By Chris Goudeau The top charity knitters for 2011 were: 1st place, Wanda Gunnoe; 2nd place, Margaret Faust; and 3rd place, Katie Gerwein. Each received a $25 check from the Guild. The TKGV Board will meet this month to discuss our charity projects for the coming year. Please try to knit some items for the less fortunate. Hats are very easy to do and you can use your leftovers; select two or three colors from your leftover stash that go together and make a striped hat. In previous TKGV newsletters the simple roll top hat and the man’s stocking cap have been published. Our Charity Knit-In Day will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11, from from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Debbie Hender-son’s home. This is also a potluck luncheon. Please contact Debbie at [email protected] to sign up and get directions to her home. Please let me know of your charity knitted items via email at [email protected], or you can complete the charity sheet at our meetings. Remember to list your item, the number of items and the charity.

Thank you all for an amazing event last month with the “Knit to Fit” workshop. It was a huge success. We now know more than we might want to about shape and fit! This month we are proud to introduce some of our new spring yarns. Tahki is here with Ripple, Rosa, Rhianna and a few gorgeous friends. These yarns are sure to keep you cool while looking HOT! Our gigantic shipment of Madelinetosh has us in complete awe. The colors are so fabulous it is too wonderful to put into words. Stop by and grab some. The Merino Worsted is a treat to the touch and the eyes. We also have many copies of Connie Chang Chinchio’s “Textured Knits”; the perfect book for the new Tosh Sport. We have just ordered the book for the third time! It’s a keeper! Hey football fans! (or those who knit during football games.) The Yarn Club is having its first Superball Sale, Sunday, Feb. 5. Check the website (www.yarnclubknits.com), Facebook and Ravelry for times and details.

February Valentine’s Sale: any yarn that is MOSTLY red or pink will be 25 percent off during the entire month of February. Hope to see you soon!

Looking to squeeze some color into your knitting this year? How about orange? Pantone LLC, the global authority on color and provider of profes-sional color standards for the design industries, has declared Tangerine Tango (PANTONE® 17-1463) the color of the year for 2012. Tangerine Tango is a “spirited reddish orange” that “continues to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward,” the company said in a news release. Orange has been growing in popularity over the last few years. Fashion designers featured in the PANTONE Fashion Color Report Spring 2012, in-cluding Tommy Hilfiger, Nanette Lepore and Adrienne Vittadini, are incor-porating Tangerine Tango into their spring collections. Tangerine Tango-inspired items also are turning up on Etsy.com, including lovely orange-hued handknit scarves and headbands.

We're in full 2012 swing over here, with our newest KAL starting Feb. 2! Join us and the Thursday night rowdies in knitting Ve-ronik Avery's fabulous Oblique cardigan (free from Knitty.com). With a pattern that changes constantly, subtle shaping, aran weight

yarn and easy-to-wear raglan construction, this cardi all but knits itself without becoming boring. It's a good way to challenge your-self in the new year. The football-game-that-shall-not-be-named starts off a great year of savings as well. Look for more details about that on our Facebook and Ravelry pages, 'cause I'm not giving any more hints. (Heh.) The shelves are full of luscious colors in Berroco and Cascade yarns, with more arriving on a regular basis. We're finding these perfect to work up Andrea's Square of the Month, still going strong. She's found a neat variation on a familiar knit stitch, as well as a crochet variation we'd never seen before for February's squares. Come by and pick up the directions! Lastly, Spa Night makes its annual appearance on Feb. 25. Food, fun, and festivities are limited to the first 25 lucky ladies.
