Why Buy LocaL? We can strengthen our local economy by increasing public awareness of the value of shopping locally. Shoppers can visit the site www.directmedialink.com to find the latest deals offered by our local business community, but even more importantly, shopping at these businesses can create jobs in Pueblo and is an investment in our schools and overall quality of life.

Independent local businesses employ an array of supporting services, circulating money in and strengthening the local economy. They hire local architects, designers, cabinet shops, sign makers, contractors, accountants, insurance brokers, computer consultants, attorneys and advertising agencies.

Dollars spent at community-based merchants create a multiplier effect in the local economy that typically amounts to three times that of a chain. Studies have shown that for every $100 spent at a local business, an average of $68 remains in the local economy. And for every year over the past decade, 60% to 80% of all new jobs were created by small businesses.

Pueblo Link is published by Direct Media Link, Inc., a locally owned and operated, marketing and publishing company in Pueblo, CO. Our magazine (Pueblo Link), and website (directmedialink.com) are showcase platforms for local businesses and a place where Pueblo residents can find some great deals, shop at locally-owned and operated businesses that will stimulate our local economy.

By engaging the consumer through the magazine, the site, and social media in a shared commitment to build our communities’ small businesses our local economy will not only generate community wealth, it will help to build a catalyst for civic action, social diversity and ecological health — for sustainable community.

In that same vein we are committed to promoting the local talent of Pueblo and will be featuring a local photographer, artist or musician on the cover of each issue to help them gain more exposure in our community and help spread some of the beauty that abounds in Pueblo.

We will also be featuring some of our local businesses in each issue. In the summer issue we are highlighting The Rocky Mountain Vein Institute and their contribution to the community through their practice... look for their story on page 15 and their ad on page one.

Another way to find savings in Pueblo is to Text LINK to 46786 and join our VIP Mobile Media group. This is a free service as long as you have a texting plan. Text to our number and you will receive special savings from our advertisers that are only available through joining our text number. We have also added QR codes. If you have a smart phone you can take a picture of any of the QR codes and it will take you directly to the website. So if you can’t wait to get on the computer you can check the sites out while you are out shopping.

FuLL tiMe dedication. totaL exPertise. WorLd cLass Vein care. setting the standard oF Vein care at rocky Mountain Vein institute

With twenty five million Americans living with vein disease — including half of all Americans over 50 and two-thirds of women over 60 — Dr. Gordon Gibbs founded the Rocky Mountain Vein Institute in Pueblo, CO., with the goal of bringing dedicated and world class vein care to Southern Colorado. Patients no longer have to make a long drive outside the community to receive the personalized and expert care they deserve.

Dr. Gibbs serves as medical director at RMVI and he is the only physician in Southern Colorado, and one of less than 300 diplomats nationwide, who is board certified in Phlebology, the study of vein anatomy, physiology and diseases. Dr. Gibbs is

15

also board certified in vascular interventional radiology, and serves as medical director of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center in Pueblo, CO. This specialized high level of training and certification gives him the distinction of being the only comparably double board-certified physician in the area.

Dr. Gibbs received his medical degree from Loyola University in Chicago, IL. and completed his residency and fellowship at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He is also an active member in the American College of Phlebology and the Society of Interventional Radiology.

Rocky Mountain Vein Institute is the premier outpatient center for diagnosis and treatment of all aspects of venous disease, including superficial and deep vein disease, varicose and spider veins. These conditions can appear as early as the teens and often, people think it’s an untreatable condition or a necessary part of aging. But it is not — modern treatments are minimally invasive and can be life-changing.

Treatments at RMVI begin with a comprehensive ultrasound study and diagnosis at The Diagnostic Center at RMVI — an ICAVL certified vascular lab. RMVI has the latest ultrasound technology with two full time sonographers. Betty Helm, RMVI’s lead sonographer and a registered vascular technician, has done an estimated 50,000 studies in her career — an unparalled expertise.

Owners: Terry Lewis Richard Lewis

Founded: Pueblo, CO in April 2008

number One Question: “How soon will this be done?” We do a job in 1 to 3 days turnaround if we have the inventory in stock, if not, within a day or two after the inventory arrives. We order parts next day and have a large amount of inventory so we can fill most orders on the spot.

Employees Profile: Our employees will always go the extra mile to satisfy our customers. There is a full time mechanic Monday - Saturday.

Magazine of Choice: Pueblo Link

“Richard has always had a niche for working on tools, power tools and motorized equipment,” said Terry Lewis, Owner and Richard’s Father. Terry knew he had something when one day their neighbor (Mr. Hooper) had an older motorized lawn mower he wanted Richard to try and fix. Richard took the lawn mower and in no time had it running. When he took the mower back, Mr. Hooper said “go ahead and keep it, I am just going to buy a new one.” So, Richard took the mower and fixed it up and made a hot rod out of the motorized riding lawn mower.

This is when Richard knew this was what he wanted to do... make his own business and make his own money. He began working for his Father and as soon as he Graduated from County High School in 2009 he started his own little shop. The idea was to bring in Stihl and Toro products and create a retail shop. They had a small shop on Prairie that was 1,800 sq. ft. and they immediately ran out of room due to the demand in repairs of equipment and replacements. They eventually moved to new their Prairie location which is 10,000 sq. ft. and have continued their business in repairs of all types of equipment new and used. They also started working on Golf Carts for large businesses such as The State Fair, commercial and residential customers.

So, if you are in need of repairs or replacements call on A+ Outdoor Power Equipment and tell them we sent you from the Pueblo Link.

After the ultrasound, the patients have a personal consultation.A customized treatment plan is created for each person, and tailored for both medical and cosmetic vein issues.

Vein disease occurs when blood cannot easily return to your heart. This disease is usually inherited but can also develop as a result of pregnancy or a lifestyle of standing on your feet (such as nurses and teachers). You may first notice your legs feeling tired or heavy — a symptom of diminished blood flow from your legs to your heart. If ignored, the tired achy feeling can become swelling in the legs — signaling that blood is pooling in your leg veins. In addition to leg pain and swelling, the accompanying lumpy/ropey varicose veins and spider veins can develop into blood clots (thrombosis) if left untreated. Also, vein disease can develop into discoloration of the skin on your lower legs as well as leg ulcers, which are very hard to heal.

Dr. Gibbs and the RMVI team of expertly trained physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and medical assistants have a combined 30+ years of

experience treating venous disease. Because RMVI specializes in venous disease with a minimally invasive approach, the team is always working to bring the best and latest treatment technology into practice. In addition to endovenous ablation and sclerotherapy, RMVI is the first to introduce Clarivein treatments to Colorado, a cutting edge alternative to endovenous ablation treatment. All treatment options take less than an hour, and gently eliminate varicose veins with little or no pain, a quick recovery no stitches and with no scarring. There may be some mild bruising that disappears quickly.

As a special honor, Dr. Gibbs has recently been selected to serve on the Covidien national faculty for masters physician training for treatment of venous disease. RMVI is also a designated phlebology training facility, with the first physician fellow starting July 2011.

RMVI takes pride that the clinic is family owned and operated, and offers not only the latest in technology, but also a personalized and professional family touch. As they like to say, “We can help you Begin Again.”
