WHO WE ARE Purdue University Dance Marathon is the largest student Organization on Purdue’s Campus, and one of the largest student

organizations in the Midwest. Approximately 2,100 students participate in PUDM each year, with over 10,000 students directly involved in the past 5 years. This past year, PUDM celebrated its 14th marathon by raising a historic $1,125,293.19. Since our founding, PUDM has raised over 6.6 million dollars for Riley Hospital for Children, the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital located in Indianapolis. Children’s Miracle Network is an international non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness for children’s hospitals. In 2013 for the first time, PUDM raised one million dollars for CMN, joining the ranks of only 8 other dance marathons in the country. PUDM is only growing, and is expected to reach a record amount of students and community members in the coming year.

RILEY HOSPITALRiley Hospital for Children is the local Indiana Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospital. Although it is one of over 170 CMN member hospitals, Riley stands out as among the best. Riley is nationally ranked in 10 out of 10 pediatric specialties, with 5 of these specialties ranking in the top 25 in the nation. In addition, Riley is also home to many programs that are not available anywhere else in Indiana, including a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and a Pediatric Burn Unit. The hospital treats over 80% of the children in the state diagnosed with cancer, accounting for about 200 new cases each year. Children will visit Riley more than 300,000 times in 2018.

OUR BENEFICIARIESThe first $100,000 raised goes toward funding the Child Life Zone at Riley. The Child Life Zone is an integral part of the experience that a child and their family has at Riley. The aim of the Child Life Zone is to provide normalcy, comfort, and fun to children during their stay at the hospital. Child Life is what separates Riley from an “adult” hospital, and we are proud to be a part of this process.

The remainder of PUDM’s total makes up the largest annual donation to pediatric cancer research at Riley. Our fundraising has helped developed treatments that are used in hospitals across the world. This includes cutting-edge treatments in genomics, which are helping to treat a number of kids in the Lafayette community. In addition, every dollar donated to the Wells Center by PUDM and our partners accounts for 12 additional dollars in federal grant money.

100% of funds raised each year go to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Riley Children’s Foundation, the arm of giving at Riley, is a registered 501(c)3 organization, making every donation to PUDM tax deductible. In 2017 there were 14,481 unique donations made to PUDM across 49 states and 5 Canadian territories. These donations help make PUDM the largest annual donor to pediatric cancer research at Riley Hospital each year.

A partnership with PUDM is a year-long partnership. Your support helps our organization to expand, increase our outreach into the community, and offer leadership opportunities to Purdue students.

Centennial Mall has the most foot traffic on Purdue’s campus. PUDM regularly sets up tables there and distributes promotional materials. Over 10,000 students walk by this area on a daily basis.

The Miracle Maker Messenger is the newsletter distributed to all PUDM participants every week.

PUDM hosts multiple promotional weeks throughout the year. During these weeks we will have tables set up across campus, reaching almost the entire student body. These weeks also include social media takeovers, which generate thousands of impressions both on and off campus.

Day of Miracles is PUDM’s largest push day outside of the actual marathon. On this day over 1,000 students join together and fundraise over $100,000 in 24 hours. The event features booths across campus, as well as a centralized meeting space where all members gather. Last year our social media generated 76,000 impressions in this 24 hours

Grill out chill out, or GOCO for short, is an event each spring that pits Greek houses and student orgs against each other in a grilling competition. Over15 organizations and 300 people participated in 2017.

FTKolor run is a 5k color run held each spring between PUDM and Purdue Engineering Student Council. The event is attended by roughly 400 runners who enjoy color, music, food, and, of course, the race.

YEARLONG PARTNERSHIP

Main Gym: The main gym houses our main stage. This gym acts as the primary gathering place of our 2,000 participants throughout the event, where all of our members will convene for musical acts, opening and closing ceremonies, Riley stories, and other large events throughout the night. This is also the gym featured on our livestream, which is broadcast across the state and US.

Catering Gym: The gym hosts all of our meals throughout the 18 hour event. Every participant (and many guests!) will rotate through the gym more than 3 times throughout the event, spending time chatting, eating, and playing games as they reboot for the rest of the event.

Dancer Bags: At the beginning of the event, participants are given a bag to hold their belongings and to keep as a memory piece after the event. Corporate sponsors are able to place promotional materials inside these bags, which will be distributed to over 2,000 participants.

Rave: The rave is considered by many to be one of the most exciting points of the night. At the rave, all participants gather at the main stage to enjoy music and dancing. Outside of final reveal, this hour is the most captured on participant’s social media.

Riley Kid Birthday Party: Every marathon, we host the birthday party to celebrate all of the birthdays made possible by Riley Hospital. All of our families as well as several of our committees are invited to come to this party and enjoy an hour of fun and celebration.

Dancer Activities: All participants will rotate through an area set up for dancer activities throughout the night. This area includes physical games, video game stations, and other entertainment provided by our sponsors.

No one ever wants these things but these things happen every day. We are lucky to have a place like Riley Hospital For Children. We are lucky to have a place that has amazing staff. We are lucky to have a place that prides themselves on making it all about the patients. That amazing place has also led us to dance marathons. PUDM is more than a dance marathon.
