Lesson Focus and Transitions/
EXTENSIONS/Applications
(Introduction to Closure).
Introduction: Greet students. Tell students that
we are going to be taking our basketball quiz first
and then we are going to be reviewing some skills
and then playing the actual game. Ask students if
they have any questions about basketball or the
study guide from last time before we take the quiz.
Answer any questions and then tell the students
when they are finished to come and hand you their
test and at that time they will get instructions on
what to do. Tell students if they have a question to
please raise their hand. Also remind students that
they need to stay quiet after they have finished
their test. Have students spread out and hand out
the quiz and pens.
Transition: Students spread out and begin taking
their quiz.
A1: Students take the quiz. Teacher walks
perimeter watching students and answers any
questions that come up.

Transition: When students are finished with their
test they will bring it to you and you will give them
a number 1-5 and send them to the corresponding
cone. The cone will have directions for them to
begin stretching and putting on a penny. There will
also be a ball at this cone, ask the students to
please leave it alone. Teacher waits for the last
student to finish their test and then begins the set
induction.
Set Induction: How do we feel about the quiz,
raise you hand if you think you did well? Great!
Today we are going to try and have some fun by
doing some relays, review some skills, and then
play some full court basketball.
Task Presentation #1: To practice a few of the
skills we have been working on we are going to do
a relay. The first part of the relay is everyone in
your group will dribble down to the opposite
sideline with their right hand do a cross over and
then dribble back with their left hand. (Demo &
Instruct) When you get back to your line you must
high five the next person and then give them your
ball. Then you must go to the end of your line and
do 5 sit-ups and stay seated. We want to remember
while dribbling we want to keep our eyes up,
dribble with our finger pads, and have our other
arm up to protect the ball. Most importantly I need
you to cheer on your teammate as loud as you can.
CFU: What will you do when you reach the
opposite sideline? What will you do after you give
your next teammate the ball? Great! First person
up get ready to go, on my whistle we will start the
relay.
Transition: Students stand up and get ready to go.
Blow whistle to start relay.

E1: Students run in the relay practicing their
dribbling skills. Teacher walks perimeter and gives
feedback using the cues.
Transition: Students wait for each team to be
finished and further instructions.
Task Presentation #2: The next relay you will
rely on the group next to you, (First two groups,
middle two groups, and last two groups) you will
turn to them and do chest passes down and bounce
passes on the way back. You will be shuffling you
feet as you did in the defensive slides we practiced
last time. (Demo & Instruct) Chest pass you want
to call the persons name to make sure they are
ready, you want to aim for the person’s chest, and
have fully extended arms with thumbs pointed
down. With bounce pass you still want to call the
person’s name, aim ¾ of the way, have fully
extended arms, and thumbs down. When you are
sliding try not to cross your feet. Lastly, when you
get back to you line after doing your part of the
relay I want you to do 10 jumping jacks and then
have a seat. Don’t forget to cheer on your team.
CFU: What kind of pass will you be doing on the
way down? What will you do when you have
finished your part? Great! First two people get
ready to go, on my whistle we will start the relay.
Transition: Students stand up and get ready to go.
Blow whistle to start relay.
E2: Students run in the relay practicing their
dribbling skills. Teacher walks perimeter and gives

Task Presentation #3: Hopefully you all had fun
with those, got your heart rate up, and you are
ready to play! I want to review one last thing
before we start our games. Think back to our three
on three games last week where we worked on
triple threat. Can someone raise their hand and
give me the three things you can do out of triple
threat? (Dribble, Pass, Shoot) Can I have one other
person raise their hand and tell me the main
purpose of triple threat? (To protect the ball).
What we are going to do now is play as many short
three minute five on five basketball games as we
can. Team 1 is at basket 1, Team 2 is at basket 2,
Team 3 is at basket 3, Team 4 is at basket 4, and
teams 5 and 6 are over in the open area between
baskets 2 and 3 doing practice drills, there are
signs over there that tell you what to do. You will
be practicing partner shooting and assessing other
students that are shooting. When I say go you will
report to your basket and get ready to play, decide
quickly who will play where and what position.
Call your own game, you should be able to do that.
When you hear my whistle put the ball down under
the nearest basket and show me you know how to
have good sportsmanship by telling the other team
good game and rotate clockwise. Do this quickly!
(Demo) After you report to your basket the team
number that is higher take it out under your basket.
CFU: What will you quickly do when you hear my
whistle? Go!
Transition: Students move to assigned baskets
and begin playing.
E3: Students play five on five. Teacher walks
perimeter giving feedback.

better? Great! Go get dressed!
