No canvas or panels. Mediums include: Watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache, egg tempura. No pastels, class work, digital images, any form of print or reproductions No more than 10% collage or water-based inks, no alcohol inks or other inks. Artist's original work only. No copies or likenesses of another artist's work including published source or reference not attributable to the artist. Work must have been completed within the last two years and not previously shown in a PWS exhibit. Awards: The Best of Show award is $1,200, with over $5,000 in total cash and prize awards. Awards will be announced with the opening of the exhibit on October 1. Juror of Selection and Awards: Carla O’Connor is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society and Northwest Watercolor Society (Gold Member) and is an AWS Dolphin Fellow. She received her BFA in painting from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio. She has done additional formal study at the University of the Americas, Mexico City; University of Dayton, Ohio; and the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Carla’s work has appeared in many books and publications including: Masters of watercolor: Interviews with watercolorists, by Konstantin Sterkhov, A Fluid Tradition — Northwest Watercolor Society … The first 75 Years, Inspirations and Technical Breakthroughs: Secrets from the Contemporary International Watercolor Masters 1,Watermedia Painting with Stephen Quiller, by Stephen Quiller, Confident Color, and Exploring Color, by Nita Leland, Finding Your Visual Voice by Dakota Mitchell and Splash5 – The Glory of Color published by Northlight Books and Exploring Color by Nita Leland. Other publications include: International Artist Magazine Pratique Des Arts (France), L’Art de L’Aquarelle (France ),Watercolor Artist (US) “The Gold Standard”, The Art of Watercolour (London), American Artist Magazine, International Artist Magazine and several other national and international publications. ELIGIBILITY: Aqueous Open 2021 is the PWS Annual International exhibit open to all artist working in water-based media, member or not. As we will not be receiving actual work nor installing in a gallery, and the artist is responsible for shipping, there will not be a size limitation to the actual piece. However, sizes should be listed as “final matted size” for purchase. Enter Online by August 8, 2021. Artists may enter up to two (2) pieces for consideration, but only one piece will be accepted. Entry fee: for one or two pieces is $45 (US funds) for non-members and $30 (using a discount code) for Pittsburgh Watercolor Society members. The fee is non-refundable. You can securely pay online using PayPal, even if you do not have a PayPal account. Instructions for paying by check will be provided online. Entry is available on CaFE at www.callforentry.org • Go to www.callforentry.org • Create a free artist profile and upload your digital images (1 or 2) to your portfolio-The CaFE site will resize images uploaded to the required sizing. • Click “Apply to Calls” and search for Pittsburgh Watercolor Society Aqueous Open 2021” • Follow entry instructions, click to enter and pay securely by credit card or check. Digital Files: Images must be professional quality, showing only the painted image, and be accurate for color catalog reproduction. All files must be saved in high-quality (maximum) jpg format. The dimensions must be 1920 pixels or greater pixels

on the long side. Resolution should be at least 300 dpi and the file size must be 5 MB or less. For detailed instructions on preparing and sizing digital files, visit the PWS website: www.pittsburghwatercolorsociety.com/Digital-Entry-Help. A useful online resource for resizing images is at: www.picresize.com. Sales: All work must be for sale at current market value. Sales will be handled through PWS with an appropriate 7% sales tax added and applicable to sales completed by the end of the exhibit. The artist will receive 70% (minus sales tax) of the sale price. The artist will be responsible for shipping the painting to the buyer, so price accordingly. PWS Membership Eligibility: Artists exhibiting in Aqueous Open two years out of five become eligible for PWS membership. Members who get accepted in Aqueous Open three out of five years become Signature members. Inquiries to: [email protected]. Rights, Responsibilities and Liability: PWS has the right to refuse any work that does not meet specifications or is not accurately represented by the digital image. Sending an entry implies an agreement with all conditions set forth in this prospectus and grants the right to PWS to reproduce the work for the catalog and publicity.
