• There are many good publishing Web sites, but some are not appropriate. How can you tell if a particular site is appropriate?

• Writers seek out appropriate venues to publish their work. They consider their audience as well as the genre of their work.

• When submitting writing to outside publishers, writers must make sure their work meets submission criteria.

Web Publishing Protocol

• Make sure to consult with your building administrator to see that all protocols have been followed before having students publish on the Web.

• All students must have a signed Parental Consent Form to publish writing on the Web.

Alternate Publishing Forums

• Teachers could create a blog where student work could be posted. This particular method of publishing offers readers the opportunity to comment on the work of their peers.

• Teachers could create a class Web site on which to publish work. (Writing the City is an excellent site that publishes citywide, and Scholastic offers free class Web sites.)
