ST. MICHAEL’S CE SCHOOL PUPIL VOICE FEEDBACK ON OUR

SCHOOL

"St. Michael’s Church of England School, established upon Christian foundations, and living out the Christian faith, is committed to providing every child with an excellent

education."

Vision

Our Vision is to: • create a secure and nurturing Christian environment which values and respects every

individual and their beliefs;

• equip children, through an innovative and broad curriculum, with confidence and skills to reach their full, God-given potential;

• partner with home, church and local community to make a positive contribution to God’s world.

All of this is achieved through our Motto: Working Together for the Good of all”

On Tuesday 22nd May 2018, representatives from the Board of Governors met with

a cross section of pupils to talk about the school. The aim was to gain a pupil perspective on what makes our Church school so special. The feedback to the

questions is outlined within this document.

What do you see as making St Michael’s different from other schools in the area?

The pupils shared the following thoughts about what makes our school different form other schools in the area: • The Field • It’s a Christian school and my family is Christian so it fits • Chance to get together with God • Songs and reflection on God and being a good Christian • Special events • Library • Our own dance teacher • Lockers • The climbing frame • Mosaics

Worship: Why is worship important and how does it help you?

The pupils shared the following thoughts about why worship is important:

• Helps my faith in God • It’s good because non-Christians may end up believing • We get to write prayers and learn about God • It’s fun • Reflection spots and places to write prayers in boxes • Helps us to understand bible stories • Prayer helps you to get closer to God • Themes for worship are interesting – at the moment it’s Pentecost

which is red • Class worships are funny but there is always a moral

You have a number of reflective areas around the school – why are these important and how does it help pupils?

The pupils shared the following thoughts about the reflective areas and how they help them: • These areas are in classrooms as well • Gives time to speak with God • I prayed there and won the prize draw • Reflect about God and how he helps us • Time to read bible stories and write prayers • Place to be quiet and relax • Big discussion on creation – if God created man why were they not

eaten by dinosaurs!!

What would you change about RE and worship within the school?

The pupils shared the following thoughts about RE and Worship in school and any changes they would make: • Class prayers are too long and so we don’t really learn them

• Would like more RE lessons and also time to reflect after the lesson has finished

• Some thought that the moral or meaning of the bible story or reading could be lost in the effort to make it fun, but others disagreed

The feedback will help the leadership and RE Faculty Team reflect and review the points raised and we will include them as discussion

points at the ‘Pupil Faith Group’ meeting.
