Lean Management, The New Success Mantra For Apparel

Industry

The five day workshop on 'Lean manufacturing: Practices and

Implementations,' came to an end today. This workshop was organized

by India's largest vocational training network in apparel sector, Apparel Training &

Design Centre (ATDC) in collaboration with Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel

(SLITA) at ATDC-TOT (Training of Trainers) Academy, Gurgaon

The training program was inaugurated by Sri. Hari Kapoor, ATDC VC and Dr. Darlie

Koshy, DG&CEO-ATDC & IAM at ATDC-TOT (Training of Trainers) Academy,

Gurgaon. Ms. Roopali Shukla, Head, ATDC-TOT Academy, Mr. Nawaz Mustapha,

Director General, SLITA and Mr. B.L.S.P. Nishantha, Chief Technologist, SLITA, and

other senior professionals involved in Apparel Production in Delhi NCR were also

part of the workshop. Also present were the members of the recently formed

'UJJESH' apparel cluster which has been catalyzed with the help of ATDC & NPC in

their approach to create denovo clusters.

Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel (SLITA) is an internationally renowned

Training Institute and Technical Services Provider for the Textile and Apparel

Lean manufacturing is a systematic approach for identifying and eliminating waste in

operations through continuous improvement, reducing the cost of operating system

and fulfilling the customer's desire for maximum value at the lowest price. This

workshop was specifically designed to introduce the concepts of LEAN

IMPLEMENTATION and help translate theory into best practice through live case

studies, group assignment, classroom training and case study presentations.The

Training focused on topics such as Type of wastes in the industry and how to reduce

them, financial aspects of the garment industry, how to reduce cost on the RMG

Industries, Value Engineering and its way, Implementation of 5S to eliminate waste

from a work cycle. The training also included visual management exercises for

process mapping to improve efficiency and quality. Cellular manufacturing concept

was explained with videos, Value stream mapping concept was also explained for

figuring out and execution of an order form procurement of raw materials to delivery

on a single sheet of paper with proper calculation and behavioral matrix and core

process matrix for measuring the performance, efficiency and rating was explained

with videos. This training was in context of providing advance and upgraded

specialized skills to ATDC Faculty Resources especially teaching AMT Courses. Mr.

Sanjay Anand, Executive Director, Blackberry, who attended this workshop as a

trainee said, "This industry is very much optimistic to implement Lean Techniques in

practical way. We can transform the conventional mind set to the lean way, and this

will be an asset to the organization".

Dr. Darlie Koshy, DG & CEO, ATDC emphasized, "lean is only way forward for

industry life through training. It was hearting to see organizations like Blackberry's,

Pee Empro Exports Pvt. Ltd., Neetee Clothing, Modelama Exports Ltd. and others

who have already implemented lean in their factory participating in this training

program along with ATDC faculty resources with full zeal and enthusiasm. This will

also lead to generation of employment in Apparel sector."

performance is reaching 4.3 billion USD in 2014. This workshop was organized to

share our experience and expertise on lean management in apparel sector. It is one

material, energy and labour. Apparel is an important contributing sector in Indian

ATDC TOT Academy is an institution which operates as a resource centre setting

apparel sector. TOT Academy upgrades the knowledge base and skill levels of the

faculty resources to develop industry oriented approach in their pedagogy. The key

objective of the Academy is to bring about an overall systematic change in the

Apparel Industry while providing better quality trainers for industry. With this vision

this workshop was organised with Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel (SLITA)

which will provide new insights in achieving higher efficiency & productivity. The

ATDC holds first International training program on "Lean Management" in collaboration with Sri Lanka Institute of Textile & Apparel

Continuing with its training programs and workshops in the Apparel Industry, ATDC

(Apparel Training & Design Centre), India's largest vocational training network for the

apparel sector, in collaboration with Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel

(SLITA) inaugurated its first international training workshop today on "Lean

manufacturing practices and implementations."

on Lean Manufacturing practices for bringing in new inputs on enhancing

'productivity & efficiency' in apparel sector."

control costs, rein in wastes and improve productivity & efficiency. Time has come to

commit ourselves to improve competitiveness, by adopting Lean Manufacturing

The Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC), the country's largest vocational

training network for the industry, is hosting its first international training workshop for

five days. The event was inaugurated by Hari Kapoor, VC ATDC and Darlie Koshy,

DG & CEO-ATDC & IAM at ATDC-TOT (Training of Trainers) Academy, Gurgaon.

