Financial Impact of July Repairs

The financial impact of the repairs listed in the August Pullenews:

Hot Water Heater ————————————– $9800

Ice Maker —————————————–—– $2510

Freezer compressor ———————–———–— $1323

East balcony gutter repair ————————— $1162

Water supply line leak —————————— $492

Sanctuary air handler —————————— $2235

2nd floor air handler motor ———————— ~$900

Improved drainage near Siler Garden exits —— ~$200

This deluge of repairs totaling approximately $18,622 will put us over budget in our building repair line item. More pointedly, it reinforces the opinion of our Building & Grounds Committee, expressed by its chair-man, Phil Letsinger, at last year’s congregational vote on the 2016 budget, that we are not budgeting realistically for our maintenance needs.

Unfortunately, there is further news. The sanctuary chiller is on its last legs and we are nursing it carefully for what we hope to be no more that another six weeks of very hot weather. It will have to be replaced next March, and my guess is that it will cost around $80,000. Replacement of these units has about a 4-6 week lead time so hustling to replace it now is not feasible.

The Finance, Building & Grounds and Development committees are in dialogue about how best to address our future repair needs. We will keep you informed as we enter the 2017 budgeting season.

Support Circle Participants Needed Are you concerned about the individuals and families who experience homelessness in a community with resources like ours? Would you like to team up with other Pullenites to sup-port someone who is eager

to find stable housing? If so, we would like to talk with you about joining a new “Support Circle” to assist an employed woman who needs housing and support as she transitions to a stable living situation and a hopeful future.

Training is provided and the experience, though not without its challenges, is life-giving to all who participate. If you are inter-ested in working with a group of Pullen people to help a woman in our community move from homelessness to a stable life, please contact Cathy Tamsberg at 828-0897, x-214 or [email protected] for more information.
