sometimes requires differentamount of fluids. Depends on patient and kind of renal failure..

4/13/2021 10:04 PM

8 renal failure: depends on urine output; general ward: depends on severity of illness 4/13/2021 1:07 PM

26 We don’t treat postcardiac surgery patients 3/31/2021 1:50 PM

4 We do not have balanced solutions 4/13/2021 10:04 PM

5 We currently cannot use balanced solutions as a standard, due to hospital restrictions onproduct. We do "make up" the fluid bags standard mixing dextrose bags with same electrolites, but our Chloride is still too high. We aim to change this in the next few months, both in PICUand the general ward.

1 For patient with severe diabetic keto acidosis, in the first hours ( 2) I used to cristalloideisotonic unbalanced and after a fluid adapted with electrolytes

5/10/2021 12:22 PM

2 For diabetic ketoacidosis, in case of hyperchloremia, we switch to hypotonic solution (glc +NaCl) with endocrinologist agreement

5/5/2021 4:33 AM

3 Isotonic balanced also used 4/14/2021 8:07 PM

5 DKA protocol under review 4/13/2021 1:07 PM

6 Again, aim to change soon to balanced for all. Only DKA has a different fluid protocol to therest of patients.

4/13/2021 11:51 AM

7 in DKA the choice of solution will depend on the progress of the situationper guideline (5%glucose with added 5,8% NaCl at least to half normal depending on decrease of blood glucose)

25 Q21 - depends on the stage of illness. I answered the question regarding our strategy onadmission to the PICU, not for 24-48 hours. For example, we admit cardiac patients and givethem fluids, but start feeds in 6 hours. 35 The comments I have already made regarding type of PICU (non cardiac), which is why I didnot respond to post cardiac surgery questions. In the question on what type of fluids we takeinto account when we calculate intake for fluid balance, it is unclear whether we are meant toselect only the fluids that we take into account when we are planning intake for each day, orthe final intake in the fluid balance (which can be higher due to unexpected need for boluses, transfusions, etc...).
