WELCOME TO BIG SKY
Summer is finally here. Snow and skiing have taken a back seat to wildflowers and hiking trails and for those of us who live here, it’s often a welcome reprieve. It’s not that we don’t relish our days on the slopes, it’s simply that the long days of summer are likely to be one of the reasons we chose to live here in the first place.
Some would say this past winter's snowfall was less than average, but a blissfully wet spring has made up the difference. The meadows are more lush and decidedly greener and the wildflowers are popping up as spectacular as ever. The more popular hiking trails are already seeing quite a bit more traffic, but there are always a few hidden gems that will no doubt be just as deserted as in years past. As for outdoor pursuits, there truly is something for everyone from horseback riding to hiking, golf to mountain biking, rafting to zip lining. The list is endless.
Community-wide events continue to grow at a steady pace as well. This year, the two-day Professional Bull Riding event will include a third night of live music with award-winning, singer-song writer Robert Earl Keen performing on the night of August 1st. Add that to a two-day fly-fishing festival, weekly farmer’s markets, Thursday night concerts and plenty of camps for the little ones and you’ve got a summer we think you’ll look back on fondly for many years to come.

Summer has arrived in our beautiful corner of Montana, and we are excited to enjoy everything the area has to offer. Hiking, biking, fi shing, white water rafting, wildlife watching - so many things to do before the next ski season arrives!
Steady real estate activity continues in Big Sky with closing statistics in the fi rst 5 months of 2015 demonstrating similar market behavior as the fi rst 5 months of 2014. 127 properties closed from January to May of 2015 while 123 closed in the same time period of 2014. With Sellers preparing for our busy summer season, active listings have increased from 415 at the end of 2014 to 449 today. The overall gross volume of closed sales in the fi rst 5 months of 2014 exceeded that of 2015 by 12%. We expect to see a positive shift in that statistic as we enter our 3rd and 4th quarters which are historically the strongest of the year. We do anticipate that 2015 will produce a higher number of sales than we've seen in several years.

Big Sky Farmer's MarketFire Pit Park in Big Sky Town Center - Taking place every Wednesday, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm, through September 30th. Come down and enjoy the fresh bounty of local farmers.
Music in the MountainCenter Stage at Town Center Park - Music starts at 7:00 pm every Thursday night, through August 27th; enjoy the musical talents of varying artists, free of charge.
Gallatin Whitewater FestivalLava Lake Trail Head - The Gallatin Whitewater Festival is an annual event consisting of exciting kayaking and rafting competitions for river people of all ages and experience levels. Enjoy a family and spectator friendly afternoon of exciting river fun!

The Big Sky PBR was named Touring Pro Division Event of the Year in 2013 and 2014, and this summer’s event moves up a notch to the BlueDef Velocity Tour, a division that “has become the second most important bull riding tour in professional sports” behind the Built Ford Tough Series, according to the offi cial PBR website. This event will bring some of the top bull riders in the world to Big Sky.
Bozeman-based Kris Klone Band will get the
weekend of music started with a country rock concert immediately following the bull riding on Thursday. Premier Led Zeppelin tribute band Zoso takes the stage on Friday night, offering listeners the most captivating and accurate Led Zeppelin experience since the real thing.
After two days of bull riding, the August fi rst concert will feature four live acts inside the arena, with country music star Robert Earl Keen taking center stage as event headliner. The Jamie McLean band will be one of the opening acts for Keen, and additional performers will be announced in the coming weeks.
Both nights of bull riding, and also the music festival on August fi rst, are ticketed events. However, the live music acts on Thursday and Friday nights are free to attend.
Keen, the eclectic singer-songwriter with roots spanning from country to rock and folk to bluegrass, has 18 albums under his belt and was inducted into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2012.
To see Keen under the shadow of Lone
Mountain will be a major summer highlight, said Outlaw Partners CEO Eric Ladd.
“It’ll be the largest music festival to come to Big Sky since Willie Nelson,” he said, referencing the 2010 show in the community park. “[Keen] is a polished and seasoned performer.”
More than 8,000 fans are expected to attend the three-day festival, which also features a vendor village, food booths, mutton bustin’ and a charitable culture to raise money for local causes.
In addition to PBR General Admission tickets, which are fi rst-come, fi rst-served seating, PBR Golden Buckle tickets will be available, which include a private tent with food and drinks, a Calcutta auction, as well as preferred seating and access to a viewing platform above the chute gate.
A very limited number of VIP tickets will also be available for the August fi rst concert, which includes food, drinks and preferred seating in an exclusive area with a premier view of the stage on the arena fl oor.