Also present on the occasion were members of the recently formed ‘Ujjesh’ apparel

cluster which has been catalyzed with the help of ATDC & NPC.

At the inaugurating Kapoor said, “I am sure both faculty resources and industry

professionals can greatly benefit from this advanced training workshop on lean

manufacturing practices for bringing in new inputs on enhancing ‘productivity &

efficiency’ in the apparel sector.”

The five-day workshop, 'Lean manufacturing practices and implementations' is

India: Lean manufacturing, the way ahead

In a move that can only aid the apparel sector tostay ahead of the curve, the Apparel

Training and Design Centre (ATDC), the country's largest vocational training network

for the industry, inaugurated its first international training workshop here.

The five-day workshop - 'Lean manufacturing practices and implementations' - is

being conducted in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel

(SLITA), and organized by the ATDC-TOT (training of trainers) academy. With the

apparel industry in Sri Lanka boasting an enviable record in achieving increased

efficiency and productivity, this tie-up will be of immense help to India's apparel

sector.

Incidentally, the ATDC-TOT academy functions as a resource centre which sets

benchmarks and quality parameters for teachers and trainers in the apparel sector,

and works towards improving both the knowledge base of and skill levels in the

faculty resources.'Lean manufacturing' describes a method whereby waste is

eliminated in the manufacturing process. As a philosophy, it aims to reduce waste,

cost and cycle time, and also promote eco-friendly practices."I am sure both faculty

resources and industry professionals can greatly benefit from this advanced training

workshop on 'lean manufacturing practices', for bringing in new inputs on enhancing

productivity in the apparel sector," said Hari Kapoor, the ATDC vice-chancellor.

ATDC organises training module on lean

manufacturing

Apparel Training & Design Centre (ATDC), India’s largest vocational apparel training

network in partnership with Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel (SLITA)

inaugurated its first international training workshop on ‘Lean manufacturing practices

and implementations’.

Alongside ATDC officials, also present on the occasion were members of the

recently formed ‘Ujjesh’ apparel cluster which has been catalysed with the help of

ATDC & NPC in their approach to create clusters.

The ATDC TOT academy is organizing this 5-day workshop from January 12-16,

2015 for 30-35 participants for the training including industry participants and 20

ATDC trainers from ATDC’s pan-India centres.The training will focus on topics such

as Goals of the Lean enterprise, Financial Aspects, Value Engineering, Process

Mapping, Standard Operations, Visual Management, 5S & its implementation, Value

Steam Mapping (VSM), Lead Time – Video on Cellular Concept and Behavioural

Metrics.

This training is in context of providing advance and upgraded specialized skills to

ATDC Faculty Resources especially teaching AMT Courses. On the occasion, Hari

Kapoor, VC of ATDC said, “I am sure both faculty resources and industry

professionals can greatly benefit from this advanced training workshop on lean

manufacturing practices for bringing in new inputs on enhancing productivity &

efficiency in apparel sector.”

Darlie Koshy, CEO at ATDC said, “Indian apparel industry needs to control costs,

rein in wastes\ and improve productivity & efficiency. Time has come to commit

ourselves to improve competitiveness, by adopting lean manufacturing practices.”

showing positive signs of recovery, the Apparel Training

and Design Centre (ATDC), the country's largest

first international training workshop. The program was

Workshop on Lean Manufacturing Practices by ATDC

Under its Training of Trainers (TOT) programme, the

Apparel Training & Design Centre (ATDC) is organising a

first of its kind advanced workshop on ‘Lean

Manufacturing Practices and Implementation’ by experts

from Sri Lanka Institute of Textiles and Apparel (SLITA) at

Juki Innovation Centre in Gurgaon from January 12.

