PUBLIC RELATIONS & EVENT MANAGEMENT If a work environment of constant change and new challenges is your goal, then this is the course for you. While most institutions may just offer event management as a stand-alone module, at Oakfields College we believe that effective public relations plays a critical role in a successful event. This one-year Further Education and Training Certificate in Public Relations (including event management) is run by experts who have a wealth of practical experience in this industry. Many of them have their own companies and are actively involved in the industry. The course will provide you with the skills needed to become a highly regarded public relations practitioner and event manager, including an ability to work with confidence in very fluid and ever-changing environments, understanding the dynamics of working with a diverse group of people, and acquiring skills for professional conduct in any business situation. You will be introduced to the techniques that experienced and professional event organisers use and rely on such as the planning, designing, executing and managing of events and co-ordinating functions for any organisation. You will also learn how to implement a marketing strategy for an event and how to effectively lead and motivate your team. Your practical training will include organising a number of events during the year, including a fashion show and the Oakfields College annual musical festival, Oakfest, which means that you will be able to add some experience to your CV the minute you graduate. You’ll also interact with students from other courses while organising campus events, and through this you will gain valuable real-life experience of dealing with ‘clients’ and understanding their needs. The following subjects are included: Public Relations Event Management Academic Literacy Wedding Planning Professional Development Work Integrated Learning Oakfields College is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training until 31 December 2025 as a private higher education institution under the Higher Education Act, 1997.
