Channel Research: Public Service BroadcastI will be researching the channels of the BBC whom had provided

Public Service from the very beginning when television was available for the public and not just a tool for the army.

I will be looking into channel BBC channels: 1, 2, 3 and 4.

BBC 1 has many different target audience at different times: For example: in the early morning from 7-12 o’clock there are programmes like Cash in the Attic, Bargain Hunt, Doctors, etc.

In the afternoon it’s time for the younger children to watch as it’s after primary school time there would be cartoons like Blue Peter, Hacker Time’.

Later in the evening the programmes are more for young adults as there drama’s like EastEnders, Live at the Apollo etc.

All of these programmes leads towards entertainment not public information, expect for News times.

BBC 2 Broadcast programes which more suited for adults, for example looking at To Buy or Not to Buy it’s about designing and how to value your house, and Eggheads is a adults quiz show.

There target audience are more mature adults who have their own house and lots of free time, the target audience for our documentary are teenagers and young adults.

This isn’t a Public Broad Cast channel I would choose for our documentary on Healthy food and lifestyle.

Straight away you can tell the programs they broadcast are for teenagers and young adults for watch, for example the Junior Doctors: Your Life in Their Hands mostly watched by teenagers or young adults as their ambition is to become a doctor or a doctor in training themselves. It shows the true realistic lifestyle working at a hospital.

Like our documentary we are stating the realistic of a healthy lifestyle from students and adult perspective.

The drama series EastEnders are followed by teenagers and adults, so a wide target audience from this channel, this could be what we’re looking for.

Channel 4: The Remit The Commission will take into account: 1.Southern Iraq's internal security dynamic, and approaches to improving stability 2.The political and economic situation in Iraq 3.The role of UK troops in Iraq, and the strategic objectives of their deployment 4.The UK's wider Middle East strategy including Iran and Syria. 5.Domestic political considerations in the UK including the impact on community cohesion 6.Consequences for key strategic alliances - the transatlantic relationship, EU and the UN 7.Reconstruction and development in Iraq and the role of UK NGOs and other agencies 8.Long term support for Iraq, including budgetary, policing, social services, democracy and civil society supportIssues expressly outside the scope of the Commission and the Report include: 1.The merits and legality of the UK decision to intervene militarily in Iraq. 2.Specific allegations of war crimes by British Forces, or corruption or wrong doing by individual organisations.

BBC 4 seemingly like to talk about the past history instead of current news. Therefore I find this channel unsuitable for our documentary.

THE BBC CHANNEL I HAVE CHOSEN IS…

BBC 3 reasons being:

• Their target audience are teenagers and adults our food and lifestyle related documentary is also targeting this age range group, that is a reason why it’s suitable.

• The shows on here, for example ‘Don’t tell the Bride,’ and ‘Junior Doctors’ are all documentaries that gives information and entertainment to viewers, similar to what our product is like.

• Another key element is that they reveal real life issues, that contain all the facts and other crisis then the solution as well, hopefully our documentary would also provide such an result to the viewers.

• As for the time our documentary would air at looking at their time table I think the best time would be: 8pm as most people would be home after college, work etc. And at this time most people would like to sit down and watch a bit of television.
