Compact Commitment:• Districts and Colleges will work in partnership with College
Access Networks and college access providers to sponsor local efforts and events to address institutional barriers to smooth transitions to postsecondary work, including communications campaigns, College Application Support, College Goal Sunday, Discover U and What’s Next events
• Districts will allocate time in the school day and resources to deliver lessons to ensure that our students utilize the High School and Beyond Plan beginning in eighth grade and concluding at high school graduation
• Districts will provide meaningful work-based experiences so students may make connections between postsecondary training and their professional aspirations.
What is DiscoverU?DiscoverU is a week to build excitement around college and career exploration across Seattle and South King County. Students of all ages will have the opportunity to explore their futures and think about how education can help them reach their dreams. October 13-17, 2014
What will happen during DiscoverU?As part of DiscoverU, teachers, school staff and community partners will:
1. Wear college or career gear
2.Talk to students about their education or career path, what it was like and how they found their way
3.Provide fun and engaging activities to help students think about their futures
Why DiscoverU?DiscoverU is a strategy to help build a “beyond high school culture.” We want educators, students, families and the broader community to share a commitment to student success beyond high school.

Compact Commitment:We measure the impact of our work and adjust practice as needed using such tools as the High School Reports and Community College Reports.
These reports can support other commitments such as:• Implement practices to make students’ senior year of high
school count and strengthen the rigor of overall high school course taking
• Implement policies and practices allowing for multiple measures for course placement
• Implement developmental education enhancements that increase students completing college-level coursework
• Adopt and expand access to effective strategies promoting the persistence of recent high school graduates and reengaged youth

Compact Commitment:
Both Districts and Colleges will support the development and implementation of reengagement programming for opportunity youth (16-24 year olds not connected to school or work) that links and integrates high school completion with postsecondary education.

Opportunity Youth Action Plan
The focus is building a robust, coordinated, diverse system of re-engagement pathways designed to help youth and young adults reconnect to education and progress towards a college or career credential and living-wage work. Plan is organized around four goals: 1. Improve the SUPPLY of re-engagement pathways in the region2. Increase COORDINATION of re-engagement pathways in the region3. Improve the QUALITY of re-engagement pathways in the region 4. Increase AWARENESS of & ACCESS to re-engagement pathways
