Welcoming Environment The school clearly welcomes parent involvement within the school setting. The office staff are friendly and go out of their way to provide assistance. In hearing some friends' comments about the culture at other schools, I appreciate even more the positive social culture at Broxton. The office staff & admin seem familiar with many of the kids and make a point of saying hello. This demonstrates good social skills to the students. Some things I appreciate is the emphasis on spreading kindness, and awarding it. It’s so great to see as it helps shape and mould the kids as they get older The new playgrounds. Devices at school. I feel that in the youngergrades, devices should be left at home andthose that are brought secured until the endof the day. I don't believe children need to beplaying video games during recess plus how iswhat they are looking at being monitored??

I appreciate how awesome the teachers are.Their genuineness and sincere considerationfor all the kids is obvious.

French Immersion Love the French immersionprogram and the teacher's are excellent.

One thing that is appreciated iscommunication, There is no lack ofcommunication within the school communityIt is important because it lets all the parents/guardians know exactly what is going on in theschools, from school meetings to teacherconcerns.

I appreciate the great communication fromthe both the office and the teachers. I likeknowing in advance of things coming up;teachers sharing of learning foci from the weekhelp me to connect school learning with home.

I appreciate that children are recognized forcaring and kind behaviours. Fosters skillsoutside the classroom. My daughter is veryproud to have been selected from herclassroom.

I appreciate the outdoor time that my childexperiences while at school. Fresh air andtime spent outside is very valuable for one'shealth and well-being.

Wonderful teachers It is clear that themajority of the teachers are truly invested inour children’s education.

Behavioural children affecting the educationof the group It’s affecting the quality ofeducation and amount of time each student isreceiving from the teacher. Setting a negativeexample for others

Appreciate the teachers Concerned aboutfunding for ecs. I’ve heard that there’s possibletalk of the pig program not being governmentfunded

Movies and tv shows being shown at lunchhour This is a time when students should beengaged in conversations with their peers andteacher

My son is a new student and his experiencehas been very positive. It's important becausehe has a very positive attitude towards schooland I definitely want that to continue.

We honestly really love the school I haveopinions but overall we are really very happywith Broxton and we love listening to ourlittles speaking French and learning so well

Communication We have been extremelyhappy with the amount of communicationreceived both friend teachers and office staff.

Jr high option classes need improving Thingslike: Woodworking, visual communication, bikerepair, sewing, outdoor ed, computerprogramming, accounting, nutrition & mealplanning, etc.

I appreciate the care and dedication I see inaction everytime I drop off, pick-up orvolunteer to assist the teachers with fieldtrips It is important to me that my son be acaring environment were he feels safe

Budgets for the school keep being cut short.Instead of improvements to the school, wesee things just going down hill. The school isold and we see there is no intention to have itrenewed a bit. Even the DELF diplomas feesare being cut as "there is no budget"??

Great teachers who engage students like Mr.Turcotte (last year) would be great mentors.Make good use of inhouse experts to mentor.

Home School Communication is excellentAppreciate the time taken to communicatewith home

I appreciate the support from my son'steacher It ensures I have confidence in who isteaching him

I believe there should be a list of availableolder students who are excelling in theirstudies and are available for paid tutoring.French is a particular set of skills and it’s noteasy or parents of young students who need alittle extra help to find qualified tutors.

Not enough is being done about studentsbullying and bad behaviors. Kids need to feelsafe at school, and right now they don't. Theamount of disruptions due to behaviors thatare being tolerated is unacceptable.

STOP the bullying instead of having them"hang" at the office all day. TEACH theparents and their child how instead ofrationalizing with them.

I love the fusion assemblies. It’s such a greatway to bring the school together and create asense of community.

Special needs, OT, learning difficulties, weakreaders in a regular classroom go underdiagnosed and under assisted. Strugglingstudents stay struggling

Amazing support staff The ECS coordinator(Heather) has been fantastic

We are concern about the teachers rotation, every year we seems to have teachers comingand going (this has happened in the lastcouple of years) This doesn't help with the kidsstability and gives us uncertainty for myyounger kids that still have few grades ahead.

