Where Have We Been?
February 10, 2019 A public survey developed by Guelph Public Library went live on the City of Guelph’s Baker District website (paper copies were made available in the Central Library). The survey remained open until March 11, yielding 177 responses. This feedback was absorbed into the building program and is guiding the design process.
Feb. 25 & 26, 2019 Over 30 Community Groups and Organizations were invited to meet with the Invizij / HMBA / MBTW library consultant team at the Central Library. 41 individuals representing over 31 local groups participated in person or with email comments. Public input was absorbed into the building program and is guiding the design process.

What Have We Heard?
What We Heard: Create a Community LandmarkHow We Responded: The architectural massing celebrates a welcoming entrance by proposing a graceful gesture framing a new public plaza and giving address to a new Northern Gateway to downtown Guelph. What We Heard: Celebrate History with ArchivesHow We Responded: Guelph Public Library’s significant Archive Collection is given prominence on the fourth floor with views looking over the entire downtown core, a crowning jewel of the GPL Collection. What We Heard: Create Accessible, Flexible, Community-Supportive SpacesHow We Responded: Significant, publicly accessible, meeting and event rooms are distributed throughout the library, with most still publicly accessible after standard library hours. What We Heard: Incorporate Places for Visual ArtHow We Responded: The new public square presents tremendous opportunity for engaged, iconic public art. What We Heard: Close the Technology GapHow We Responded: Future proof maker spaces, digital recording studios and wifi connections throughout will afford significant growth in publicly available technology.

What Do We Need to Hear?
Does the library’s spatial layout provide the types of services you expect from a central library? Does the urban square provide the types of experiences you expect from a civic space? Do the preliminary sustainability strategies reflect your green goals and ambitions for Baker District?
Please see the panels located in the lobby area and provide a response!
