PUBLIC MASS: EMAIL REQUESTS & “INVITES”

It is so good to see everyone again as we gather at the Altar. This is a huge task to ensure best use / best fit of the two Churches seating capacity. It takes up a lot of time.

We offer a very big thank you to Administrator Holly Phillips ensuring as many as possible can gather for the Sunday Eucharist - the Day of The Lord”.

As new forms continue to come into the Office, the Church seating plans take a few days to arrange. We politely remind parishioners, specific seating requests (unless due to disability) or last minute increases to the numbers attending are difficult to accommodate and cannot be guaranteed.

In seeking to make it fair so that everyone has a chance to come to Mass, if you can be allocated with a space for the Saturday vigil or Sunday, we will seek to make contact with you on Thursday / Friday. The Office closes Friday afternoon so we can’t change ‘bookings’ after that.

Attendance. Can we respectfully ask that you remain very aware that, if you don’t use your allocated place that, you are keeping a fellow parishioner away from Mass as we can’t fit all who want to join us in each weekend? Please be considerate of the gift you have been allocated.

If you feel unwell in any way, we respectfully ask that you do not attend your allocated Mass. This will not affect your future invitations.

Face coverings. Please can we politely remind everyone to wear a facemask at all times when you are in Church. Just before the moment of receiving Our Lord at Holy Communion; remove your mask, stretch out your hands to receive the Body of Christ, consume the Sacred Host, replace your mask

Although Bishop Philip is unable to announce most of the Clergy parish moves until 2021, he has decided that from September, Fr Matthew will be going to serve the Parish of Jersey as an Assistant Priest to Cn. Dominic Golding. Unfortunately, Fr Matthew is not being replaced.

Naturally, we are very sorry to see him leave after hosting him for the last year of his training as a transitional Deacon.

MASS SCHEDULE CHANGE IN AUGUST

To enable all of our Parish Priests to have a well earned break and to not put any pressure on our retired Clergy, as of Mon 3rd August we will be using a one priest model for the celebration of Mass across the two parishes.

Sunday Mass Our Sunday Masses will be reduced as follows:

Saturday Vigil 6:30pm St Philip Howard, Fareham Sunday 9am Livestreaming on Facebook Sunday 11am St Philip Howard, Fareham Sunday 6:30pm St Margaret Mary, Park Gate.

As this will significantly reduce our capacity, over the next few weeks we will make sure to rotate parishioners to make it as fair as possible. Priority will be given to those who have not been able to attend Mass due to shielding.

Weekday Mass We will continue to have weekday Masses as a ‘first come, first served’ model. To reduce the demand for Sunday Masses, if you can attend this would be much appreciated.

Private Prayer & Adoration at Sacred Heart Church Our new times for a holy hour are:

Tuesday 4pm - 5pm Thursday 7pm - 8pm

Livestreaming on our Facebook page ‘Catholics - Fareham & Portchester’ For August our schedule will be:

Wednesday 12 Noon Friday 12 Noon Sunday 9am

This will be reviewed again in September.

“SACRED HEART HOUSE” House of Formation

From September Francis Ezeani and Yipeng John Ni, two of our new Seminarians, will undertake a year of spiritual preparation in a new programme established here in Fareham. Nathan King, a discerner, will also be joining Sacred Heart House as he discerns his vocation.

What will they be doing? The Church expects this first stage of formation ‘to provide a solid basis for the spiritual life in various ways, including acquiring an initial and overall familiarity with Christian doctrine by studying and by developing the dynamic of self-giving through experiences in the parish setting and in charitable works.’

Canon Gerard Flynn, Vocation Director writes; “Last year, three of our students spent the first months doing this in Mater Sacerdotum, the house of formation at Shrewsbury Cathedral. Lockdown led to a sudden transfer to Sacred Heart, Fareham. We are building on this experience. Other laity and clergy of the Diocese will be working with our Vocations Team to support the new men. Your prayerful help would be invaluable, please.”

We look forward to Francis, John and Nathan joining us at the start of September as they generously respond to the call of the Lord “Come, follow me”.

MASS INTENTIONS

If you would like to book any Mass Intentions please contact Fareham Parish Office. If you would like to make an offering for your intention via BACS, please could you transfer the money as soon as your intention has been booked with the following ref: Mass Int. ‘date of your Int’ as this will help with the admin greatly. Thank you.

Church capacity vs. Church attendance. Please note …

Weekday Masses at 9.30am will be ‘first come; first served’ up to our capacity. If you can come during the week to avoid the increased demand for Sunday Masses, that would be greatly appreciated. For any Sunday Mass please ONLY come to a Church if / when you are invited. Contact the Fareham Parish office to register an intent to join us so we can ensure that you invited to come on a rota basis. We will need your name, number in the household group & email / telephone no.

CHURCH STEWARDS - THANK YOU & APPEAL FOR HELP

First, can we say a big thank you to our volunteer Stewards who have enabled our Churches to open for a safe and organised celebration of Mass and Private prayer. Your time and effort cleaning and sanitising all the touch points is greatly appreciated.

Help please! The burden of safe stewarding is still falling to the few. Can you consider offering your services to join the rota, especially during the week? If we can’t recruit more stewards, we can’t keep opening safely and will have to go back to livestreaming only. If you would like to help or have any questions about the role please contact the Fareham Parish Office.