I appreciate that my child has a Frenchimmersion school to go to in our city I’m bornin Quebec and it’s important that my child isbilingual like my family

I appreciate that the school is doing greatwith my son who has not only a disability buta chromosome disorder Because my son needsstructure and have people around to help him

Love the BOKS program and all the timespent preparing for the children. Mme Patti isa saint to have running this program.

There’s too much non educational screentime. If screen time is needed why not put ondocumentaries or something educational. Ifeel there’s too much wasted time in classes.Especially with non educational screen time. There’s no need when there are so manyeducational option

Learning is Uninspired My Grade Onedaughter spends most of her time doingworksheets and colouring. Think outside thebox to make kids excited about school andlearning.

Movie time There seems to be a lot of non-educational movies played, often at lunch. Ithink our children need to spend this timesocializing with each other.

I appreciate school trying to do fundraisingand keep it clean, but school needsmodernization

school and Parkland division should changereport cards to actual grades, at least for gr 5-9 or 7-9

Mr. Parker is fantastic. Finally this year to feellike my child is getting a teacher who iswilling to work so hard for his students I amjust so grateful

Concerns I have are the lack of security .Parents and people can just walk in with outchecking in the front desk when picking uotheir kids. Itimportant as it would just take 1wrong person to take a child for it to bechanged. The side door should be locked andpasses given to parents

I like all the extra curricular activities andthat different staff are involved. Morestudents have relationships withmore/different teachers.

Have weekly spelling tests year round. I thinkit should be a staple in each grade. I spendmore time teaching them spelling then theteachers do.

I wish more communication came home aboutHOW my child is doing at school and wherehe needs assistance/is struggling. We wouldbe able to help him right away rather thanfinding out when the report card has come andthe term is over.

I think there needs to be a different way todeal with high energy and aggressivechildren. Rewarding bad behaviour simplyisn’t realistic. the world isn’t like that and ourminds are being educated, so it seems likebackwards thinking to teach bad behaviourgets fingers painted

I’m concerned about the physical building ofthe school. It’s very dated, paint is chipped andI’m concerned about our students beingexposed to harmfull stubstances such asasbestos, etc.

I appreciate Seesaw updates showing whatmy child is up to while they are at school. Thisallows me to understand what types ofexperiences they are involved in while I amaway at work.

Mr. Parker has been a fantastic teacher to mychild. He includes subjects not normallytaught in school which is great. It is importantto open minds, even for kids that are only 8. Hisstyle of teaching is out of the box and we loveit.

Class sizes are too large. They start in smallerclass for kindergarten and jump in size for thenext few grades My child is struggling withless assistance and less time with their teacherand increased noise.

I really appreciate the music program MmeBrophy and Mme Iampen have put together!

My children report that when there is asubstitute, very little active learning iscompleted. The Sub's are on their phone, orthe students are given busy work. this is not agood use of their time, or fiscal resources.

I love that Mme Saulnier has started a Girl'sClub!

The school is in desperate need of majorrepairs and updating. It’s just evident that it’stime for updates and repair

There should be a school zone in front ofBroxton. Even though there is a fence thereare many places a young child can get outonto the road Isn’t our children’s safety apriority? Why is it so hard to get it changed to a30km school zone?

While the premise behind the FusionAssemblies is positive, they lack in any truedepth or meaning. Can we provide concreteexamples of what students are doing toreceive the recognition? Seems some teachersjust work through their class lists.

I would like to see more parents aware of thebroxton parents page on fb page toencourage interactions. I am always bumpinginto parents who didn’t know one thing oranother was happening or that volunteerswere needed. good to encourage interaction

The way some Teachers talk to the kids, someeven yell at them, I understand some kids area handful but that doesn't mean you can yellat them.

