I joined PwC as an Assistant Manager. I know from my own experience that by being yourself, and bringing your passion, commitment and flexibility to all that you do, you’ll develop a rewarding and fulfilling career with us. I’m committed to ensuring our people have the opportunities they need to unlock their potential, to play to their strengths and to be themselves, so I hope you’ll consider starting your career with us.

Ian ClagueSenior Partner, PwC Isle of Man LLC

Your career is just that; yours. You choose it. You live it. You make it happen. To get the best from it, you need the best opportunities. That’s why opportunities are at the heart of a career with us. Opportunities for you to grow as an individual, to build lasting relationships and make an impact in a place where people, quality and value mean everything. And we’re proud, based on the opportunity we offer, that students have voted us the number one Graduate Employer in The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers survey for the last 14 years.

Smart, courageous people who are able to forge strong relationships make us the best at what we do: measuring, protecting and enhancing what matters most to our clients. And although the work we do will vary, the way we work will not. We make sure all our people are prepared for the challenges of the future through our global leadership framework, The PwC Professional.

We aspire to be an organisation driven by a clear purpose, where each of our people is passionate about helping to build trust in society and solve complex problems. We want to recruit people who share these values and bring them to life in the way they approach the relationships they build, the decisions they make, and the work that they do. It’s this passion for making a difference, to our clients and to each other, that we believe makes us an inspiring backdrop for your career.

We’ll be transparent about our impact on the environment and we’ll show you how PwC is about people as much as it is about numbers. Be part of something special and find out how your drive and initiative could open up new opportunities for you and our clients.

Take the opportunity of a lifetime. Join PwC.

Actuarial work is highly analytical and technical, but one of the greatest skills you need is the ability to explain this knowledge. Actuarial work is a stimulating and challenging career choice.

You’ll join our Actuarial Services department where you‘ll develop specialist skills and study for professional qualifications.

Actuaries work with uncertainty. Join us and you’ll help clients analyse how future events - anything from a corporate take-over to a major natural disaster - could affect them. You might be calculating the impact of changing demographics or legislation on pension schemes; the effects that changes in financial markets have on different organisations; or how likely a business is to be hit by an earthquake.

You’ll learn how to use complex financial and statistical theories to weigh up the risks and estimate the odds of what might happen. Just as importantly, you’ll develop a flair for presenting your findings in a simple and easy to understand language. What’s more, early client exposure will broaden your experience.

In Actuarial Services you’ll work with a wide variety of clients from a wide variety of industries. From industries in which actuaries traditionally play a role, like the life insurance, general insurance and pension industries to some non-traditional industries like the banking and healthcare sectors, the public sector, the

funds industry and legal profession. Your advice could cover solvency, reserving, economic capital, risk management, mergers and acquisitions, company restructuring and de-risking, financial modelling, underwriting, new legislation, the viability of new products and the efficiency of claims or reporting processes.

You might help analyse how clients should manage both liability and asset risks within their pension plans or you could be revising businesses’ projections and making sure they have adequate reserves. Whatever the project, you’ll make the most of your analytical skills to deliver real commercial insights. Insights that will help our clients prepare for issues you might see regularly on the news.

Advisory

Our graduate opportunitiesAdvisory

Helena

In PwC Isle of Man, we have a specific Advisory team, separate from Assurance, with the ambition to be the leading business in forensics and crisis markets. Our Advisory practice is made up of a number of business units you’d see in other PwC offices: Deals, Consulting and Technology.

We have a core team working within the Advisory practice, contributing to all services such as Business Recovery, Forensics and Transaction Services. The Group helps senior executives and managers in some of the largest and complex businesses on the island identify and manage risk, refine and enhance their performance and understand new and challenging regulation.

As part of our team, you will use analytical, technical and client facing skills to help our clients assess business operations, strengthen internal controls and improve their business and technological performance.

Your ability to identify business risks from your analysis of data, technology and business processes and to project manage, review, report and present your findings effectively to our clients will make you an invaluable member of our advisory team.

Advisory is an excellent place to study for ACA or ACCA qualifications and graduate recruits undertake training to achieve these qualifications. We also have opportunities to pursue further studies in areas such as Data Analytics, Forensics and Insolvencies.

Despite what you might hear, Tax isn’t all about numbers, forms and the end of the financial year.

Tax is a fact of life, but nobody wants to pay too much. Many businesses and large organisations have tax bills that can run into the millions. Our work here helps organisations and individuals maximise their tax efficiency.

Learn everything one of the Island’s leading tax practices can teach you. Your know-how will help companies and people decide how to manage their offices, where to set up new businesses, how to reward their people and much more. But you won’t just react to immediate needs. You’ll also use your initiative and industry insight to solve complex, long-term problems.

Our expertise covers every conceivable area of taxation. We work on projects that range from assisting local traders to restructuring multimillion-pound property portfolios, and from buying a business to advising billionaires on the management of their super yacht and executive jet.

