All are welcome to bring your Airstreams and spend a weekend, holiday or weekdays; call me anytime. We are now rapidly approaching the Region 2 Rally in Biglerville, PA. We have 16 units in the region and we need to work together to continue the momentum. Remember we are an organization of volunteers. It takes active units and participation to maintain our core values of adventure, exploration and fellowship; please become involved. After much delay, Kim is back to working on our new unit badge. Coincidently, we recently joined the Four Corners Unit as affiliate members. Their badges are two sided with the unit graphics on one side and the Wally Rondel on the other side. This may be a viable and more attractive option. We will try to have a mock up for the unit to vote on at the Region 2 meeting. I also believe the laminating method 4CU uses is much less expensive than our present system.

Debbie and Mark Hammer are hoping to arrange an Airstream night at Citi Field, Home of the NY Mets, on a weekend in May of 2020. We would be able to bring our Airstreams to Citi Field and park overnight. We would be permitted to tailgate and attend one or two weekend games. In exchange, we would agree to schedule an open house at our rigs so other Met fans would be able to see the Airstream Life Style. This can be a great publicity event for Region 2, Airstream and the general public’s interest and edification in RV adventure. This is a new and unique type of Urban Rally! We ask that all unit members interested,

please email Meg Riley, the 2nd Vice President, immediately. An event like this takes a lot of planning and Debbie will need an approximate rig count to get the ball rolling with the Mets. Please send Meg Riley a maybe, affirmative yes or definite no; Debbie and Mark need this information ASAP. Our next Rally is the July International in Doswell. Region 2 is hosting a luncheon on Monday, July 22, 2019 from 12:00 – 1:30. Tickets are available now, on line, at the Region 2 Website. Please join us for this regional event. The cost is $15 per person and the flyer is attached herein. Kim and I are looking forward to seeing you all at International in July! Until then, Safe travels! Watchung Airstream UN-Button Rally By Betty Lou Walker and Steve Tancer With eleven rigs, the Watchung unit held its first annual event at the Triple Brook Campground, in Blairstown, NJ.

This year’s popular event was hosted by Linda Ward and Andy Duncan with Co-Hosts Steve Tancer and Kimberly Sheppard. Formally known as the Un-button Rally, AKA Cinco de Mayo, this year’s rally was titled “Mardi Gras in May”. Linda coined the title from her extensive experience living, working and vacationing in New Orleans. Linda spent significant time volunteering in New Orleans with Catholic Charities after Hurricane Katrina, where she first hand lived in the post hurricane disaster, affording her a unique opportunity to absorb the Creole culture while helping the survivors of this horrific storm regain a life of normalcy. Living close to the campground, Betty Lou and Bill opted to join us for dinner Saturday night and got a little lost on their way. Betty Lou didn’t elaborate if it was a bad GPS, Bill’s driving or her directions… She said, she is often lost, but always finds her way”! Dave and Judy Cahall also came for dinner and joined us again for breakfast on Sunday. It was great to see both the Walkers and Cahalls at our first event.

Upon their arrival Saturday, Betty Lou saw everyone parked and noticed a table full of crock-pots plugged into Kim and Steve’s trailer. Cooking over the pots were Andy and Linda preparing an authentic Cajun buffet, which Andy spent a day and a half preparing. Andy cooked up two Jambalayas; one with chicken and the other with shrimp, to make Po Boy sandwiches accompanied with Rice and Beans. For dessert, Andy made delicious individual Key Lime Pies! It started to drizzle around 5:00PM and the gang all headed to the Pavilion for happy hour. Linda was already to greet the gang with traditional New Orleans Hurricane Cocktails, in festive party glasses and in keeping with the Cinco de Mayo theme, Linda, in her usual flair, decorated the tables with Mardi-Gras beads and masks. She also had full size silhouettes of New Orleans Jazz figures and set the perfect Bourbon Street motif. We were advised by the Campground a Mexican Band was arriving to entertain at 8:30 and we needed to be cleaned up for the next activity. As it turned out, the band was substituted by a DJ and the pavilion was taken over by teenagers. Howie Eldridge and Dave Morrison helped Betty Lou to her car over the large stones in the driveway and we all retired to a fire at Dave and Jane’s where we sipped Bourbon and spent a few hours in fellowship. Sunday morning Linda and Andy pulled out at 6:00AM, in order to meet the Queen Mary for a transatlantic cruise to Southampton. Steve was in charge of breakfast with the good assistance of George Kiesel. Murphy’s law took control over breakfast, but the club still functioned and everything came together. Harry Sacks went out to for coffee and brought us back three boxes of Duncan Donuts Joe. Steve screwed up and brought the wrong connector for his propane stove. Kim came to the rescue and saved the day cooking the oatmeal. Trooper George ran point on logistics and the Canadian Oatmeal Breakfast was a success! Lastly, Marion Wooding also had a mishap with some car trouble and directions on her way to Triple Brook for breakfast and unfortunately arrived after most of us had already left for home. Marion also got to see Fred and Jean for a minute, as they packed and hooked up to depart. Linda and Andy both love the people, culture, music and food of New Orleans; together they brought the flavor of Mardi Gras to our first seasonal event. Thank you from us all for a job well done!

Camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, birding…oh yeah…now that’s Airstreaming! Kathi and I have been out camping three of the last four weekends, starting with the DelMarVa, Keystone and Mid-Atlantic clubs annual Joint Maintenance Rally at the 4H Park down in Centreville, MD. What better way to start out the travel and camping season than by having a safety check done on your rig by fellow Airstreamers. The weather was not quite as good as hoped but the turnout was great as was the fun, friendship and camaraderie shared by all in the Park. Chuck Helwig and his team of volunteers made stops at many of the 20 trailers in attendance to address concerns and offer up maintenance tips as well as a few remedies. We also met up with our club friends Anders and Beverly Gyllenhaal, who have combined their interest in Airstream travel with photography and birding. Please check out their website https://flyinglessons.us/ to read of their Airstream and birding travels and to see the beautiful photographs they have taken. Anders and Beverly will be presenting a birding seminar at the International Rally in Doswell this July. I plan on attending that one! Next up was the Central Pa Opener at beautiful Lum’s Pond State Park in DE. If you missed it, you missed another great rally! The weather cooperated enough that many of the 60+ Airstreamers from the Central Pa, Keystone, Penn-Lehigh and other clubs in attendance were out enjoying the excellent facilities at Lum’s Pond. Great hiking and biking trails abound there. Several Airstreamers brought their kayaks to paddle the quiet waters of the lake. Central Pa Airstream Club President Carey Boland has announced they will be going back in 2020, so check their club website for dates and make your reservation today. Also, check out some of the pictures of the rally revolving through the header of this website. The “drone” that took the overhead shot was actually Mid-Atlantic club President Jonathan Jacob’s young son who climbed a tree to capture the moment on mom Alexandra’s cell phone! Those were two awesome joint rallies that offered something for everybody. I encourage more of our clubs to get together with joint/shared camping rallies. It is a sure-fire way to meet more people and have more fun with less work. Fun, friendship and adventure the Region 2 way. What’s not to like? This past weekend found us down at the Jersey Shore Haven Airstream Park in Dennisville, NJ. We had a beautiful three-day weekend helping a friend and fellow Watchung NJ Airstream Club member, Lea Plant, on her maiden voyage with a new 22’ Airstream Sport. JSHaven is starting to wake up for the season with its member residents just returning. The rally field was empty except for our two shiny Airstreams glistening in the South Jersey sun. A brand new Globetrotter, on its own shake down outing, pulled in on Saturday afternoon. I made it a point to go over, say hello, offer congrats on the beautiful new Airstream…and deliver a copy of the latest Blue Beret magazine and an invitation to our Region 2 Rally coming up in June. Hope to see you and the Globetrotter there, Hugh from Maryland! We hope to see you there as well. It is not too late to sign up and attend the Region 2 Rally scheduled for June 6th- 9th. Go to the Rally page on this site and register/sign up with PayPal. Or come and pay at the Rally. Either way, with close to 80 rigs committed plus entertainment, seminars, a flea market, two breakfasts and a catered dinner planned it is sure to be a blast. Come on out. Support Rune Moeller, President of the Central Maryland club, and his team of volunteers from the Ontario, Central Pa and other participating Region 2 clubs who have worked so hard on our behalf to plan and host the Rally. Kathi and I look forward to seeing you in Biglerville, PA in June and in Doswell, VA in July. Travel safe.