Variety in Options for Junior High StudentsAppreciate that students have choice

I appreciate school trying to fill in teacherpositions but concerned of the highestrotation in the last 2 years, more investigationshould be done as for why great long timeteachers decided to leave and why newteachers don't want to stay

I don’t understand the fundraisingorganization. Like the spellathon. I just didn’tunderstand how it worked. Nor many of theparents and teachers. An initiative like thatshould be more... comprehensive so as toexcite the kids

Kids achieving proficient /exemplary in theirsubjects need to be challenged more on aregular basis. Time is spent on the otherstudents. Kids achieving at this level need tobe challenged to keep them interested. It's notfair if they aren't receiving the same attentionat their level.

School Supplies I have had to replace schoolsupplies twice this year that should have lastedall year. There are reports of kids stealing &breaking other kids stuff

Frustration-The number of movie days. Auseful tool in moderation With the increasingconcerns of screen time I would like to see lesswhile at school.

Safety and Security of School Broxton is theone of the only schools in PSD where anyonecan walk right into the school withoutidentifying themselves or checking in at theoffice.

School Bathrooms are in Disrepair The schoolbathrooms often have non-functioning dryers, are dirty and in disrepair, and have a terribleodour. An update is much needed.

Bussing The school needs to continue toadvocate for better solutions. There are toomany busses arriving 1/4 to 1/2 full at theschool. Bus overflow issues.

I would love Broxton to offer full timekindergarten, even if it came at a cost. Startschildren in the "full day" routine early andallows them to learn those skills prior toentering grade 1.

Love BOKS My children don’t like earlymornings but once I mention BOKS they are upand ready. Thanks for such a great program.

The classrooms seem dirty and dusty. Alsoschool looks like it’s falling apart at places. Mychild gets sick often and allergies flare up andit’s worrisome for safety

Communication between the office andstudents can be improved. If I leave a messageat the office for my child, I expect the staff toensure it is communicated. Not just announcedover the loud speaker, where there is noguarantee a child heard it in the noisy hallway.

Maybe bigger lockers for grades 1&2 Inwinter time after recess, the kids should beallowed to hang their wet outside clothes.

Students going into high school may not be asprepared as they could be to meet thedemands of written English - especially if theyintent to go onto university. Spelling appearsto be an especially weak area.

Having a bad and a good list on the board.Teachers should implement positive teaching, exposing the kids in front of the hole class isnot .

Concern - Bussing (Late pick up, drop off, busdrivers who are rude to kids) I have hadseveral issues with the transportation andhave not been able to resolve with ParklandTransportation Services. Poor communication.

There needs to be more support to helpteachers expand their skills so they're notyelling at the students, or so burned out thatthey're on their pho nes.

The school is old and I worry about harmfulsubstances like asbestos or mould. In thekitchen there is a strong smell of gas, theymasked it with fan Our kids spend 6.5 hours aday breathing the air in that building. It shouldbe inspected. The gas is also a fire danger andthe leak should be fixed

I feel like there needs to be more familyoriented evenings throughout the year. Iknow other schools have fun family dancesand student art shows. I think it wouldencourage pride in the school and more familyinvolvement. I can’t volunteer yet but I’d loveto be more active in the school.

No concerns at this time Happy with changesmade in regards to student behaviourespecially on the playground.

Great new playground! Could use less muddyspots where there is no grass growingsomething else could be out there? My child’sstuff comes home very wet and muddy.

Admin Follow Up and Evaluation of AllTeachers Needed Admin should spend time inall classrooms. My daughter’s teacher is“experienced”, yet many outdated methods ofpunishment/reward are used.

Communication Has Improved, but StillNeeds Work Frequent errors, last-minutemessages, broken links, etc. can be veryfrustrating

I would like to see more at Christmasconcerts. Maybe a some short acting to goalong with the singing I work so it’s hard tospend time at the school but I try my best andconcerts can be so much fun to watch if therewas more to them.

Kids that are integrated into mainstreamaren’t treated the same as the other students. They get special treatment and don’t get thesame discipline Integration is to teach kidshow life in the real world is yet they’re givenspecial treatment. They don’t get heldaccountable for their behaviour

Concern - Communication from Admin whenchild sent to the office There have been acouple of instances when our child has landedin the office and we are not made aware. This isa concern and would like reviewed.

