ELECTRIC CARGO HANDLING SYSTEM FOR HIGH ENERGY EFFICIENCY

FREQUENCY CONVERTERS FOR OPTIMUM PRESSURE AND FLOW

CO2 emissions has had more and more

global awareness in recent years, plus fuel saving and low lifetime operational costs are essential for ship owners when choosing a reliable cargo handling system. With a Wärtsilä Svanehøj deepwell cargo pump system, ship owners will ultimately get the most flexible and environmentally sound cargo handling solution present today. Wärtsilä Svanehøj electrically driven deepwell cargo pump system supports IMO´s Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and has significantly higher system efficiency than its hydraulic driven counterparts. It is also easy to install, low maintenance and offers reduced discharging noise levels. Wärtsilä has delivered electrically driven, variable speed regulated cargo systems to over 250 vessels with various cargo densities and viscosities to achieve optimal performance.

All Wärtsilä Svanehøj deepwell pumps are designed for operation with frequency converter (or other means of variable speed regulation) making the pumps particularly suitable for handling different types of cargoes within a wide range of specific gravity and viscosity. Frequency converters are delivered in a converter switchboard, fully wired and ready to be placed in the switchboard room. The converter switchboard is made with interface for remote control panel and connectivity to the Ship’s Control System (SCS). By means of the frequency converter it is possible to adjust the speed for optimum pressure and flow, resulting in considerable physical and economic energy savings, which

contribute to increasing ship owner’s return on investment. A matrix frequency converter configuration are recommended to minimize the number of frequency converters needed, and at the same time provide redundancy in the cargo frequency converter switchboard.

ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS

Wärtsilä offer two types of cargo pumps for Chemical and Product tanker operation. Both pump types have been developed through extensive research and experience within our in-house facility in Aalborg, Denmark and tested within our own 33m testing tower. The DL pumps covers capacity ranges from 30 m3/h to 500 m3/h and the CKL pump range covers a higher range of capacity from 500 m3/h, up to 1800 m3/h. The Wärtsilä Svanehøj cargo pump consists of four major sections:

ELECTRIC MOTORElectric motor in approved explosion-proof and weatherproof execution for open deck installation. Suitable for speed regulation with frequency converters.

DECK ARRANGEMENTDeck arrangement with motor stool, integrated lubricating oil header tank, upper drive shaft bearing, purging and stripping connections. As standard the discharge flange is made according to EN 1092, PN16. At request other standards, such as ANSI and JIS, are available.

PIPESTACKThe pipestack consists of a cargo pipe and an oil-filled drive shaft column with slide bearings. The oil-lubricated bearings are held in position by flexible O-rings. The transmission shaft is made of carbon steel alloy. For lengths above 8m an intermediate support to bulkhead is required.

PUMP HEADPump head with double mechanical shaft seal, stainless steel shaft and ball bearing arrangement. The shaft seal arrangement consists of a primary seal against the cargo and a secondary seal against the lubricating oil in the drive shaft column. The cofferdam between the two mechanical shaft seals has pipe connections to deck for purging. The casing wear rings are easily accessible.

HYDRAULICALLY DRIVEN PORTABLE PUMPThe hydraulically driven portable pump can be connected either to the ship’s hydraulic system or to a hydraulic power pack unit via a ring line. Easy to connect by quick couplings and maneuvering of pump by a flow regulating valve makes the handling of the portable pump swift and trouble-free.

AUTOMATIC STRIPPING SYSTEMOur automatic stripping system is an excellent way to drain off the residual liquid in oil product/chemical tankers. The system distinguishes itself by easy operation and maximum reliability due to its simple construction.
