Civil Engineering is a Traditional and the Oldest Engineering Discipline in the world. This branch
deals with the Analysis, Design, Construction and Maintenance of Physical and naturally built
environment such as Buildings, Roads, Canals, Dams, Bridges and other Structures.
Civil Engineering takes places on all levels- in the public sector from gram panchayat to national
level and in private sector from individual house owners to international companies.
civil engineering is defined as “the art of directing the great sources of power in nature for the use
and convenience of man, as the means of production and of traffic in states, both for external and
internal trade, as applied in the construction of roads, bridges, aqueducts, canals, river navigation
and docks for internal intercourse and exchange, and in the construction of ports, harbours,
moles, breakwaters and lighthouses, and in the art of navigation by artificial power for the purposes
of commerce, and in the construction and application of machinery, and in the drainage of cities
and towns”
Civil engineering is the application of physical and scientific principles, and its history is intricately
linked to advances in understanding of physics and mathematics throughout history. Because civil
engineering is a wide ranging profession, including several separate specialized sub-disciplines,
its history is linked to knowledge of structures, materials science, geography, geology, soils, hydrology,
environment, mechanics and other fields.
The major specializations in civil engineering are Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical
Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Municipal or Urban Engineering,
Water Resources Engineering, Materials Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Surveying, and
Construction Engineering.
Career Options
Civil engineers are employed primarily by
Government Departments, Utilities, Architectural
Firms, Builders, and Engineering Firms. There
are also career options available in Education
and Consulting. Civil engineering is far from your
average desk job. Engineers are often on the
move, working outdoors at construction sites,
sometimes in offices, and sometimes in research
labs. A variety of engineering specialties are open
to qualified graduates. They are Structural
Engineer, Transportation Engineer, Geotechnical
Engineer, Hydraulic/Hydrology/Water Resources
Engineer, Waste Water Engineer, Environmental
Engineer, Urban Planner, Town Planner, Irrigation

Electronics engineering, also known as
electronic engineering is an
engineering discipline which uses the
scientific knowledge of the behavior
and effects of electrons to develop
components, devices, systems, or
equipment (as in Electron Tubes,
Transistors, Integrated Circuits, and
Printed Circuit Boards) that uses
electricity as part of its driving force.
Both terms denote a broad engineering
field that encompasses many subfields
including those that deal with Power,
Instrumentation Engineering,
Telecommunications, Semiconductor
Circuit Design, and many others.
The major branches in electronics
engineering are Electronic engineering,
Signal Processing, Telecommunications

Computer science or computing science (sometimes
abbreviated CS) is the study of the theoretical
foundations of Information and Computation, and of
practical techniques for their implementation and
Application in Computer Systems. It is frequently
described as the systematic study of Algorithmic
Processes that Create, Describe, and transform
information. Computer science has many sub-fields;
some, such as computer graphics, emphasize the
computation of specific results, while others, such as
computational complexity theory, study the properties
of computational problems. Still others focus on the
challenges in implementing computations. For
example, programming language theory studies
approaches to describe computations, while computer
programming applies specific programming languages
to solve specific computational problems, and human-
computer interaction focuses on the challenges in
making computers and computations useful, usable,
and universally accessible to people.
The focus of computer science is more on
understanding the properties of the programs used to
implement software such as games and web-browsers,
and using that understanding to create new programs
or improve existing ones.
