PROSPECTUS
The Yoga courses offered in affiliation with Bangalore University for
Academic Year 2018-19 are as follows:
1. P G. Diploma in Yoga Studies – one year (2 semesters)
Eligibility (Qualification): Any degree from a recognised University.
2. Certificate Course in Yoga Studies – 6 months (1 semester)
Eligibility: The candidate who is of 18 years age and has qualification
minimum PUC.
Syllabus and other details / conditions as stipulated by Bangalore
University are given.
Last date for submission of application is 15th Oct. 2018.
Classes commence from 1st Nov. 2018.

Instructions for Submission of Application for Admission
1. Application can be had from PSSA Office at the above address
or at Pyramid Valley or it can be downloaded from Website:
pssacademy.org. Prospectus also can be downloaded from the
same web site.
2. All the fields should be filled. Fields Not Applicable, should be
written as “N.A.”. Incomplete Application is liable to be rejected.
(All fillings in CAPITAL Letters in English only)
3. Photostat copies of all certificates (as stipulated in Application
form) duly attested by Gazetted officer should be enclosed.
4. The Application shall accompany Demand Draft or Cheque on
the name of PSS Academy payable at Bengaluru or cash for an
amount of Rs.300.00 (Rupees Three Hundreds only). No
outstation Cheque except Multi City Cheque will be accepted.

5. Admission process will be carried out at PSS Academy Office.
6. All original certificates shall have to be produced / submitted at
the time of Admission. The original certificates will be returned to the
candidates on verification by Bangalore University. The course fees,
hostel fees and fees payable to The University shall also be paid at
the time of Admission. The mode of payment shall be by Demand
Draft or Cheque as said in item (4) above. Cash will not be
accepted.
7. Last date of receipt of Applications in PSS Academy office is 15-
10-2018.

Instructions for Submission of Application for Admission
1. Application can be had from PSSA Office at the above address or

iii) Proceedings of the meeting of the Committee of the Academic Council
held on 5.8.98
PREAMBLE
The Proceedings at Ref (i) recommended unanimously the institution
and starting of Certification and P G Diploma courses in Yoga in the
University together with detailed syllabi and regulations. The proceedings at
Ref (ii) recommended institution of the said courses. However it was decided
that the syllabi be restructured in the light of the observation made by the
member of the Faculty. Accordingly the syllabi were restructured after
discussions with some more experts in the concerned areas and incorporating
the suggestions from the members of the science Faculty. The matter was
discusses at length in the meeting of the committee of the Academic Council
on 5.8.98 where a few more suggestions were made. Now the syllabi are
finally restructured keeping in view all the above and placed before the
Academic Council for
I. Recommendation to institute the said courses in the University, and
II. Approval of the restructures syllabi and regulations

1. CERTIFICATE COURSE IN YOGA
1. REGULATIONS
a) This is regular full-time course of 6 month duration with 20 hours of
instruction (Theory + Practice) per week.
b) Any person who has attained 18 years of age and has a minimum
qualification of PUC is eligible to seek admission.
c) The minimum attendance requirement for completion of the course is
80% of the total number of classes.
d) There will be two theory papers, one practical paper and a project
report to be prepared by the students.
e) The intake will be 60.
2. SYLLABUS FOR YOGA CERTIFICATE COURSE
PAPER I: THEORY OF YOGA
Introduction – Yogic heritage, meaning of Yoga, Yoga as a science,
relevance of yoga to modern society. Theoretical background of Yoga.
Different streams of Yoga and their unity in diversity. Jnana Yoga, Karma
Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Raja Yoga
Concepts of body and mind – psychosomatic nature of diseases.
Concept of Mantra, Health & Yoga, and yoga therapy. Yoga as a way life.
PAPER II: YOGA PRACTICE
Hata Yoga – Basic Practices of Yogasanas - Padmasana,
Swastikasana, Siddhasana, Vajrasana, Bhaderasana, Virasana, Trikonasana,
Mayurasana, Bhujangasana, Sarvangasana, Shirsasana, Shavasana, Surya
Namaskara. Rule, technique and benefits from yogasanas.
Kriyas as purification practices, Neti – Sutra- Jala Netru. Dhauti,
Basti, Nauli, Kapalabhati and Trataka Kriyas –Technique an advantages of
these Kriyas.
Pranayama – meaning and benefits. Mantra, Sparsha, Mudra and
Sukha Pranayama-Rules and technique, Bhastrika and Bandha.
Techniques of teaching yoga. Application of yoga. Reputed Yoga
Kendras and their activity.

4. SCHEME OF EXAMINATION
I. Theory Paper I (3 hrs) 100 marks
II. Theory Paper II (3 hrs) 100 marks
III. Practicals (demonstrations and viva voce) 100 marks
IV. Project work and report 100 marks
V. Periodic internal assessment and Attendance 100 marks
Total 500 marks
5. PASSING REQUIREMENT
A candidate shall be declared to have passed the examination if he/she
secures not less than 40% of the maximum in each of the five components
mentioned at sl. No. 4 above and 45% in the aggregate. A candidate not
securing at least 40% in internal assessment has to seek readmission to the
course.
6. REAPPEARANCE FACILITY
A candidate who fails in a theory paper has to appear for both the
theory papers. A candidate failing only in the practical has to reappear only for
that paper and similarly in project work. The reappearance facility is limited to
a maximum of 3 consecutive examinations following the completion of the
course.
7. CLASSIFICATION OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES:
Successful candidates securing not less than 60% of the aggregate
marks shall be declared to have passed the examination in FIRST CLASS
provided they have passed the examination in every component in the first
appearance. Candidates securing 50% and above but below 60% of the
aggregate marks shall be declared to have passed the examination in SECOND
CLASS. Other successful candidates shall be declared to have passed the
examination in PASS CLASS.