I’m concerned that the teachers don’t gettested for their French grammar to teach atBroxton. I hear many errors in basic verbconjugations etc. Students need to learngrammar properly. It’s fundamentalknowledge. Teachers should have moresupport to perfect their grammar.

More spelling tests. This helps them learn howto write and sound words out. There are manyexceptions in the French language that justmerits memorizing the words.

I do have some concerns over screen time atlunch My son comes home without havingeaten lunch because he got distracted by thevideo playing on the wall

The Parking lot is not getting cleared after bigsnowfalls-especially when no buses runningMakes life difficult on mandatory drop off day.Other business seem to get theirs plowedthose mornings

Students speaking in English in the hallwaysStudents should be practicing linguistic skillsoutside of classroom

Had a meeting with my sons teacher and VPand was told that they would create cards formy son to remember things and that didn'toccur. He is struggling with possible ADHDand we were looking for help.

Lack of Willingness to Coach/After SchoolActivities by Staff For some students theability to participate in sports is the thing thatkeeps them engaged at school.

I'm disappointed in the lack of out-of-schoolfield trips for Kindergarten students. Theyneed those experiences, too. If Kinderg. classesin other schools are going on them, why are thestudents not?

My child does not have the same sense ofbelonging and pride in her school that sheused to have. It is discouraging for my childand it negatively affects many aspects of hereducation.

Would like to see a supervisor on the eastside of the school in the mornings and afterschool. Many students enter the buildingalong that side Safety for the kids andcommunity relations with the adjacentneighbours.

One award for one student at the end of theyear Principal had teachers choose onestudent from their class as being anoutstanding citizen at end of year. Eitherrecognize multiple talents, or none

There are many great and dedicated teachers,I do get concerned that focused learningseems spread out with so many field trips, andspecial days. I'm not convinced there is enoughvalue add, when you look at the volume overthe year.

Many teachers bribe or reward the studentswith candy/treats for different reasons suchas cleaning up or finishing a project. I don’tagree with this My kids (grades 2 &3) don’t geta lot of junk food and I don’t appreciate themgetting it at school daily. It fine when there’s acelebration somwtim

There have been times when our son informsus that he got sent to the office, yet we neverreceived a call. It is difficult for us to knowwhat happened so we can take appropriatecorrective action without being informedabout why and what was discussed.

Bussing Bus was consistently late dropping myson off to school, despite several complaintsthere was no action to remedy the problem

Auto Absence Reporting Needs Fine TuningTwice I have been called during work meetingsto be notified my child is absent, when he facthe was attending a school-sanctioned event.Fix this!

My daughter has been at the school for 2years and I volunteer and I still have aboutzero understanding of the layout. There areso many random rooms In the event of anemergency I wouldn’t have the slightest ideawhere tomgonas a volunteer. That could bedangerous

PSD’s transportation policy is unrealistic.Losing instructional days because busses arenot running sets unrealistic expectation forstudents The rest of the world carries on.

Perhaps parents, instead of driving theirchildren to the front doors, can drop them offa block or two away, and let them walk therest of the way. Most children in grade 4 andup are capable of doing so safely, helping toreduce the congestion at the front of theschool and along Mcleod Ave.

I appreciate the school being inclusive butconcerned of some lgbt talks and exposurefor the younger grades

I hope Miss Chelsea’s class is moved toMillgrove school for September. The highschool parking lot is dangerous. People drivingthe wrong way through no entrance waysduring busy times of day. Very limited parking.

I’m dissapointed that the grade 9 Quebec wasdramatically changed without prior parentsinput. Due to the changes my child will notattend grade 9 Quebec school trip

For the most part I enjoy Broxton. Mychildren have been there for 5 years now. Allthe years before this we had great earlyEducation teachers but th is year I am not asimpressed with them. I think the parking isawful and very frustrating and I would love fulltime kindergarten.

my daughter attends Miss Chelsea’s class inthe high school. Her team does an awesomejob. My daughter likes Chelsea and her team.

I think that parking is an issue, I feel likemaybe an option would be that the staff parksacross the street at the church. Perhaps thestaff could park there as they aren’t comingand going with young kids as often as familiesare.