The four-day workshop will provide new insights in achieving higher efficiency and

productivity, for which the Sri Lankan apparel industry is well-known. It will focus on

topics such as goals of the lean enterprise, financial aspects, value engineering,

process mapping, standard operations, visual management, 5 S and its

implementation, value steam mapping (VSM), lead time etc.

Textile secretary, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Panda will inaugurate the workshop.

Nominations of senior professionals involved in apparel production in Delhi/NCR

apparel industry have been invited. 12 industry personnel have already confirmed

their participation.

ATDC, which functions under the aegis of Apparel Export Promotion Council, has

emerged as India’s largest vocational training network for the apparel sector.

Lean manufacturing, the way ahead

GURGAON: In a move that can only aid the apparel sector tostay ahead of the

curve, the Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC), the country's largest

vocational training network for the industry, inaugurated its first international training

workshop here.

The five-day workshop - 'Lean manufacturing practices and implementations' - is

being conducted in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel

(SLITA), and organized by the ATDC-TOT (training of trainers) academy. With the

apparel industry in Sri Lanka boasting an enviable record in achieving increased

efficiency and productivity, this tie-up will be of immense help to India's apparel

sector.

Incidentally, the ATDC-TOT academy functions as a resource centre which sets

benchmarks and quality parameters for teachers and trainers in the apparel sector,

and works towards improving both the knowledge base of and skill levels in the

faculty resources.

'Lean manufacturing' describes a method whereby waste is eliminated in the

manufacturing process. As a philosophy, it aims to reduce waste, cost and cycle

time, and also promote eco-friendly practices.

"I am sure both faculty resources and industry professionals can greatly benefit from

this advanced training workshop on 'lean manufacturing practices', for bringing in

new inputs on enhancing productivity in the apparel sector," said Hari Kapoor, the

ATDC vice-chancellor.

ATDC TOT Academy, trains the trainers. It is an institution that operates as a

resource centre which sets benchmarks and overall quality parameters for those in

the business of skilling in the apparel sector. TOT Academy upgrade the knowledge

base and skill levels of the faculty resources to develop industry oriented approach in

their pedagogy. The key objective of the Academy is to bring about an overall

systematic change in the Apparel Industry while providing better quality trainers for

industry.

Mr. Nawaz Mustapha, Director General, SLITA said,” Sri Lanka’s government export

performance is reaching 4.3 billion USD in 2014. This workshop is being organized

to share our experience and expertise on lean management in apparel sector. It is

one of the good technique which produces product with less resources, capital, raw

material, energy and labour. Apparel is an important contributing sector in Indian

economy and this lean manufacturing technique can prove very beneficial for this

sector. This will also lead to generation of employment in Apparel sector. ”

ATDC organises workshop on lean manufacturing practices

Under its Training of Trainers (TOT) programme, the

Apparel Training & Design Centre (ATDC) is organising

a first-of-its-kind advanced workshop on ‘Lean

Manufacturing Practices and Implementation’ by

experts from Sri Lanka Institute of Textiles and Apparel (SLITA).

The four day workshop would be held at ATDC-Juki Innovation Centre in Gurgaon

from 12-16 January 2015.

The workshop will provide new insights in achieving higher efficiency and

productivity, for which the Sri Lankan apparel industry is well-known.

The training will focus on topics such as goals of the lean enterprise, financial

aspects, value engineering, process mapping, standard operations, visual

management, 5 S and its implementation, value steam mapping (VSM), lead time –

video on cellular concept , behavioural metrics and various case studies exercises.

Sanjay Kumar Panda, secretary (Textiles), Government of India, will inaugurate the

first-time workshop.

ATDC invited nominations of senior professionals involved in apparel production in

Delhi/NCR apparel industry to participate and benefit from the workshop. Already, 12

industry personnel have confirmed their participation.

The workshop will have a total of 30-35 participants, including 12-15 industry

participants and 20 ATDC trainers from ATDC’s pan-India centres.

ATDC, which functions under the aegis of Apparel Export Promotion Council, has

emerged as India’s largest vocational training network for the apparel sector with

around 175 ATDCs, including 65 ATDC vocational institutes and over 135 ATDC-

SMART centres and Skill Camps functioning in major apparel clusters spread across

22 states and 85 cities pan-India. (RKS)
