According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2013, slips, trips and falls were

the second leading cause of nonfatal occupational injuries or illnesses involving days away from work.

OSHA’s Walking-Working Surfaces Standard (1910.22(a)) states that all workplaces should be “kept clean and orderly and in a sanitary condition.” The rule includes passageways, storerooms and service rooms. Floors should be clean and dry. Drainage should be present where “wet processes are used.”

To help prevent slip, trip and fall incidents, the Canadian Center for Occupational Health and Safety recommends the following:• Report and clean up spills and leaks.• Keep aisles and exits clear of items.• Consider installing mirrors and warning signs to help with blind spots.• Replace worn, ripped or damaged flooring.• Consider installing anti-slip flooring in areas that can’t always be cleaned.• Use drip pans and guards. PROJECT MILESTONE

SOME MIND-BOGGLING FACTS THAT GIVE A PEEK INTO THE SCALE OF THE PROJECT COMPLETED:The lab facility…

• is constructed with 52 Km of tubing & piping - which is more or less equal to the distance from Kewaunee Scientific Corporation India to the lab site near the Bengaluru International Airport;

• covers 1.2 lakh sq. ft. , which is more than the area of 13 international cricket stadiums;

• has an installation of 200 Fume hoods & Extraction hoods: if stacked one on top of the other, it would be 6 times taller than the Qutub Minar;

• has 500 lab benches, which if arranged in a straight line, would be a whopping 2 kms in length; and

• has more than 4 kms of fully-welded, powder-coated round ducting (largest size 1300 mm dia).

Kewaunee is proud to have completed a world-class project for a global petroleum Major in Bengaluru.

# HASH TAGS INNOVATION AND LATEST TRENDS IN THE MARKET AND SCIENCE WORLD

Everything about the Hyperloop — the idea, the ambition, the challenges — is big. But on Wednesday, it started small. The

Hyperloop One (formerly Hyperloop Technologies) team had been working in the Nevada desert for six months to build the first real

THE FUTURE TREND OF TRANSPORTATION #CUTTINGEDGE

THE CYLINDer on your charging cablesAll of us have a basic idea about the purpose of each wire going in and out of our computers. But a few wires seem a bit off when it comes to their appearance. They have a cylindrical bead dangling near the end. So what’s this bead doing on that wire and what purpose does it serve? Today, we are going to unravel this mystery for you.

You will find this bead not only at the end of charging cables but also on mouse, keyboard and other peripheral cables. It turns out that the lump is called a ferrite bead or, more generically, a choke. It’s a fancy name for what’s basically an electromagnetic wave-bouncer. If you open this bead, you will not find any complex circuits but only a ferrite cylinder that is magnetic in nature. It is this magnetic quality of the bead that serves the purpose.

So basically, when current passes through any cable, it generates electromagnetic interference (EMI). Your electronic gadgets also produce EMI during operation. For example, if you connect a camera to your monitor, the camera would produce interference and cause your monitor to flicker without the presence of a ferrite bead. If left unabated, EMI can wreak havoc with your computer peripherals. These ferrite chokes ensure that signals are only sent in the intended directions and no EMI is transmitted between the peripherals. The choke dampens these EMI waves by acting as an EMI blocker.

The blocking is most effective when it is near the source of the EMI, which is the

reason why you will find these ferrite beads only near the end of the cables. So, this little mystery is now solved! These tiny cyst-like beads make sure that our computer peripherals work properly and don’t cause any issues

for the computer itself.

demonstration of Elon Musk’s fantastical idea — a system for shooting passengers through steel vacuum tubes at 700 miles per hour. The Los Angeles-based start-up conducted its first public test of the technology at the site. This was performed in front of a group of government officials from around the world, investors, journalists and Hyperloop One employees. It was brief, short, fast — and tantalizing. A large aluminium sled shot along a track reaching a maximum speed of 100 miles per hour and accelerating with a g-force of 2.4, which then pushed it from zero to 60 miles per hour in 1.1 seconds. It went for about 1,000 feet before being slowed by a sandbank and coming to a full stop. It glided smoothly and quietly. In about two seconds, the test was over. The company announced that it is building a more complete system that will be ready by the end of 2016. Currently, massive steel tubes for this future Hyperloop test track lie around on the site. Once complete, the sled will fly along at 400 miles per hour, said Hyperloop One co-founder and CTO Brogan BamBrogan.

FIVE TIPS TO HANDLE STRESS LIKE A BOSSWhen was the last time you woke up in the middle of the night, tossing and turning, your brain on a continuous loop? What were you thinking about - your work, finances or relationship? There's one thing all these thoughts have in common: they all stress you out. Rebecca Howard, a psychotherapist, founder of the coaching workshop Shiny Mind, believes that transforming the way we look at stress can help us.

Stress can be a good thing. "Nothing can make you stressed," says Howard. "It's about changing your response." Here are the habits of people who are stress resilient. Read on to live a long and happy life.

1 HAVE STRONG SUPPORT NETWORKS

Numerous studies indicate social sup-port is essential for maintaining phys-ical and psychological health - even

when your natural instinct is to isolate. "People who are really resilient seek out and surround themselves by supportive people," says Howard. "When we get into an anxious place, we shut down. Resil-ient people fight the urge to isolate."

2 ASK FOR HELP

Hiding from fear makes it worse. In the book Resilience: The Science of Mastering Life's Greatest Challenges by Steven M Southwick, medic and instructor in the US Special Forces Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) school Mark Hickey believes that fear is good because it keeps him on his toes and serves as a platform for learning. Howard agrees. "A resilient person is not afraid to ask for help," she says. "They see it as a part of human experience.”

3 SEE SETBACKS AS TEMPORARY

It's tempting, when something doesn't go your way, to make it bigger than the thing itself. To not just look at it as a one-off but to let it colour your entire life. Howard urges you to avoid doing that: "When things go wrong people will say, 'Well, it's because my whole life is bad.' But resilient people look at setbacks as curve balls. They see setbacks as temporary, not fixed."

4 TAKE RESPONSIBILITY

"If you're in a stressful situation, the temptation is to treat stress as an unwelcome visitor," says Howard. "That tends to make things worse because we fight it, and we feel out of control...it's much more useful to transform stress into something positive." Howard suggests doing this by noticing your bodily responses (heart pounding, agitation, sweaty palms and dry mouth) and acknowledging that they are there to help you.

5 VISUALISE POSITIVE OUTCOMES"Visualise what you want to have happen, your outcome, and then ask yourself two questions: what can I do right now that will move me to this place? And how can I move to this outcome?" says Howard. "As you do it, your mind will move out of the past and into the future. You will come up with solutions that you might not even have thought possible." Courtesy: “The Economic Times” of 9th May 2016