REGULATION PERTAINING TO P.G. DIPLOMA
IN YOGA STUDIES
1. REGULATIONS
a. Admission Requirements: A candidate who has a degree in any
faculty of this University or any recognized University in India or
abroad shall be eligible for admission to the P.G. Diploma in Yoga
Studies. Preference may be given to those who have completed
Certificate Course in Yoga Studies of any recognized University
successfully.
A candidate should be medically fit and of good character. Medical
Fitness Certificate from the Bangalore University Health Centre or
any Government medical officer must be produced at the time of
admission.
No one who is in employment shall be allowed to join the Course
without taking leave from his / her institution / office from the date of
commencement of the academic session to the conclusion of theory /
practical examinations.
Student who are studying in a P.G. Course or any other course are also
eligible for admission to the course.
b. This is an Add on course extending over TWO SEMESTERS.
c. A Student shall be considered to have completed the course if he / she
have attended not less than 80% of the class during the course.
d. The intake will be 30.

2. SCHEME OF EXAMINATION
In each semester there will be three theory papers of 100 marks each and
two practical of 100 marks each. In the second semester, students will have
to undergo supervised practicum and submit a case study/dissertation.
Note: There will be continuous internal assessment during the course

3. BOARD OF EXAMINERS AND VALUATION
1. There shall be a Board of Examiners for scrutinizing and approving
the question papers and scheme of valuation.
2. About 50% of the examiners appointed for setting of question papers
and valuation work in each semester shall be external.
3. There shall be double valuation for all theory papers, dissertation of
which one will be an internal and one will be an external examiner.
The average of the marks awarded by the internal and external
examiners shall be taken as the final award for that particular paper.
4. In cases of a difference of 20% or more in the marks awarded by the
internal and the external valuator, the script shall be referred to the
third valuator( who shall be an external) and the average of the nearest
two shall be considered for the award of marks in that paper.
5. Challenge Valuation
A student who desires to challenge the marks awarded to him/her for
any paper, may do so by submitting an application along with the
prescribed fee to the Registrar (Evaluation) within 15 days after the
announcement of the results. Such candidates shall be provided with a
Xerox copy of the answer book for that paper, after concealing the
name of the valuators.

6. The answer scripts for which challenge valuation is sought shall be
sent to another external examiner. The average of the marks awarded
in the challenge valuation shall be the final award.
Classification of Successful Candidates
1. Minimum for a pass in each paper shall be 40% (Exam proper and
internal assessment put together) and 50% in the aggregate for each
semester. There shall be no separate minima either for exam proper,
internal assessment or for viva voce examination.
2. Successful candidates in each semester shall be classified as follows:
First Class: Those who obtain 60% and above of the aggregate
marks.
Second Class: Rest of the successful candidates who obtain 50% and
above of the aggregate marks.
Provision for Repeaters
1. A candidate is allowed to carry all the previous unclear papers to the
subsequent semester/semesters.
2. Such of those candidates who have failed/remained absent/opt to
improve in any one or more papers (theory/practical/dissertation)
shall henceforth be called as repeaters, and shall appear/improve in
such paper/s during the two immediate successive examinations held
for that semester.
3. Examination for odd/even semester shall be conducted respectively
at the end of odd/even semester (odd with odd/even with even)
4. The candidate shall take the examination as per the syllabus and the
scheme of examination in force during the subsequent appearances.
5. Candidates seeking improvement can take the examination again
only twice, in each paper.
6. A candidate who seeks improvement has to surrender the marks card
already secured for that semester.

7. Improvement is allowed only in theory, practical and dissertation
papers. However, the marks secured in the previous attempt shall be
retained if the same is higher. There is no provision for improvement
of internal assessment marks.
8. A candidate is permitted to apply for improvement in any paper of
the particular semester within 30 days from the date of
announcement of results of the semester.
Miscellaneous
Any other issue not envisaged above, shall be resolved by the Vice
Chancellor in consultation with the appropriate Bodies of the University, and
their decision shall be final and binding.

P 205: CASE STUDY/DISSERTATION
CASE STUDY - The students are required to study and prepare case reports
for at least four different diseases at least of FOUR patients. Students should
examine and treat at least 2 patients for each of the diseases and impart yoga
therapy and document vital parameters before and after treatment. The
students should compile this in a report format and submit to the department at
end of the semester.
DISSERTATION - Each student is required to conduct a scientific
experimental study using yoga. They have to present the synopsis of the study
before commencing the same with study hypothesis, design, outcome
measures and analysis plan. After conducting the study the students should
present the study in IMRAD format (Introduction, methods, results and
discussion) with relevant bibliography/references. They should also write a
summary and abstract of the study at the beginning of the dissertation.