Whether you are a new graduate or a recent school or college leaver, your initial training will give you a solid grounding in all areas of Isle of Man, UK and international tax.

Training will be a mixture of on-the-job practical experience and sponsored study towards highly regarded professional qualifications; firstly with the Association of Tax Technicians and then going on to become a Chartered Tax Advisor.

As you become more experienced, you will gradually integrate into one of three specialist teams:

In Corporate Tax you’ll help clients – from the largest organisations to budding entrepreneurs – manage the tax they pay. You’ll tackle a broad range of work that includes multinational advisory projects, tax compliance and researching business issues that affect clients’ tax affairs – all while keeping pace with regularly changing tax rules.

In Personal Tax you’ll help some of the world’s leading employers make the most of their biggest asset – their people. You’ll work on everything from international pensions to communications, employment law and employee incentives to tax compliance. You’ll also help high net-worth individuals manage the local and international tax issues resulting from a broad range of business activities and investments.

In Indirect Tax you’ll advise businesses on VAT and other indirect taxes, including the international trade issues linked to Customs and Excise Duties. It’s a highly commercial, ever-changing and extremely wide-ranging field. You could be involved in purely local activities or multi-national global projects, working on more efficient internal processes or on a merger or acquisition.

PwC are leaders in professional services and are committed to leading innovation in the industry. We are expanding our operations in technology, looking to help our organisations understand and stay ahead of digital disruption. There are opportunities for graduates to join dynamic teams at the cutting edge of innovation.

Data & analytics

In a world of Big Data and the Internet of Things, vast amounts of valuable information is available to companies. Analysis of this information and turning it into actionable insights is key to transforming businesses to increase revenue, improve processes or build better customer relationships. PwC is enabling organisations to gather, analyse and interpret data to create valuable business intelligence and drive competitive advantage.

Cybersecurity

Digital technology continues to transform and disrupt businesses, but it also exposes them to cyberthreats. Phishing, hacking, ransomware, whaling and other cyber threats cost businesses money. No organisation is safe. Cyber criminals are becoming more sophisticated. Clients are looking to experts, such as PwC to help assess, build and manage security systems and we in PwC are building a team to help them.

Digital

We live in an ‘always-on’ culture, where customer expectations are ever more sophisticated. Businesses are undergoing digital transformation to keep pace with these expectations and to stay relevant for the digital generation. PwC are helping organisations understand the digital environment and to be digitally enabled. We help them be agile, stay ahead of their competitors and delight their customers.

Our client asked us to help them with their investigations into a potential fraud that had taken place. It appeared that significant sums of money belonging to clients of the law firm (running into millions of pounds) had been stolen over a number of years. We assisted them with their investigations, in a project which lasted over 2 years. The fraudster in this case is now in prison.

PwC conducts a biennial Global Economic Crime Survey throughout the world. In 2016 we invited one of the authors of the report to the Island. We held an event at which the author and others discussed and debated the findings and themes from the 2016 survey and their relevance here on the Isle of Man. The rising threat of Cybercrime was a particularly hot topic, both in the survey and locally. To find out more and see the results of the survey visit: www.pwc.com/crimesurvey.

Partnerships are incredibly important to how we do things, so we have a strong focus on collaboration here. A great example is our alliance with Google for Work – a working relationship that enables us to deliver technology solutions that help our clients reinvent and innovate their businesses worldwide.

It’s a unique union that combines strengths from both sides. Google gives us access to a vast global network with the brainpower to solve challenging technical problems. And through us, Google can connect with a huge range of businesses in ways they never could before.

Since we began developing solutions together, we’ve transformed a wide range of businesses through technology. How many times have you seen workers digging up the same stretch of road time and time again? It might sound simple, but before we developed a bespoke web app, engineers at a major utilities company had no way of knowing who else was working in the same areas, so they weren’t able to coordinate their efforts. The app has increased efficiency, reduced disruption to the public and saved the company a lot of money.

We’ve also helped US Government departments and big retail processors to identify cyber threats that can occur almost daily and on a massive scale. With responsibility for huge volumes of sensitive and confidential data, they need to know if anyone is attempting to steal information or cause damage to their network by intercepting connections. We created a way to collect, transport and analyse these billions of connections, enabling threats to be identified, challenged and ultimately deflected.

So, by bringing together our understanding of client needs with Google’s powerful infrastructure, we can offer innovative solutions that continue to raise our profile in the world of technology. It’s an exciting collaboration to be part of – and we’re looking forward to seeing where it takes us.

This will be held at our offices. We’ll invite you in to sit a numberical skills test to ensure you have the ability to be successful in your professional qualification. Then you will attend a first interview and we’ll explore your understanding of our business and how carefully you’ve thought about your career choice, as well as how you work and communciate with others.
