Core Courses
● Students will choose between on level and PreAP classes for the core courses - English, Social Studies, Science, and Math
● If you are interested in taking PreAP courses, please review the guidelines for each class so you fully understand the expectations of that course
Mathematics PreAP
● Designed for students preparing to take Algebra I during their 8th grade year.
● In addition to 7th grade curriculum, students will also be studying Pre-Algebra, which is 8th grade curriculum.
● Maintain a set of minimum expectations and requirements to be met by students in order for them to remain enrolled.
Science PreAP● Extensive laboratory work including dissection and microscope work is used throughout
the year to facilitate the students’ understanding of the concepts presented in the course.
● Activities involve collections, and extended individual research projects.
● Mandatory component of this course is the completion of a Science Fair project.○ Students will be expected to write a research report, conduct a laboratory
experiment, record data in an accurate logbook, and write an abstract paper.○ The majority of this project will be completed at home, outside of class. ○ Failure to complete ALL aspects of the Science Fair project will result in automatic
removal from the PreAP science program.
English PreAP
● Mastery of the content of grade-level curriculum in greater depth and pace
● This class requires the analysis of additional literary works, independent reading of one or more longer selections, as well as an intensive study of vocabulary
● Maintains a set of minimum expectations and requirements to be met by students in order for them to remain enrolled
Texas History PreAP
● In-depth study and analysis of material relevant to this subject will include an understanding of the geographic influences on the development of Texas
● Maintains a set of minimum expectations and requirements to be met by students in order form them to remain enrolled.

Physical Education7th Grade students must take one credit of physical education
● Girls’ Athletics - sports available are volleyball, basketball, track and field● Boys’ Athletics - sports available are football, basketball, track and field● Cross Country ● There are tryouts for all sports and you must have a current physical on
file to participate in Athletics or Cross Country● Boys’ Physical Education● Girls’ Physical Education ● Off-campus PE is available for students who participate in an approved
sport. Information is available on MJH & District Website. (There is an application process and $25 fee per semester payable to the district)
● Off-campus Swim is also available for students who tryout

STAARAll 7th Grade students will take 3 STAAR tests - Writing, Reading, and Math
● Writing - students will be required to write a 26 line expository essay as well as answer multiple choice questions over revising and editing passages. Test will be given in March 2018
● Reading - Test will be given in May 2018
● Math - Test will be given in May 2018

For planning purposes changes need to be made by 5/5/17
Changes after 5/5/17
The window to makes changes will reopen 7/31/17 - 8/11/17.
Please e-mail or call one of the counselors during this window if you would like to make changes to electives or change a core class to PreAP. After the window closes on 8/11/17, the earliest that changes will be made is the second week of school.
FYI● Lockers are not used at MJH
● Lunches are 26 minutes long (3 lunches - determined by 5th period class)
● Passing time between classes is 4 minutes
